Chapter 54
"Squeak!" The little fox bared its teeth as soon as it heard Trent call it "little thing" again. Trent, knowing the fox couldn't actually reach him while he was in the air, simply stuck his tongue out and made a face back.
Watching them, Euphoria felt a wave of genuine emotion. She was deeply moved that these two had actually conspired to save her. However, a shadow of worry crossed her mind—while she knew Trent could fly her away, she was terrified that the fox would be caught by the pack.
"Don't worry," Trent said, sensing her hesitation. "The little thing is incredibly fast. Those ghost beasts won't even get close enough to see its tail." The fox nodded emphatically, waving its paws with pride to prove its strength.
"It's now or never," Trent urged. "The longer we wait, the less of a head start we have. I'm no match for that eagle-beast in a straight fight." The fox chirped in agreement, pushing Euphoria toward the peacock.
