I never thought silence could hurt more than words.
That day, everything felt normal... until she looked at me differently.
We were sitting in our usual place—the small café where we used to laugh for hours without caring about the world. But today, she wasn't laughing. She wasn't even smiling.
Just quiet.
Too quiet.
I tried to break the silence.
"So... what happened? You've been strange lately," I said, forcing a small smile.
She didn't look at me at first. Her fingers were shaking slightly as she held her cup. Then slowly, she placed it down and finally looked into my eyes.
That look...
It wasn't love.
It wasn't warmth.
It was something I never wanted to see.
"I need to tell you something," she said softly.
My heart started beating faster.
"What is it?" I asked.
She took a deep breath. "I don't think this will work anymore."
For a moment I couldn't understand her words.
Then she said it again…
"We should end this."
My world stopped.
I couldn't breathe properly.
"Why?" I whispered. "Did I do something wrong?"
She shook her head. "It's not you… it's just life."
Those words hurt more than anything.
Because if it wasn't me… then why was she leaving?
I stood up slowly, my hands shaking.
"You promised you would stay," I said.
She looked away.
And that silence… broke me completely.
Finally, she said softly, "I'm sorry."
Then she walked away.
Without looking back.
And I stood there… broken… watching the love of my life disappear forever.
