My breath shuddered as I exhaled deeply blaming my mother for cursing me with anxiety. I was supposed to be some super powerful witch, which I am, but the idea of being in a crowded room with a bunch of people I don't know... No thanks, my claustrophobia and social anxiety would eat me alive.
But here I am, in a car which is stopping outside of the Mikaelson mansion which has hundreds of people inside. My anxiety and overthinking began to taunt me as I got out of my car, thanking the valet who took my keys.
I swallowed deeply as I tried to overpower the negative thoughts promising myself it would be better once I was inside...
With hundreds of strangers
And thousand year old vampires
And the original witch
And some other random supernaturals
And whatever problem the Salavtore's next throw at me
Wow, that helped so much, note the sarcasm.
I scoffed at the conversation my mind was having with itself. By the time I finished my mental debate of whether to go home or not I was already at the door ready to enter.
FUCK.
After a quick deep breath I just walked through the door, faking my confidence, limiting the time I had to overthink. Once I entered my eyes scanned the room, passing over some familiar faces, most importantly the two Salvatore's who were approaching me.
DAMN IT
"Lover boys" I nodded at them as a form of greeting.
"Girl who we specifically told not to be here" Stefan practically hissed at me.
"Now, now brother. Let's keep in mind that she could easily cause both of us an unimaginably slow and painful death" Damon said in an attempt to get his brother to back off.
Unknown to them, there were more eyes than they realised.

As I was walking around the ball room of my mansion, attempting to pass the time as I waited for Caroline to arrive, I felt myself drawn to the door of the mansion. I dismissed the thought as it was probably one of my supernatural senses picking up the arrival of guests. As soon as I went to turn away from the entrance, my eyes landed on the Salvatores, more importantly the girl with the Salvatores...
My mate
She had dark brown hair with olive skin which both complimented her deep hazel eyes. A dark red dress hugged her perfect figure as she stood at around 5'8" but it was hard to tell due to the heels she was wearing. I instantly responded to the discovery by trying to pass by the guests to reach her but was beaten by...
Kol pov
As I made small talk with some of guests I rolled my eyes at the sight of the Salvatore's heading towards a woman who had just entered the ball. From what my brothers had told me Damon and Stefan were both in love with the same girl, a doppelganger. However, the woman who the Salvatores were approaching was no doppelganger, she was my mate.
After my eyes travelled up her body for the third time I made my way over to her.

"Remember how we told you to avoid the Mikaelsons, well walking straight into their foyer isn't quite the way to do it" Damon remarked as he went to guide me back out the door.
"Damon, it's fine unlike Elena, who might I add just walked into the Mikaelson's foyer as well" I said gesturing to the doppelganger who just walked through the entrance, "I can protect myself."
When Stefan went to great Elena I turned away from Damon, only to be met with a man who had scruffy brown hair and dark brown eyes. My breath hitched in my throat, I would be lying if I said I wasn't attracted to him.
The man then bent down taking my hand in his own, placing a kiss on the back of my hand all whilst keeping eye contact with me.
HOLY SHIT
Strangers should not be able to turn me on this much
After I realised I stopped breathing, the man said, "I don't believe we've met, Kol Mikaelson." As I started breathing again I processed what he said... Mikaelson
Where have I heard that befo-
Oh those are the people I'm supposed to be avoiding.
DAMN IT.
After deciding Damon and Stefan were right and that I should probably avoid the Mikaelsons I replied, "I didn't ask".
He chuckled lightly and asked, "What's your name, darling?"
HIS ACCENT <3
Damn it Lexi you are supposed to be avoiding these people.
"Nothing you'll get the pleasure of knowing" I stated trying to get him to back off, generally I would be a lot nicer to hot strangers who are flirting with me but Damon was quite literally right behind me and had told me multiple times to avoid him. These middle school comebacks would hopefuly keep Kol off whilst Damon was around .
"Ah I like pretty little things with sharp tongues" Kol said, "but let's try that again shall we?"
"She has a boyfriend, champ" Damon remarked from behind me clearly unamused by the Originals interest in me, "take a hint and get in line".
I don't have a boyfriend...
Unless Damon thinks h-
No, he's my best friend...
I think, unles-
WE ARE JUST FRIENDS
"Damon Salvatore" Damon said, holding out his hand to Kol who glanced at Damon's hand before shaking it "Have we met?" Damon questioned.
"I have met a lot of people, and you don't particularly stand out" Kol said I lowered my head lightly to hold back my laughter as Kol was clearly mad at Damon for interrupting us.
The two continued to stare at each other dead in the eyes, clearly doing some vampire pissing contest. "As fun as this meeting was, I'm going to go now" I said interrupting their competition. The two each glanced at me whilst dropping their hands.
I walked away before either of them had the chance to say anything.
This was going to be a long night.

Lexi POV
As I walked around I noticed everyone was drinking some form of alcohol and I almost vomited at the thought. As much as I knew that one could drown their sorrows in alcohol I refused to turn out like my mother, or have another accident like her or my father.
Memories flooded my mind again as I then felt my heart rate quicken as well as my breathing. As I began to feel the sensation of my throat closing I knew this was the beginning of a panic attack. As I moved to find a space away from everyone I was only met with more of a crowd. Eventually as tears began prodding at my eyes I found my way out of the crowd and into what appear to be a study of office of some kind.
I clenched my eyes closed, taking deep breaths and began shaking out my hands and wrists. Every memory of what therapists had told me to do in times like this seemed to disappear from my mind.
Right as I was about to give in to the panic attack and let the dark thoughts consume me. I heard the door open and someone enter. 'Damn it', I mouthed as I pulled myself together, prepared to greet the stranger. As there was no physical evidence of my panic attack I decided to face the stranger.
As I began to turn around I heard the voice of a man, again with a hot accent, say, "Pardon me for the intrusion but I couldn't help but notice your rather swift exit from the party. I was just wondering if you were okay?"
"Um- yeah sorry for the worry, I'm fine now though" I said. The stranger then hesitated before turning to leave. Before I realised what I was doing, I said, "Wait." I then racked my brain for anything to keep talking to this man since he seemed to provide me with comfort in my panicked state. I then asked him, "What's your name?" Basic I know but I was lacking creativity.
"Elijah" he said, his accent being heard clearly. "What is your name, Elskan?"
OH MY GOD
THATS THE HOTTEST PET NAME
I really need to stop letting strangers turn me on
"I'm Lexi" I said confidently, my eyes drifted from his as I processed just how good looking this 'Elijah' was. "Do you want to stay in here for a minute with me? You know to escape the craziness outside" my voice slowly becoming more quiet towards the end as I lost confidence in his interest in me.
"I can't think of anything I would want more" he stated, a grin playing on his lips as he finished speaking. My heart beat quickened at the sight, the sensation of butterflies filled my abdomen. "Come on" he said as he guided me to a black leather couch which was positioned in the corner of the room.
His hand hovered over my back until we reached the couch. When we sat down he began asking me questions about myself, simple questions which were mainly small talk but it was comfortable considering the panic attack I almost experienced before he followed me in here. Every question he asked me, I returned.
After a few minutes his arm was placed around my shoulder I was convinced this was straight out of a romance novel. The questions he asked began to become more deep as our conversation progressed. When he asked me about who my parents were, since he didn't recognise my last name as anyone in Mystic Falls, I shifted in my seat awkwardly. My discomfort became visible which he picked up on quickly.
If you haven't noticed already I don't like talking about my parents.
"It's okay you don't have to answer that" he said causing me to relax slightly, "for a less serious question, how old are you?"
I smiled lightly at how much of a gentleman he was. "I just turned 18" I stated his eyes then travelled down from my eyes to my lips, causing me to smile more.
NO KISSING STRANGERS LEXI
"How old are you?" I asked quickly to remove the tension which began to form. When I asked him that question his eyes left my face and drifted to the floor.
"26" he said.
Why did that take him so long to answer?
Did Elijah think he was too old for me?
Elijah
ELIJAH
Elijah the original vampire who I am supposed to be avoiding
Elijah fucking Mikaelson
"What's your last name?" I asked him quickly. He furrowed his eyebrows lightly at the randomness of my question. A sense of realisation then crossed his face as he knew I knew about the supernatural.
"Elsk-" Elijah started.
"No, Elijah tell me your last name." I said as I stood from the lounge.
His tongue crossed over his lower lip he stood with me. "Mikaelson" he said, quieter than he normally spoke but I could still hear him.
"Damn it" I muttered under my breath. I instantly moved towards the door.
HOW DID I NOT MAKE THE CONNECTION?
I rolled my eyes at my own stupidity as Elijah followed me out of the room.
My eyes scanned the room but eventually landed on Stefan who was standing alone drinking his problems away. Some where on my walk to Stefan Elijah must have stopped following me.
"What did Elena do this time to break Edward Cullen's no humanity heart?" I said as I approached him. He snorted lightly my question.
"Ask Damon" he deadpanned taking another swig from his drink.
"Ah, the brother's love triangle, surely you guys should have learnt from the first doppelganger" I said glancing over the people in the room to locate the doppelganger. Just as I began to look a voice began an announcement from the stairwell.
When I looked to see who was speaking I made direct eye contact with Elijah. He announced that there was going to be dance in the ballroom. Once he finished his announcement I watched him leave the stairs and move towards me. I then turned to Stefan.
"Want to dance with me?" I asked eager to avoid the awkward conversation that awaited me with Elijah
"I don't dance" he replied drinking even more from his glass.
"Okay song from high school musical two" I stated, "have fun watching your girlfriend and brother dance whilst you stand on the side-lines" I continued noticing Elena and Damon moving towards the ballroom.
As I walked away I felt a hand being placed on the small of my back and then heard Stefan say, "Maybe I will take you up on that offer after all".
~~~~~
As Stefan and I aligned with the other dancers he asked me: "Why didn't you just leave me at the bar?"
"It was depressing watching you in your broody moody mode" I replied as we began to dance, "and I thought dancing could be a fun distraction from the Salvatore X Doppelganger love triangle"
Stefan let out a breathy chuckle before he said, "You know, you remind me of someone I used to know, my best friend"
I feigned shock before saying, "Stefan Salvatore had a friend!" He chuckled at my expression. "Well, tell me about her, was she cool?"
"Very, but your cooler" I smiled at the last part of his sentence before he continued, "She could always get me out of a slump, you know? Lift my spirits. She also loved dancing" I laughed at Stefan's tone regarding her love for dancing.
"Good luck" I said quickly noticing the confusion on Stefan's face as we switched partners, Elena landing in his arms, I ended up in the arm of a brunette.
The same brunette as earlier
Kol
I mentally rolled my eyes at his flirtatious expression. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot earlier" he started, "I'm Kol" he paused momentarily clearly expecting me to respond, "and you are..." He continued.
I contemplated giving him another sassy remark but knowing that Damon and possibly Stefan were listening I decided to play along in order to taunt the brothers. "Lexi, Lexi Carter if you must". Kol smiled at my compliance.
"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl" I stayed quiet not sure how to respond. "You are quite the talented dancer I see".
"Well, I try. Unlike you of course, who lived through when waltzing in a ballroom was a usual practice" He chuckled at my response. "But I suppose your dancing talents must come with old age".
"You wound me, Lexi" just as he finished speaking there was another change in partners except this time I exited the dance floor, deciding it was best to follow up on the reason I actually came to this ball
Esther
After making my way up the stairs I know found myself wandering into different rooms. Just as I was about to turn into another room I found myself walking face first into a wall...
Or better still a wall of abs.
As soon as I felt myself make contact with this mystery person I instantly apologized before making eye contact with them. He was a tall man who had straight dark hair which had clearly been slicked back. His hazel eyes darkened noticeably when we made eye contact with an emotion I couldn't read.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" I said. As I went to walk past him I felt a hand wrap around my wrist and pull me backwards. I stumbled lightly over my heels falling yet again into the strangers chest.
I felt his other hand cup my face, his thumb positioned under my jaw, tilting my face up to meet his eyes. In any other situation I would've freaked out but I found a strange feeling of comfort in his presence. "It's you" he said whilst keep direct eye contact with me. My heart fluttered at his words.
HOW MANY HOT GUYS WITH ACCENTS AM I GOING TO RUN INTO TODAY?
Once I was snapped out of my trance I finally processed his words and furrowed my brows not entirely understanding what he meant. My confusion removed him from his trance as he removed his hands and said, "Finn Mikaelson". He then grabbed my hand and placed a kiss on the back of it.
ANOTHER FUCKING MIKA-
"Lexi Carter" I said.
Damn, guys really need to start kissing hands more that shit is hot.
"Um- Finn" I said deciding to stick with the reason I was originally here. His eyes light up at my use of his name.
"Yes, angel" he replied.
"Do you know where your mother is, by any chance?" I noticed him then trying to hide the frown that formed on his face at my question.
"Yes, would you like me to take you to her?" He asked.
"Oh yeah thanks" I said as we began walking, "She just invited me to this whole thing and she said that she wanted to speak with me".
"Ah yes my mother did mention requesting to speak with some of the guests tonight. I didn't quite imagine any of them being as lovely as you though". I was instantly flustered at his words, I hadn't imagined he would be so frank. "My apologises was that too straight forward" he said, concern clear on his face.
"No it really wasn't" I said, a smile breaking out on my face at how cute his reaction was, "I just didn't imagine that the first thing you would do after being in a coffin for 900 years would be flirting".
"So you know about the supernatural?" he said picking up on my coffin reference. I nodded in response. When we stopped outside of one of the many rooms, he turned to me and said, "To be clear the first thing I did after leaving that coffin wasn't flirting with you, it was planning this ball where I then met and flirted with you".
I lowered my head to hide the smile that formed on my face. Just as I did so the door opened, revealing a blonde woman who appeared to be in her mid 50's. She then greeted Finn with a nod before turning to me and saying, "Alexandra, thank you for coming." She then moved to the corner of the doorway so I could enter, "Please, join me."
I tensed at the use of my full name, only my mother ever used it. Finn then leaned in to me and placed a kiss on my cheek, "It was a pleasure meeting you Lexi" he said before walking away without giving me time to respond. A look of realisation crossed of Esther's features, her expression displayed her nervousness before she seemingly brushed it away and turned to me.
"Please, do come in" she said stepping out of the doorway.
~~~~~
After entering the room a familiar scent hit my nose.
Burnt sage
She was doing a privacy spell, why?
"Relax child, it's only sage. I wouldn't want any prying ears to overhear our conversation" she said before gesturing for me to take a seat on the lounge opposite the one she had just sat on. Once I sat down Esther continued speaking: "Would you like some tea?" Esther said referring to the pot she was currently using to pour herself a cup.
"I'll pass" I said coldly not wanting to drag out this interaction any more than needed. Whilst she was distracted with her cup I took the opportunity to cast a quick spell to lit one of the unlit candles in the room to ensure there were no spells used to block my magic.
Esther picking up on my cold demeanour and decided to continue quickly. "It is strange seeing my family together again. As one you know?" she paused looking up from the table to me I nodded for her to continue wanting to hear her full explanation. "After a thousand years on the other side watching Niklaus dagger and undagger his siblings I didn't ever think I would see my family together as one again".
"I can't imagine what that must have been like for you" I said faking empathy hoping that it would stop her from avadakadabra-ing me, if that's what she planned to do.
"I watched each of my children torture and kill thousands of innocents each. Even Elijah with his claim to nobility. Even Finn who only spent a century on this earth before being put in a box by his own brother" she said.
She wants to kill all of them'
I stopped my realisation from phasing my expression.
"Alexandra" she started, again I tensed at my full name, "I love my family but they are monsters. I have spent the past millennium on the other side feeling the pain of each innocent victim and regretting my decision to make them immortal".
This bitch wants me to kill them
For Fuc-
"Finally Ayana and her ancestors have granted me the power to come back and undo the evil I have created. They only brought me back now as now there is a witch powerful enough to kill all of my children, to undo the spell I did a thousand years ago, to rid the world of vampires for ever"
I swear to god there is no way she is dumb enough to think I'm actually going to help her
"Once I am able to link all of my children together, I would like you to be the one to perform the second part of the spell, the part which will kill my children".
"Why don't you want do it?" I question, skeptical of her actions.
"I don't have access to that much power, I would have to channel a more powerful bloodline but I figured that if you performed the spell yourself it would prevent any possible... Inconveniences." she said.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I question
if she doesn't stop speaking in riddles I swea-
"I would have to channel a bloodline with two living members but also a bloodline powerful enough to complete the spell. Since your father passed I would need to use the Bennett bloodline and it seems unnecessary to acquire two people when I could use one, don't you agree?" she said smiling at me.
I scoff at her proposal, "Thanks for the offer and all, but I personally like to use my magic for non-murderous activities" I say before replicating her creepy ass smile as I finish speaking.
She then inhales sharply, "Well that is completely understandable." We then both stand and move towards the door. "It was nice to finally meet you Alexandra, I hope to see you again under better circumstances" she said before opening the door for me.
"Same here" I reply before exiting the room, I then walk past Finn and Elena making there way towards the same room I was just in. I then let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. "I hate people" I mutter under my breath as I continued to walk around trying to locate the stairs.
"That is possibly the only statement I have heard tonight that I do not need to fake my agreement with" I heard a voice from behind me say. When I spun around I was met with gorgeous blonde who was leaning out of a room which I had just walked past. She was wearing a dark green dress which complimented her fair skin tone.
WHAT IS WITH ME AND HOT PEOPLE WITH ACCENTS TONIGHT?
not that I'm complaining ...
"What your telling me the 'oh yes', 'tell me more' or the 'I couldn't possibly agree more' whenever some privileged man says something isn't cutting it for you anymore?" I say faking an accent at times to prove my point. A beautiful smile then graced her lips as we made eye contact for the first time. "I'm Lexi, Lexi Carter if you will" I say trying to avoiding re-joining the crowd as much as possible.
"I'm Rebekah, Rebekah Mikaelson if you will" she said, mimicking my tone.
"Ah, another Mikaelson"
"I see you've met my brothers"
"Most of your brothers and your mother"
"Ew, I am so sorry, I promise there are certainly better members of my family, such as myself of course"
"You seem so confident, you sure I won't like one of your brothers more than you?"
"Certain"
"I don't know, Kol definitely had a certain charm about him" I say clearly faking interest.
She then scoffs, "I can guarantee I can charm you better then Kol or any of my brothers could" she says her eyes then clearly scan my body, an even bigger smile crossing her lips as she finishes her 'examination'. "What are you waiting for? Come on." she says before gesturing and disappearing into the room she came out of.
~~~~~
I follow Rebekah into the room, eager to get to know the her better. Upon entering the room, I quickly take note that's it's a bedroom, her bedroom.
I fake a shocked expression before gasping dramatically. "Damn Rebekah usually people at least buy me a drink before I end in their bedrooms. I get that we had chemistry and all in the hallway but wow."
"Haha" she says narrowing her eyes at me. She then closes the door behind me before we both sit on her bed. I then notice her glass of what I assume to be bourbon and the bottle. She then pours another glass for me. I manage to suppress the negative thoughts that alcohol brings. I take the glass when she hands it to me before she said: "What did my mother wish to speak with you about?"
ah fuck
"Some ancestors of mine she met on the other side" I lie. Her expression seemed unphased so I assume I kept my heart rate stable.
After Rebekah and I talked for a while, she said that we should re-join the party now as they were about to do the champagne toast.
After gathering for Esther's speech about family or something like that, I made my way to the nearest room yet again. This room happened to be decorated with numerous paintings and other artworks. I found myself staring at a particular painting on one of walls which depicted a landscape. Art had always been one of my preferred ways to express myself.
I then heard someone enter the room and slowly walk up to me from behind before they ended up next to me. My peripheral vision managed to catch a glimpse of the man but I decided to keep standing front on.
After standing in silence for a few minutes I heard him say, "Beautiful, isn't it?"
ANOTHER HOT ACCENT
"All art is beautiful" I say, "Some works more than others, but there is always some form of beauty, you just have to find it."
"Spoken like a true artist" he said. I then noticed him turning to face me so I then mimicked his actions finally getting to see him in full. He had curly blonde hair and blue eyes. He was attractive to say the least.
ANOTHER HOT PERSON WITH AN ACCENT
"Do you paint?" He asked me. I then turned to look back at the painting. I had always painted. I found it a way to express myself and connect with my subconscious mind. Ric had even given me a room in our apartment to use as an art studio and study.
"A bit" I said. I never liked talking about my art with strangers. I have always found talking about my art to be a very personal and intimate gesture. "Do you?"
"Who do you think painted the work you are looking at, Love?" He retorted.
He painted an artwork in the Mikaelson Mansion...
ANOTHER FUCKING MIKAELSON
I genuinely thought I met all of them except Niklaus.
I did meet all of them except Niklaus.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME
"I am Niklaus Mikaelson" he stated, "Feel free to call me Nik or Klaus, whichever you prefer."
Klaus
Klaus Mikaelson
Jenna
He killed Jenna
I tensed at the memory.
"What is your name? Or would you prefer me to continue calling you Love?" He said smirking at me.
I felt my heart clench, he murdered my best friend. The only person who I have been open and honest with and now he was... flirting with me. I felt my magic trying to surface and my heart starting to race. My eyes drifted from the man in front of me to a spot on the floor. My magic was trying to break through, this wasn't an uncommon occurrence, but the strength that my magic was breaking through was beginning to over power me. Just as the lights began to flicker, there was a crashing sound right outside the door.
Klaus hadn't noticed my panic since he instantly became more focussed on the noise outside. I then heard an all too familiar voice.
Damon
Klaus and I then made eye contact before exiting the room together. I followed him to the steps of the mansion which revealed Damon standing over an unconscious Kol. On the steps with us, stood all of the other Mikaelson siblings, Stefan and Elena.
Damon, who stood at the base of the stairs, said, "Far be it for me to cause a problem" whilst making direct eye contact with Elena.
There is totally trouble in paradise
Damon then started walking away. Stefan turned around and walked past some of the Mikaelsons to reach me and said: "Please go and talk to him, he'll listen to you."
I nodded understandably before briskly walking after Damon. Once I caught up to him I said, "Care to elaborate on why you snapped original brother number 4's neck?"
"Not really" he said before stopping at his car. "Get in" he said.
"Yes sir" I said saluting him in the process he rolled his eyes at my antics.
We sat in silence until we stopped outside the outside the Salvatore Mansion. "Come on" he said as he got out of his car.
Once we were inside he poured two glasses of bourbon and handed me one.
"Sit down" he said gesturing to the couch he was sitting on.
"As much information as I am truly absorbing from this conversation where you don't seem to use words that contain more than 4 letters, can I ask what Elena did?" I say making the conclusion that his foul mood was linked to the Doppelgangers actions.
"She said that me loving her was a problem."
"At least she's finally acknowledged that you love her. That's an improvement from her awkward denial phase when she kept saying it was always gonna be Stefan or whatever."
After that Damon and I talked about how much Elena sucked before getting totally wasted.
