Two weeks later, Louis contacted Mo Fei about a job offer that had just come in and instructed him to get ready.
Mo Fei had been invited to model for a high-end luxury clothing brand.
A/N: I could say Louis Vuitton, but I might get sued, so no.
The brand was called 18_TH, a popular luxury house known for producing high-end clothing that people usually rushed to buy the moment a new collection dropped.
Every three months, they hosted an exclusive show to showcase their latest catalogue, and this time, they had contacted Mo Fei.
Louis, shocked and dazzled by the offer, wasted no time grabbing the deal before informing Mo Fei.
At first, Mo Fei wanted to sit this one out.
He was still exhausted from all the recent activities, Zhen's show, Vogue China, Sima Li's concert, social media storms, fan praise, public backlash, and the general burden of being ridiculously beautiful in a cruel world.
He wanted rest.
Naturally.
"You can't sit this one out," Louis said over the phone.
"Why not?" Mo Fei replied, pouring juice into a cup. "It's not like the company ever complains."
Truthfully, the former Mo Fei had not taken on many jobs. His name alone had been enough to keep the agency looking important, so no one had truly pressured him. Besides, Mo Fei wanted to rest.
He had suffered enough.
"Mm. Okay, then," Louis said.
Mo Fei nodded to himself. "Yeah. Talk later..."
"Guess I'll tell them to shove the ¥45 million down their ass, then," Louis said with a casual yawn.
Mo Fei,"…" Forty-five what?
Slowly, he lowered the juice."Run that by me again?"
"They offered ¥45 million," Louis said.
Mo Fei's entire soul returned to his body, stood at attention, and saluted capitalism.
"Well, why didn't you tell me sooner?" he snapped, immediately knocking over the juice in his hand as he rushed toward the bedroom. "What time do they want me? Ugh, what do I wear? Wait... why don't I have a personal stylist?"
"The shoot is tomorrow," Louis said. "Be ready by 10 a.m."
"Yeah, yeah, I heard you." Mo Fei flung open his wardrobe and began flipping through clothes with urgent purpose.
"Oh, and you fired your stylist," Louis added.
Mo Fei stopped. "What?"
When had he... Oh. Damn the original body.
"You have no one on your team except me," Louis said flatly. "Did you forget?"
Mo Fei paused.
A few memories flickered through his mind.
Damn it.
No wonder he had been wondering why an A-list star like him had no entourage waiting hand and foot on him twenty-four hours a day. Turns out, the former Mo Fei had liked solitude... and stress.
Mo Fei hissed.
Stupid idiot. Who got this popular and lived in solitude like a monk?
"Hire them back," Mo Fei said.
"Huh?"
"Unless you want to continue playing stylist, bodyguard, PR director, errand boy, schedule manager, crisis manager, and everything else on that peanut salary of yours, Louis, hire them back. Or fit into the role properly." Mo Fei rolled his eyes.
Louis calmly exhaled on the other end.
Truthfully, it had been exhausting working without a proper team and carrying everything alone. Thankfully, Mo Fei had finally returned to his senses.
"Will do," Louis said. "I'll find their contacts and see if they still want the job."
"Right. See you at ten." Mo Fei ended the call. Then he looked at the full wardrobe in front of him.
It was packed with luxury clothing.
Designer coats. Silk shirts. Tailored trousers.
Shoes.
Accessories.
More clothing than any normal person had the right to own.
Mo Fei, "…"
I have nothing to wear.
The wardrobe, "…"
You've got to be shitting me, Feifei.
Mo Fei slammed the wardrobe shut and walked out of the bedroom.
He went into the living room, dropped onto the couch, and began scrolling through his DM list.
"Stylist, stylist, stylist…" His finger paused. "Ahah."
He found the person he was looking for and opened her chat.
Then he typed:
Found a job yet? I've got an opening for you.
He hit send.
A few seconds later, a reply came in.
Mr. Mo Fei? Is it truly you? Wahhh, I can't believe it.
Mo Fei stared at the text.
Complicated much?
Another message popped up.
You have an opening for me? But you laid me off.
Mo Fei typed back:
Found a new job?
The reply came almost immediately.
Yes, a long time ago. But I can quit. What's up?
Mo Fei nodded slowly.
Mm.Mm. Sharp human.
He typed again.
I have an urgent need to look stunning tomorrow. Can you make it?
The response was instant.
Yes. Send your address. I'll be there.
Mo Fei sent his address, then tossed the phone onto the couch after he was done. He leaned back and sighed.
"Ahh. The life of a celebrity."
The apartment was quiet.
Chen Yu had left days ago, and Aria had gone back to her own place. Even though her family owned two other apartments in the same building, she hated living here.
According to her, it was too boring and dry, filled with rich spoiled people who walked around with their noses in the air.
Mo Fei curled his legs beneath him and stared out toward the balcony.
The view from his apartment was beautiful.
The city stretched beneath him, bright and endless, glittering under the soft evening light. Everything since transmigrating had been strange, exhausting, dramatic, and often ridiculous.
But it had also been nice. Strangely nice.
He closed his eyes and inhaled slowly.
The next morning, Mo Fei's doorbell rang. He dragged himself to the door half-awake, hair messy, eyes heavy with sleep, and pulled it open.
A young woman in her early twenties stood outside.
She held a large styling bag in one hand and wore a fitted black suit skirt with a crisp white shirt. Her hair was packed into a tight bun, her glasses sat neatly on her nose, and behind the lenses were a pair of pretty green eyes.
Mo Fei blinked at her. "You are?"
It was still too early in the day for guests.
The woman smiled politely. "Lily. I'm your old stylist, Mr. Mo."
The sleep in Mo Fei's eyes vanished instantly. "Shit." He held the door wider. "Come in. What time is it?"
"Five-thirty," Lily said as she stepped inside and closed the door behind her.
"Ahh." Mo Fei held his head. Louis would be expecting him soon. "Uhm, drop your things there."
Lily walked over and placed her bag on the table, then adjusted her glasses. "I have a shoot today at ten," Mo Fei said, still rubbing his eyes. "Think you can handle it?"
Lily nodded calmly. "Yes. You told me. That's why I came early." She looked him over once. "Shall we?"
Mo Fei nodded.
A few hours later, Lily had taken complete control of his wardrobe, his hair, and his entire existence.
Surprisingly, she was not just his stylist.
She was also his hairstylist.
In a matter of hours, she transformed Mo Fei from a sleepy disaster into the stunning, dangerously attractive model the public remembered.
When Mo Fei finally stepped out of his bedroom, he looked completely different.
He wore black trousers and a fitted black turtleneck that accentuated his elegant long neck and sharp frame. Over it, Lily had styled him in a rich brown coat that fell past his knees, adding warmth and quiet luxury to the look.
But the biggest change was his hair.
Lily had changed the colour to a soft light violet, and somehow, the shade matched his violet eyes perfectly. It made his face look even more striking, delicate and expensive, as if he had been designed for magazine covers and public heartbreak.
Mo Fei stood in front of Lily.
She studied him for a moment, then smiled proudly at her masterpiece and gave him a thumbs-up.
Mo Fei laughed.
Just then, the door opened. Both of them turned.
Chen Yu walked in carrying two grocery bags.
"Good morning," Chen Yu said.
"Chen Yu?" Mo Fei walked over to help him with one of the bags. "I didn't know you were coming."
Lily bowed politely. "Hello, Mr. Chen."
Chen Yu smiled at her before turning back to Mo Fei. "Wanted to surprise you." His gaze moved over Mo Fei. "But it looks like you're heading out." His eyes caught the hair. "Ouu. Love what you've done with the hair."
Mo Fei blushed slightly as he set the grocery bag down on the kitchen counter. "I have a shoot for 18_TH in one hour."
Chen Yu raised a brow. "Oh." Then, without hesitation, he asked, "Can I come? I'm free."
Mo Fei nodded. "Of course. We were just about to head out."
Together, Mo Fei, Lily, and Chen Yu left the apartment and headed down to the garage, where Chen Yu's white Mercedes-Benz was parked.
Lily sat in the back while Mo Fei got into the passenger seat beside Chen Yu.
Chen Yu settled into the driver's seat.
Mo Fei held up his phone. "Here's the address."
He passed the phone over. Louis had sent the location hours ago, saying he would meet them there.
Chen Yu looked it over, then started the car.
The engine roared softly to life.
Mo Fei glanced around the sleek interior and sighed. "Why don't I have a car?" he mumbled.
Chen Yu stared at him. "You never bought one."
"I don't have the money to afford this sleek model," Mo Fei cried.
Chen Yu drove the car out of the garage and onto the road. "That's impossible."
"Not everyone is richy-rich like you, Chenchen, my love." Mo Fei leaned back in the seat, feeling deeply wronged.
How many more jobs did he need to work before he could afford a life of luxury and exquisite suffering?
Lily and Chen Yu looked at him at the same time.
Mo Fei frowned. "What?"
Chen Yu glanced at him.
"Mo Fei," he said carefully, "have you ever actually checked your account balance?"
Mo Fei shook his head. "No. Why?"
He had never bothered to check.
The fear of seeing his poor net worth terrified him. He preferred living in oblivion. It was peaceful there.
"Maybe you should, Mr. Mo," Lily said from the back seat.
Was Mo Fei being serious right now?
Mo Fei took his phone back from Chen Yu and opened his bank app, his heart hanging painfully in his chest.
Why were they looking at him as if he had said something absurd?
Whatever.
He would prove them right.
He was an A-list model who was broke.
Who had ever heard of that?
Hmph.
The app opened. Mo Fei tapped his balance and he froze.
Chen Yu smiled from beside him. "Soooo…" he said lightly, "what car do you want?"
Mo Fei stared at the screen, "…"
What in the world? When? How? What?
Who?
What the fuck?
Every emotion passed across his face at once.
His account balance showed over ¥700 million yuan sitting quietly there.
Quietly.
As if it had not just slapped him across the face.
What? How did he not know this?
Why did no one tell him?
He was rich?
And not just rich.
He was 'I'll slap you for talking back at me and sue you for causing my hand emotional distress rich.'
As it turned out, the original body owner had been very wealthy, but had lived such a secluded, low-key life that he hardly spent money on anything.
The only time he had ever spent recklessly was when he dated the married woman connected to the scandal. Back then, he had bought her expensive gifts and fancy things without hesitation.
Mo Fei stared at the number again. His soul trembled as he lifted his head. "A BMW M5 Competition. Sleek black. 2025."
Chen Yu nodded immediately. "I'll contact my father's dealer for you."
Mo Fei's eyes were still fixed on the bank app.
"Do it now."
