Chapter 51
Each and every day was peaceful for Sez. She visited Rayton early in the morning or late at night and spent time with him in the library.
Matias Karim also kept sending letters. Sez debated letting Rayton know about that, but eventually decided not to. In Sez’s mind, Matias was only caring for her out of pity and he’d stop sending letters soon enough.
‘It’d be a little embarrassing if I told Rayton about it beforehand.’
Sez made up her mind.
‘I can tell him if Lord Karim really wants to be my friend, not just out of sympathy.’
Sez soon heard some unexpected news. The emperor was in poor condition. Runa said he had been coughing more frequently since last winter.
The physicians didn’t find any major problems, so everyone simply thought it was a mild cold. However, the symptoms were getting worse. Now, even medicine didn’t work on his nasty cough.
