The inside of the luxury sedan was stifling, the smell of expensive leather mixed with the electric tension radiating between the two occupants. Outside the city lights blurred into long neon streaks of gold and blue, but inside the world had shrunk to the space between Mike and Madison.
Madison sat in the passenger seat, her knuckles white around her designer handbag. Her long, blonde hair tumbled down her shoulders like a curtain of silk, partly hiding a face twisted with a mixture of rage and plain, unmitigated terror.
Every time she glanced at Mike, her eyes flashed with a hatred so potent it could burn, but it was a powerless rage the kind felt by a trapped animal that knows the predator holds the key to its cage.
Mike, however, looked as though he were merely enjoying a leisurely drive to a high-end lounge. His tanned, muscular arms rested casually on the steering wheel, his red hair catching the passing streetlights.
