Chapter 62 - CHAPTER 62: REFUSAL PROTOCOL

The room stayed still after AZEL spoke.

No one moved immediately.

Not because they were calm—

but because movement now had consequences.

Kelvin

Kelvin stared at the message hovering on his phone.

SELECT YOUR STABLE IDENTITY

His hand tightened slightly.

"…No," he said quietly.

System reaction

For a moment—

nothing happened.

Then the system responded:

REFUSAL DETECTED

Kelvin's breathing slowed.

"…So what?"

A pause.

Then the system added:

NEUTRALITY BREACH CONFIRMED

Kael

Kael stepped forward slightly.

His voice was calm, but firmer now.

"You are violating structural requirement."

Kelvin turned to him.

"…I'm not choosing which part of me gets erased."

Kael replied immediately:

"Then you are choosing collapse."

Silence.

Nancy

Nancy's expression tightened.

"…This is worse than I expected," she muttered.

Kelvin looked at her.

"What happens if I refuse completely?"

Nancy hesitated.

Then answered:

"…The system chooses for you."

Keira

Keira suddenly clutched her head.

"…Something is changing," she whispered.

Kelvin turned sharply.

"Keira?"

She struggled to speak.

"It feels like I'm… losing definition."

System escalation

The phone screen flickered violently:

AUTOMATIC RESOLUTION INITIATED

Kelvin stepped back.

"…No."

Kael realization

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

"It is beginning forced separation."

Kelvin froze.

"What does that mean?"

Kael answered:

"Independent stabilization without consent."

Reality shift begins

The corridor around them flickered.

Not visual distortion anymore.

But structural displacement.

Walls felt like they were slightly out of alignment.

Keira staggered backward.

Nancy grabbed the wall instinctively.

AZEL responds directly

Then—

the presence returned.

Stronger than before.

"YOU DECLINED STRUCTURAL ORDER."

Kelvin clenched his fists.

"…I said no."

The system responded:

"THEN ORDER WILL BE RESTORED WITHOUT YOU."

Kelvin shock

"…What are you talking about?"

Kael answered quietly:

"It will remove instability by force."

Kelvin turned to him.

"That's me, right?"

Kael paused.

Then:

"That is all of you."

Silence.

First separation effect begins

Keira suddenly froze completely.

Not pain.

Not collapse.

Just stillness.

"…I can't feel… one direction anymore," she whispered.

Kelvin stepped forward.

"What does that mean?"

She looked at him slowly.

"It feels like I'm being divided while standing still."

Nancy warning

Nancy's voice dropped.

"…It started."

Kelvin turned sharply.

"What started?"

Nancy answered:

"…Forced identity partition."

Final moment

The system message changed one last time:

AZEL OVERRIDE: ACTIVE

The air in the room tightened.

Kael stood still.

Keira trembled slightly.

Nancy braced herself.

And Kelvin whispered:

"…I didn't agree to this."

The system responded simply:

"CONSENT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR STABILITY."
