I needed a break from staring at property documents that refused to make sense anymore. With Rhys gone for the day at the Crimson Assembly, the pack house felt a little quieter.
I decided to step away from my temporary office and walk around for a bit.
The pack house ran like it always did, steady and busy. I passed Callum in the main hall. He had a big map spread across the table and was giving instructions to two scouts.
"Stick to the eastern ridge tonight," he told them. "Don't engage unless they cross the line. Report back before dawn."
He glanced up as I walked by and gave me a small nod. "Elise."
"Beta," I said with a quick smile, not wanting to interrupt.
Further down the hall, the kitchen area was full of the usual evening stuff. Nadia stood at the counter directing two younger omegas.
"Double the potatoes," she said. "And don't forget the seasoning this time, or Dort will complain again."
One of the girls laughed. "Yes, ma'am."
