Chapter 122: Abolition
The first-floor lobby of the Myriad Laws Supernatural Department was quiet and orderly.
At least, it had been.
"Ever since that White Fox guy became Director of the Myriad Laws Supernatural Department, he's gotten so full of himself."
Dairenji Suzuka stood near the reception area with her arms folded, her face full of open dissatisfaction.
"To see him now, you actually need prior notice and an appointment. What a pain."
Clack, clack, clack.
Her small black leather boots tapped impatiently against the marble floor, the sharp sound echoing through the spacious lobby. On the wall not far away, a long banner reading Keep Quiet hung with particular irony.
The reception staff pretended not to hear.
One lowered her head to organize documents. Another began typing with unnecessary focus. A third suddenly discovered that the flower arrangement on the desk required intense professional inspection.
No one dared step forward to remind her.
After all, this girl who looked barely old enough to be in middle school had an identity terrifying enough to make every ordinary employee in the building cautious.
Dairenji Suzuka.
One of the Twelve Divine Generals of the Omnyo Agency.
The Child Prodigy.
A genuine National Level Onmyoji.
Within the entire Myriad Laws Supernatural Department, the only person who could confidently stand above her was probably their Director.
Trying to correct her manners now would not be bravery.
It would be volunteering for disaster.
Just then, the automatic doors opened again.
A girl who looked around Suzuka's age walked into the lobby, holding a long sword.
"Excuse me," a receptionist immediately stepped forward with a polite smile. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Although the reception staff were ordinary people without Spirit Insight Power and could not step onto the path of Onmyōdō, they had developed sharp eyes after working here.
They could usually tell at a glance whether the person before them was an ordinary visitor or an Onmyoji.
This girl, for example, clearly belonged to the latter.
The long sword in her hand could have been dismissed as decoration or some strange performance prop, but the faint, mysterious aura clinging to her body from long-term Onmyōdō cultivation was not something an ordinary person could imitate.
Suzuka glanced over.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
She's from the Tsuchimiya family.
"I have an appointment to see Lord White Fox," the girl said simply.
"Please wait here for a moment. I'll report your arrival immediately."
The receptionist's smile became even more respectful.
"Thank you for the trouble."
Tsuchimiya Kagura gave a small bow.
The receptionist guided her to a nearby sofa before hurrying away to report.
Suzuka, who had been waiting nearby, watched Kagura for a few seconds before finally speaking.
"You're the new head of the Tsuchimiya family, Tsuchimiya Kagura, right?"
As the distance between them shortened, Suzuka could sense it even more clearly.
Inside this girl's body was sealed an extremely powerful and ferocious spirit beast.
It should be Hakuei, the spirit beast passed down through generations of the Tsuchimiya family.
And the ominous jewel set into her earring was almost certainly the legendary sesshōseki.
Kagura turned toward her and bowed politely.
"Hello, Lady Suzuka."
"As the head of the Tsuchimiya family, you don't need to use honorifics with me."
Suzuka waved a hand.
"Just call me Suzuka."
Strictly speaking, she herself was also the head of the Dairenji family.
Unfortunately, whenever that thought surfaced, it inevitably brought along everything connected to her family.
And that still hurt every time she remembered it.
