Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Empress

Hours flew by whilst the obsidian haired lady sat crouched on the floor, her sleeved hands hugging her legs. The bright morning rays of the sun had turned somber whilst she sat there bereaved. One could only imagine the grief she felt, with no one to bring warmth to her, tears continued their free flow.

Gradually,

She gathered enough of her self to move. Slowly rising to her feet she stood straight all while her countenance stared at the wooden floor. She turned to enter the room, lifting up her right hand to grasp be wooden door knob, hesitation slowed her movements, but she gradually turned the knob. Greeted by the grey wooden frame of the bed, she slowly lifted her face to look at the old man at rest.

White, snow like hair rested on his crown, with soft features that had been weathered with time, a content expression with a peaceful smile, as he lay on the white bed sheets. Gazing upon the sleeping old man from the door entrance, time seemed non-existent.

She approached the sleeping man with gentle steps, lightly swaying towards the bed. The somber light of the setting sun cast a mournful gaze as her figure stood, her feminine shadow casted long against his figure.

'Grandfather' she whispered. Her steel grey eyes carrying immense sadness, as tears resumed their free flow.

She had cried a lot today.

In the great Telemenpha family, news had spread around the grand estate carrying with it rumors and stories of what took place earlier today. Naturally after the meal, several questions were asked by different members of different standings, the main being,

"how did you enter the great banquet hall unnoticed?"

Naturally caught unawares at the sudden questions, the weak Jedaiah could only answer in a staid "nothing." It was a dull answer, void of any interest or power but nonetheless, it was the truth.

Reyn knew her son had secrets, some being well known by her, while others being carried in the depths of the boy's heart, so what took place in the banquet hall had left a significant impression on her.

It might have kindled the smallest kind of hope, that her son could experience a "close encounter". It was a foolish hope, but a hope nonetheless. But miracles of such magnitude could not, did not take place without any preparation, so her hope was snuffed out by the chilling truth sent by the doctor.

'Such news had taken me by surprise. Who knows how he entered that banqueting hall unnoticed, but even after that strange event, both the reading and the marks left behind show, the young lad cannot experience anything profound much less strange.'

The memo from the doctor had being the one to snuff out that smallest hope. Left distressed by such an issue, there she stood face to face with her boy in the opulent room of gold, silver, precious stones and fine silk.

"Jedaiah!"

She snarled at the gaunt young boy who stood before her with a calm expression, devoid of any of the negative emotions she had felt prior. His heterochromia eyes carrying deep respect for the being before him.

"I'm sure you have heard the news from the doctor."

"Yes mother."

"Then you must know that your father will kill you"

".....Yes.... mother."

Fear was evident in his voice, it stammered and weakened in his throat when he was reminded of his incoming demise and the powerlessness that accompanied him as he was yet again reminded. His heterochromia eyes had flickered with apparent fear, his body realeased an involuntary shudder at the spoken words, his head lowered in weakness.

Seeing the weak pitifulness of her son, anger flashed throughout her being... but with that anger, motherly love.

'He's so weak, by far the weakest between all the members... yet I can't help but feel love for him. What a strange day it is' she sighed as her motherly love doused the anger that had kindled so brightly.

She moved forward, extending her arms wide as she embraced her son. Feeling his warmth, his gaunt body hidden in the silk robes, pain pricked her heart. Though family customs dictated that the weak had to be trampled upon, she couldn't help but feel pity for the frail boy between her arms. After an unknown period of time, tears flowed, wetting her face.

Jedaiah had not once moved as his mother embraced him. He felt... safe, hidden from the world. Hearing the silent sobs, tears also trickled down his face as he was hidden in his mother's bosom.

Hair as crimson as blood, with fair features and large doe like eyes, they both shared such similarities. The golden sun had long set, the pale moonlight peeking from the curtains as they remained embraced.

Separating from the long warm hug, Reyn took a glance at her son,

'Ah, what a beautiful boy'

"Jedaiah!" This time her voice stern but coated with sweet emotion, she spoke,

"It is this family's laws that dictate the weak be trampled upon... and you are weak, you have no chance of experiencing a close encounter, the defining feature of our lineage. Though you may become proficient in other skills, you would be still weak. I know it's impossible but ohhh how I believe, how i believe it so dearly so... leave, son and live."

The pale moonlight had streaked towards their feet as she spoke, her voice tainted with soft motherly love,

''..ohhh... mother.'

Suppressing his desire to cry, he weakly agreed as the warmth of the prolonged hug gradually faded.

Such was the way of the Telemenpha, those who wanted to live had to leave behind anything and everything that correlated to the Telemenpha. Many had chosen such a path, living their days however they pleased, casting aside their true names. So had Jedaiah been offered such a path, to which he took, satisfying his desire to live.

Leaving the room that housed him all his life, with nothing but casual loose fitting clothes and a rusty blade. He stood before a winding path, the stars shimmering and the pale crescent moon smiling down from the heavens. With that he took his first steps towards an unknown future.
