Selfless Friend

Once, in a small village, there lived an elderly woman all by her self. Her life was filled with hardships. There was a well located very far from the village, from where she had to fetch water every single day. Even though her body was bent with age, she had to cross that long distance daily just to quench her thirst. As she walked slowly with a trembling hand holding the pitcher, it seemed as if her life was merely another name for this struggle for water.

On that very path, she used to meet a stray dog. The dog was very calm and had a charming presence. Despite her own poverty-stricken household, the old woman would give a piece of bread or a little food to the dog every day. In this way, a silent bond of friendship was formed between them.

One day, a miraculous event occurred. Suddenly, the dog gained the extraordinary ability to understand human speech. Not only that, but he could also clearly feel the old woman's pain. He saw her returning with water, her heaving chest and the sweat on her forehead telling him how agonizing this task was for her frail body.

The dog decided he would no longer remain a bystander. The next day, when the old woman set off for the well, the dog followed her. As she was about to lift the pitcher after filling it with water, the dog began to tug at the corner of her clothes. To her surprise, she saw that the dog had brought a rope in his mouth, which was attached to a small wooden plank with wheels. The dog had cleverly dragged that old, discarded plank from the village.

In amazement, the woman placed the pitcher on the plank. Then, the dog gripped the rope firmly with his teeth and began to pull the water toward the woman's house. The old woman was speechless with wonder and joy. On the way, everyone watched in awe as an animal understood human suffering and stepped forward to help.

From 그 day on, the old woman's life of hardship changed. She no longer had to carry the heavy pitcher herself. Every day, her selfless friend brings the water with utmost devotion. There are no longer tears of exhaustion in her eyes; instead, there is a heart full of love and gratitude for her four-legged companion.
