The next morning, Mo Fei woke up to a transaction alert.
He stretched lazily on the bed, blinking against the morning light. Beside him, Chen Yu was still sleeping soundly, one arm thrown over the blanket as if he had personally fought through war during the night.
Aria was sleeping in the next room.
Mo Fei reached for his phone, rubbing one eye as he yawned. The screen lit up in his hand.
He tapped the notification.
Credit alert of ¥10,000,000 has been...
Mo Fei's eyes opened fully.
"Ouu." A slow smile spread across his face. "My money is here."
Before he could fully enjoy the sacred moment, his phone rang.
Louis.
Mo Fei answered, still yawning. "Hey."
"Good morning," Louis said. "You're up?"
"Yes. What's up?"
"I'm sure you've seen the money in your account."
Mo Fei nodded, even though Louis could not see him. "Yes, but I'm shocked to see the full amount."
"That's because you secured the deal with Mr. Li all by yourself," Louis explained. "Since the engagement was negotiated privately and did not originate through the agency, they have no claim to your appearance fee. The full ten million yuan is yours."
Mo Fei's smile grew. "I see. I was a bit worried Chen Guoliang would make trouble."
"Oh, he did," Louis sighed. "But because the agreement was effectively concluded before the agency became involved, he had no right to say anything further."
"No wonder the approval for my appearance went smoothly," Mo Fei said.
"What do you take me for?" Louis replied, sounding faintly offended. "I'm slick at these things. That's why I'm your manager."
Mo Fei laughed softly. "Mm. Thank you, Louis."
"No problem. We'll talk later."
The call ended.
Mo Fei let the phone fall lightly against the bed and yawned again.
By the gods. He was exhausted.
By then, Chen Yu had woken up.
He was lying beside him, eyes half-open but already suspicious. "What was that?"
Mo Fei turned to him and pinched his cheek. "My money came in."
Whatever sleep remained in Chen Yu's body vanished instantly. His eyes sharpened. "Shopping?"
Mo Fei beamed. "Great minds think alike."
The two of them stared at each other for one glorious second. Then, as if possessed by the same wicked spirit, they scrambled out of bed.
Within minutes, the room descended into chaos.
Clothes were grabbed. Towels were snatched. Someone nearly tripped over a slipper. Chen Yu yelled something about luxury waiting for no man, while Mo Fei declared that today, capitalism would know his name.
They rushed to get bathed and dressed, united by a single noble mission.
To reduce the income.
And bring luxury to tears.
Within a few minutes, the apartment was already under attack.
A loud crash sounded from the bedroom. Then Chen Yu screamed.
"MO FEI, THAT WAS MY FOOT!"
"It was in my way!"
"My foot was in its natural habitat!"
"Then tell it to migrate faster!"
Mo Fei stood in the middle of the room wearing black sunglasses, a white oversized shirt, black tailored shorts, and boots that looked like they had been designed specifically for him to step on feelings.
Chen Yu stood beside him in a cream shirt, loose trousers, and sunglasses resting on top of his head. In his hands were two designer bags he had decided were necessary for the journey.
The entire room looked like a storm had passed through a fashion magazine.
Shoes were scattered near the sofa. Jackets hung over chairs. A watch box lay open on the coffee table. Three belts had somehow ended up on the floor like casualties of war.
As they stepped into the elevator, Chen Yu glanced back. "Should we leave a note?"
Mo Fei adjusted his sunglasses and pressed the button for the garage. "No. If she truly loves us, she'll sense where we are."
Chen Yu nodded solemnly. "Luxury calls to family."
By the time Aria woke up, Mo Fei and Chen Yu were already gone.
All that remained was a half-open wardrobe, two towels abandoned on the floor, and a sticky note attached to the bedroom mirror.
Gone to revive through retail therapy. Don't wait up.
Love, Mo Fei and Chen Yu.
Aria stood in the doorway, hair messy, eyes half-open.
She stared at the note for three seconds.
"Those idiots."
Meanwhile, somewhere across the city, the idiots in question had already arrived at one of the most expensive luxury malls in Beijing.
The building rose like a palace of glass and gold. Tall designer storefronts lined every floor, their polished windows displaying bags, watches, suits, shoes, jewellery, perfumes, and all the unnecessary things rich people convinced themselves were spiritual necessities.
Mo Fei stood at the entrance. Chen Yu stood beside him.
For several seconds, neither of them spoke.
Chen Yu slowly removed his sunglasses. "Do you feel that?"
Mo Fei closed his eyes and sniffed the air. "Wealth."
Chen Yu placed a hand over his chest. "Generational temptation."
Mo Fei adjusted his sunglasses. "Let us proceed."
They bumped fists and walked inside.
The first store was a designer boutique with soft lighting, marble floors, and sales assistants dressed like they had never sweated a day in their lives.
The moment Mo Fei stepped in, one of the assistants glanced up.
Then froze.
Another assistant followed her gaze.
Within five seconds, the entire store had gone silent.
Mo Fei smiled. "Why, hello."
The nearest assistant recovered first and bowed slightly. "Mr. Mo. Mr. Chen. Welcome."
Chen Yu leaned close to Mo Fei's ear and whispered, "Act with grace and poise. You're rich now."
Mo Fei gestured forward. "After you, Your Highness."
Chen Yu lifted his chin slightly. "Thank you, my good sir."
A sales assistant hurried forward, her smile bright and professional.
"Mr. Mo Fei, Mr. Chen Yu, welcome. It's an honour to have you here."
She led them deeper inside.
Within three minutes, Mo Fei and Chen Yu forgot every principle of financial discipline.
Mo Fei removed his sunglasses they had used as a disguise with unnecessary elegance.
Chen Yu removed his as well. "Bring out the good things."
The assistant blinked once, then nodded quickly. "Of course."
A black silk shirt caught Mo Fei's eye first.
He stopped.
Chen Yu stopped too. They both stared at it.
Mo Fei pointed. "That."
The assistant smiled. "Would you like to try it on?"
Mo Fei looked offended. "Try?" he repeated. "No. I have eyes. I like it. I want it. Add it."
Chen Yu slowly turned to him. A proud smile bloomed across his face. "My baby is growing."
The assistant blinked again, then quickly nodded. "Of course, Mr. Mo."
Mo Fei calmly placed his sunglasses into his shirt pocket.
Chen Yu's gaze landed on a cream-coloured coat. He pointed. "That too."
The assistant hesitated. "For Mr. Mo?"
"For me," Chen Yu said.
Mo Fei turned to him. "You're shopping too?"
Chen Yu looked insulted. "Did you think I came here to be your emotional shopping cart?"
Mo Fei looked him over. "Yes."
And so it began.
At first, Mo Fei was reasonable. He tried on a cream silk shirt.
Then a black tailored coat. Then a pair of boots Chen Yu described as "walking like revenge."
Then reason quietly packed its bags and left the mall.
Chen Yu sat on a velvet couch, one leg crossed over the other, judging everything with authority.
"No," he said as Mo Fei stepped out in a red jacket.
Mo Fei looked down at himself. "No?"
Chen Yu lifted one finger. "Next."
Mo Fei turned and went back inside.
A minute later, he came out wearing a long white coat with silver buttons.
Chen Yu sat up. "Mm…"
Twenty minutes later, the first store had become a crime scene.
Clothes were being folded. Shoes were being boxed.
Accessories were being added.
Mo Fei stood in front of the mirror wearing a long charcoal coat over a soft white shirt, looking like a young prince who had just bought three kingdoms and was considering a fourth.
Chen Yu stood beside him in a wine-red jacket, arms crossed.
Mo Fei tilted his head. "Mm. Looking at me, looking at you…"
Chen Yu looked him over. "Mirror, mirror on the wall…"
"Jean-Claude Van-Damn, we're fine," Mo Fei completed.
They both burst out laughing.
The sales assistant appeared with another pair of boots. Mo Fei immediately turned to examine them.
Chen Yu, still laughing, picked up a pair of sunglasses from the display. "These are ugly," he said. "I'll buy them."
Then he pointed at the boots beside him.
"Add these."
Mo Fei pointed at the sunglasses on the table. "And those."
Chen Yu pointed at a black leather bag. "That too."
Mo Fei glanced at him. "Oh, I want that."
Chen Yu pointed at another pair of bags. "Put those."
"Bring that."
"Please don't forget that one."
"These coats are fire. Add them."
"These are so last season. Add them regardless. I'll use them as rags."
The store assistants fell into complete disarray as they scrambled around the boutique.
One nearly tripped over another.
By the time Mo Fei and Chen Yu left the first store, three staff members had to help carry their purchases to the mall concierge.
Mo Fei and Chen Yu walked out feeling reborn.
Chen Yu walked beside him, checking his phone.
"How much have we spent?" Mo Fei asked.
Chen Yu glanced at the receipt and looked disgusted. "Not enough."
"Ahh!" Mo Fei gripped his head in horror. "What? That can't be."
He looked around frantically, saw another luxury store, and immediately grabbed Chen Yu's arm.
"There. Quickly."
They entered the next store.
It was a fragrance boutique.
A sales consultant sprayed a perfume into the air, and Mo Fei closed his eyes as the scent settled around him.
Clean. Smoky. Faintly floral. With something cold underneath.
Chen Yu sniffed once. "This smells like Zhang Yichen."
Mo Fei's eyes snapped open. "Put it away."
The consultant jolted in shock and hurriedly put the bottle aside, apologising at once.
In the end, they bought an entire basket of perfumes they would probably never use.
Chen Yu paid for the fragrance.
Mo Fei watched the transaction go through. "You're using your wealth for evil."
Chen Yu accepted the shopping bag. "I learned from the best."
"Me," Mo Fei said, winking proudly.
Chen Yu leaned back with satisfaction. "This is why I love you."
They left the perfume store and headed toward a jewellery boutique.
The sales assistant who had been following them for the past fifteen minutes looked like they had seen gods, demons, and retail commission all in one afternoon.
By the fourth store, the mall staff had assigned them a private attendant.
By the sixth store, they had two.
By the eighth store, Mo Fei and Chen Yu were seated in a private lounge, sipping iced drinks while someone brought shoes to them like offerings before royalty.
The assistant returned with more clothes.
Somehow, the chaos worsened.
Mo Fei bought a velvet jacket because Chen Yu said it made him look like a tragic prince.
Chen Yu bought a pair of sunglasses because he said he needed protection from poor decisions.
Mo Fei bought a pair of shoes he absolutely did not need because, according to him, they had "called his name."
While they were heading to the ninth store, Mo Fei's phone rang.
Louis.
Mo Fei answered cheerfully. "Hello, my hardworking manager."
There was silence on the other end. Then Louis spoke.
"Why did I just receive a bank notification that nearly made my soul leave my body?"
Mo Fei blinked. "Oh."
Chen Yu leaned closer and whispered, "Tell him it was investment."
Mo Fei nodded seriously. "It was investment."
Louis's voice dropped. "In what?"
Mo Fei, "..."
"Mo Fei." Louis inhaled sharply. "Where are you?"
Mo Fei looked around at the glittering store, the marble floor, the chandelier overhead, and Chen Yu holding up a scarf that probably cost more than an average monthly salary.
"Church," Mo Fei blurted.
Louis, "..."
Say what now?
Chen Yu covered his mouth.
Mo Fei continued solemnly, "I am worshipping at the altar of luxury."
"Send me your location."
"Why?"
"So I can stop you."
Mo Fei immediately ended the call.
Chen Yu stared at him. "You hung up on your manager."
Mo Fei looked peaceful. "For my mental health. He was interrupting our retail therapy."
He exhaled, then turned back to the nine attendants holding various bags.
"Now," he said with a smile. "Where were we?"
Two of the attendants' legs gave out. They fell to the ground with a loud thud.
The rest sighed.
It was over for them.
As they reached the next store, Chen Yu turned to Mo Fei.
"Feifei, does buying three watches in one day count as financial irresponsibility?"
Mo Fei held his chin thoughtfully. "Financial irresponsibility?" He shrugged. "Never heard of her."
Chen Yu nodded. "Add this," he told the attendant.
The sales attendant, "…"
I despise rich people.
The store manager stepped forward carefully.
"Sir, are you sure? These watches are quite expensive."
Chen Yu looked at him. "Why? Is spending money dangerous?"
Mo Fei turned to him, he cupped Chen Yu's cheeks in both hands. "Money isn't dangerous. Poverty is stressful. Money is skincare."
Chen Yu nodded slowly. His Feifei sensei was wise. "Add two more."
The manager, "…"
The sales attendant, "…"
The author of this book "…"
The Readers, "..."
