"Janine, please tell me you're joking."
I paced down the hallway with my phone pressed tight to my ear.
"I wish I was," Janine replied. "Cassandra's been holding them off, but the Hargrove client wants you in the office tomorrow. No more remote excuses."
"Dammit!" I stopped walking.
"Yeah. I'm so sorry, Elise. I bought you every extra day I could. I tried."
I sighed. "Thanks, Janine."
"Elise…Cassandra's patience has a limit. You know. Hargrove's been threatening to take the account somewhere else. You need to be in the office."
I ended the call and stared at my phone. The city was over two hours away. I couldn't do that drive alone.
I found Rhys in the kitchen, standing at the counter in a black t-shirt that had seen better days. He was pouring coffee when I walked in.
"I have to go back to the city tomorrow," I said.
He set the pot down slowly and turned around. "For how long?"
