Chapter 1 - “The Moon That Chose Her”

In a small village hidden between misty hills, there lived a quiet girl named Elira. She was known for her soft eyes and the strange way she would stare at the sky—as if she was waiting for something… or someone.

Every night, when the world fell asleep, Elira would walk to the edge of the forest where the silver light of the moon touched the ground. The villagers said that forest was enchanted, but Elira never felt afraid there. In fact, it felt like home.

One night, as the moon glowed brighter than ever, something unusual happened.

A boy appeared beneath the moonlight.

His hair shimmered like stardust, and his eyes held the calm of the night sky. Elira froze, her heart racing.

"Who… are you?" she whispered.

He smiled gently. "I've been watching you for a long time. You're the only one who looks at the moon like it's alive."

Elira frowned slightly. "Because it feels like it is."

The boy stepped closer, the silver light wrapping around him like a secret. "That's because it is… and I am part of it."

His name was Kael—a guardian of the moon, bound to the sky but allowed to step on earth only when someone truly believed in its magic.

From that night on, they met every evening.

They talked about dreams, fears, and worlds beyond imagination. Kael showed her how stars whispered stories, and Elira showed him how humans felt love, pain, and hope.

Days turned into weeks, and something unspoken grew between them.

But one night, Kael's smile faded.

"I can't stay much longer," he said quietly.

Elira's chest tightened. "Why?"

"The moon chose you… and now it's taking me back. I was only allowed to come because of your belief. But if I stay, I'll fade forever."

Tears filled her eyes. "Then don't go."

Kael reached out, gently holding her hand. "If I stay, I won't be me anymore."

Silence filled the forest.

Elira looked up at the moon, then back at him. "Then promise me… every time I look at the sky, you'll be there."

He smiled, softer this time. "Always."

As the moonlight grew brighter, Kael slowly disappeared, turning into glowing fragments of light that rose into the sky.

Elira stood there, alone—but not empty.

From that night on, she never felt lonely again.

Because every time she looked up at the moon… it shone just a little brighter for her.

Years passed, but Elira never stopped visiting the forest.

Even as seasons changed and people around her moved on with their lives, she remained the same—quiet, distant, and always drawn to the moon.

They called her a dreamer.

Some even called her foolish.

But Elira didn't mind.

Because every night, when the world fell silent and the moon rose high in the sky, she felt it—that same gentle presence, watching over her.

And sometimes… the moon would glow just a little brighter.

As if it was answering her.

One night, on the anniversary of the day Kael disappeared, Elira returned to the exact same spot in the forest.

The air felt different.

Still… yet filled with something familiar.

Her heart began to race.

"Kael…?" she whispered softly.

At first, nothing happened.

The wind moved through the trees, and the silence stretched on.

But then—

The moonlight shifted.

A faint shimmer appeared in front of her, just like that night years ago. It grew brighter, stronger… until a figure slowly took shape.

Elira's breath caught.

It was him.

But something was different.

Kael stood there, just like before—yet not entirely the same. His glow was softer, his form more human, as if the sky had let go of him just a little.

"Elira," he said, his voice filled with something deeper than before.

Tears filled her eyes instantly. "You came back…"

Kael stepped closer, his gaze never leaving hers.

"I never left," he said. "I was always there… watching, waiting."

"Then why now?" she asked, her voice trembling.

He smiled faintly.

"Because you didn't stop believing."

The world seemed to pause around them.

"For years," Kael continued, "you looked at the sky as if I was still there. Your faith… it changed something. Even the moon couldn't ignore it forever."

Elira felt her heart beating faster. "Does that mean… you can stay now?"

For a moment, Kael didn't answer.

Then he gently took her hand—this time, his touch felt warmer, more real than before.

"I can stay… but not as I was," he said. "I'm no longer just a guardian of the moon."

"Then what are you?"

He looked at her, his eyes softer than ever.

"Someone who chose you… just as the moon did."

A quiet breeze passed through the forest, carrying a feeling of something new—something beginning.

Elira smiled through her tears.

And for the first time, she didn't have to look up at the sky to find him.

Because he was right there.
