I was knee-deep in a messy title dispute when Nadia knocked on the doorframe of the small room I'd been using as an office.
"The elders want to see you and Rhys. Right away," she said.
My stomach dropped. I tried to keep my face neutral. Nadia leaned against the frame, watching me with that calm, all-seeing look of hers.
"You can relax," she said gently. "I'm sure you're not in trouble. If anything, the elders like having you around. Most of the pack does, honestly. Given that you're human and all."
I let out a slow breath and clicked save on the document a couple of times just to be sure. "Thank you, Nadia, but I still feel like I'm walking on eggshells half the time. A human in a lycan pack house. Kind of a weird deal, right?"
Nadia smiled. "It is. But you're not causing problems. That goes a long way here. Even some of the older ones who grumble about humans have stopped complaining when you're in the room."
