Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

The night I was meant to be chosen…

Became the night I was destroyed.

Or so they thought.

The grand hall shimmered like something out of a dream.

Crystal chandeliers cascaded from the high vaulted ceiling, scattering golden light across polished marble floors. Silver banners bearing the crest of the Silver Moon Pack hung proudly along the walls, swaying gently in the night breeze drifting through the open arches.

Everything was perfect.

Everything was prepared.

Everything was waiting for me.

I stood at the center of it all dressed in white, the color of purity, of union, of a future already written in the stars.

My future.

My fingers trembled as I smoothed the silk of my gown. The fabric clung to me like a promise, soft and delicate, nothing like the storm building beneath my ribs.

Breathe, Elara.

Just breathe.

Tonight wasn't just any night.

Tonight was the night.

The night the Moon Goddess would seal what my heart had known for months.

The night I would stand beside the man I loved, not just as his mate…

But as his Luna.

My gaze lifted instinctively, searching for him across the hall.

And there he was.

Kieran.

Alpha Kieran of the Silver Moon Pack.

Strong. Admired. Untouchable.

And mine.

Or at least… I believed he was.

He stood among the elders, dressed in dark ceremonial attire that only made his presence more commanding. His posture was perfect, his expression composed, his aura radiating dominance.

People respected him.

Feared him.

Followed him.

And I,I loved him.

My chest tightened as our eyes almost met ,but didn't.

He looked past me.

Like I wasn't even there.

A strange unease crept into my chest.

No.

I shook the thought away.

He was just focused. This was a big night.

Our night.

"Elara."

The soft voice made me turn.

My friend Mira stood beside me, her expression warm but cautious. "You look… beautiful," she said gently, though something in her eyes flickered uncertainty, maybe even concern.

"I'm fine," I said quickly.

Too quickly.

She didn't argue.

But she didn't look convinced either.

The ceremony began.

The hall quieted as the elders stepped forward, their voices rising in ancient chants that echoed through the space like something sacred and binding.

The air shifted.

Heavy.

Charged.

Alive.

I felt it then.

That pull.

That undeniable, burning connection tightening in my chest.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

My wolf stirred, restless, expectant.

It's time.

A breath caught in my throat as my gaze lifted straight to him.

Kieran froze.

And in that moment…

I knew.

He felt it too.

The bond snapped into place like something inevitable.

Something absolute.

Relief flooded me so fast it almost hurt.

Finally.

Finally, everything made sense.

A small, shaky smile touched my lips as he began walking toward me.

Each step slow.

Measured.

Powerful.

The crowd noticed instantly.

Whispers rose.

Excitement spread like wildfire.

Because everyone could see it now, the truth.

The Alpha had found his mate.

And it was me.

My pulse raced as he stopped in front of me.

Close enough to touch.

Close enough to feel the heat of him, the pull, the connection humming between us like a living thing.

"Kieran…" I whispered, my voice trembling with something dangerously close to happiness.

This was it.

This was everything.

This was

"I, Alpha Kieran of the Silver Moon Pack…"

Something in his tone made my smile falter.

Cold.

Detached.

Wrong.

"I reject you, Elara Voss, as my mate."

Silence.

Not the soft, reverent kind.

But the kind that suffocates.

That crushes.

That kills.

The words didn't make sense.

They couldn't.

They shouldn't.

My mind refused to accept them.

But my body my body felt everything.

Pain exploded through my chest like something had been torn out of me.

My wolf screamed.

A raw, broken sound that echoed inside my soul before collapsing into silence.

My knees weakened.

My breath shattered.

And the world…

Tilted.

"Why…?" The word slipped out before I could stop it, fragile and broken. "What did I do?"

A laugh answered me.

Soft.

Cold.

Cruel.

Not his.

Hers.

I turned slowly.

And there she stood.

Lydia.

No,not the quiet, polite secretary I thought I knew.

This Lydia stood like a queen.

Confident. Untouchable. Radiating a kind of beauty that wasn't soft,it was sharp.

Dangerous.

Her lips curved into a smile that wasn't kind.

It was victorious.

Understanding hit me like a second blow.

No.

No, that couldn't be, Kieran moved.

Not toward me.

But toward her.

His arm slid around her waist with ease. Familiarity. Possession.

Like it belonged there.

Like she belonged there.

"You?" he said, finally looking at me and the disgust in his eyes was unmistakable. "You were never more than a mistake."

Something inside me went very, very still.

The pain didn't vanish.

But it changed.

It hardened.

"You needed someone presentable," he continued casually, like he wasn't dismantling my entire existence in front of the pack. "Someone acceptable… until I found better."

Lydia leaned into him, her smile widening.

"I think we both know," she added softly, her voice carrying just enough, "you were never Luna material."

The whispers started.

Low.

Hissing.

Spreading.

"Poor thing…"

"How humiliating…"

"I always knew something was off…"

Each word cut deeper than the last.

But I didn't cry.

I didn't fall.

I didn't beg.

Instead…

I straightened.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

And lifted my head.

The entire hall seemed to pause.

Because something had changed.

I could feel it.

Deep in my chest.

Not the bond.

That was gone.

Severed.

Destroyed.

But something else…

Colder.

Sharper.

Stronger.

A thought formed.

Clear.

Precise.

Deadly.

If he wanted to humiliate me…

Then I would ruin him.

"I'll marry you."

The words slipped out before anyone could stop them.

Before I could stop them.

The hall froze.

Every whisper died.

Every movement stilled.

Even Kieran's smug expression flickered.

"Excuse me?" he said.

But I wasn't looking at him anymore.

I was looking past him.

To the far end of the hall.

Where he stood.

Watching.

Silent.

Interested.

Alpha Kael.

Leader of the Darkfang Pack.

Enemy.

Monster.

Legend.

Everything they warned us about.

And everything I suddenly needed.

The crowd parted as I walked toward him.

Gasps followed.

Shock rippled through the room.

Because everyone understood what this meant.

This wasn't desperation.

This was war.

My heart pounded, but my steps never faltered.

I stopped in front of him.

Close enough to feel the danger radiating from him like heat.

His eyes locked onto mine.

Dark.

Sharp.

Amused.

"Marry me," I said.

No hesitation.

No fear.

"And I'll help you destroy him."

A long silence stretched between us.

Heavy.

Electric.

Deadly.

Kael studied me like I was something new.

Something unexpected.

Something… interesting.

Then, he smiled.

Slow.

Dark.

Dangerous.

"Careful, little wolf," he murmured, stepping closer. "I don't make temporary choices."

"Neither do I," I replied.

His hand lifted.

Tilting my chin upward.

Forcing me to hold his gaze.

"To stand beside me," he continued softly, "means you don't get to walk away."

"Good," I said. "I wasn't planning to."

Something flickered in his eyes.

Approval.

Interest.

Possibly even respect.

"Then you have a deal."

Behind me, the hall erupted.

Shock.

Outrage.

Disbelief.

Kieran's voice cut through it all.

"Elara, don't be foolish"

I turned.

Slowly.

And smiled.

Not the girl he rejected.

Not the girl he thought he broke.

Something else entirely.

"You made your choice," I said calmly. "Now I'm making mine."

His expression darkened.

Too late.

Everything was already in motion.

As Kael's hand closed around mine, steady and unyielding, one truth settled deep into my bones:

I hadn't been destroyed tonight.

I had been reborn.

And this time,I wouldn't lose.
