Chapter 41 - Shadow Reign: Rise of the Broken King

Silence.

The battlefield froze.

The defenders of Noctis.

The surviving Hunters.

The fractured Council.

Even the Thronebreaker.

Everyone stared at the lone man standing before the giant Overseer weapon.

The Sovereign had returned.

Yet…

his appearance remained almost unchanged.

No towering armor.

No crown.

No divine wings.

Just a black coat fluttering in the cold wind.

Dark eyes.

And a calm expression.

That calmness frightened everyone more than rage ever could.

The King and the Weapon

The Thronebreaker slowly lowered its enormous head.

Ancient symbols flashed across its silver armor.

Its voice echoed across the shattered fortress.

"Identity Confirmed."

"Sovereign of Shadow."

"Priority Target."

Arjun looked up without emotion.

"So..."

His voice was quiet.

"You finally remember me."

The giant raised its spear.

"I remember the one who refused correction."

Arjun's eyes narrowed.

"And I remember the one who mistook destruction for justice."

The Sky Trembles

The moment those words ended—

the air exploded.

BOOOOOOM!

Black shadows collided with pure white light.

Neither Arjun nor the Thronebreaker had moved.

Yet invisible pressure shattered towers around them.

Windows burst.

Stone walls cracked.

The battlefield split apart beneath their feet.

Kael shielded his face.

"What was that?!"

Lyra answered without taking her eyes off the battlefield.

"They're testing each other."

The First Attack

Without warning—

the Thronebreaker disappeared.

Not slowly.

Instantly.

Its gigantic spear cut through space itself.

Appearing directly above Arjun.

The spear descended.

Fast enough to split mountains.

The defenders screamed.

No one believed anyone could dodge that attack.

Arjun simply raised one hand.

CLANG!

The spear stopped.

Caught in his bare hand.

The shockwave flattened everything within hundreds of meters.

Dust filled the air.

For several seconds—

nobody could even breathe.

Kael blinked repeatedly.

"...He caught it."

Mordren stared silently.

His strongest attack earlier had failed to move that spear.

Arjun had stopped it with one hand.

The King Speaks

Arjun looked directly into the Thronebreaker's silver mask.

"Still relying on brute force?"

The giant pushed harder.

The ground beneath Arjun shattered.

But he didn't move.

Not even an inch.

Then—

Arjun gently pushed the spear away.

The Thronebreaker slid backward across the battlefield.

Leaving a trench hundreds of meters long.

For the first time—

the weapon had been overpowered.

The Overseers Watch

Far beyond reality—

inside the endless City of Light—

countless Overseers watched through floating mirrors.

None of them spoke.

Until one voice finally echoed.

"His authority has stabilized."

Another answered.

"The Sovereign has evolved."

A third voice—

older than the others—

finally spoke.

"Deploy the Second Judgment."

The chamber became silent.

Even the Overseers hesitated.

One quietly asked—

"Already?"

The ancient voice answered.

"He is no longer the king we defeated."

Arjun's Doubt

Back on the battlefield—

Arjun looked at his own hand.

He had stopped the attack easily.

Too easily.

That frightened him.

Power this overwhelming had once corrupted him.

Would it happen again?

A familiar voice answered from within.

Not commanding.

Not forcing.

Simply reminding.

"Power does not choose the king."

"The king chooses how power is used."

Arjun slowly closed his hand.

"No."

He whispered.

"I won't repeat the past."

The Defenders Regain Hope

The people of Noctis saw it.

For the first time—

the impossible enemy had been pushed back.

Cheers slowly spread through the defensive lines.

Hunters lifted broken weapons again.

Merchants began helping the wounded.

Even frightened civilians looked toward the battlefield with hope.

Lyra smiled faintly.

"He's giving them something."

Kael nodded.

"Hope."

Mordren corrected him.

"No."

His eyes remained fixed on Arjun.

"A future."

The Thronebreaker's True Form

The silver giant slowly stood again.

Its armor cracked.

Thin lines of black energy spread beneath the silver plates.

Arjun frowned.

"...That's new."

The Thronebreaker spoke.

"Limiter removed."

The silver armor shattered.

Piece after piece fell away.

What stood beneath wasn't mechanical.

It looked almost human.

Tall.

Covered in ancient white markings.

Its face was visible now.

And Arjun froze.

Because the face staring back at him...

was almost identical to his own.

Only the eyes were different.

Pure white.

Emotionless.

The battlefield fell into stunned silence.

Kael whispered,

"...Why does it look like him?"

The Veiled One closed her eyes.

"They used his image..."

"...to create the perfect weapon."

The Forgotten Truth

The Thronebreaker pointed its spear toward Arjun.

"Our creator used your authority..."

"...to forge your execution."

Fragments of memory exploded inside Arjun's mind.

Laboratories of white crystal.

His own blood.

Ancient experiments.

Chains.

Screams.

The Overseers hadn't merely built a weapon.

They had built it...

using him.

The Challenge

The Thronebreaker lowered its stance.

White energy gathered around its body.

The battlefield began collapsing again.

Arjun took a single step forward.

Darkness flowed around his feet.

Black lightning danced across the broken ground.

The two ancient enemies faced each other once more.

One born from absolute order.

The other carrying the weight of absolute freedom.

Neither spoke.

Neither hesitated.

Because both understood—

the next exchange would decide far more than the fate of Noctis.

It would decide which vision of the world survived.

Final Scene

Far beyond both armies—

hidden in the deepest layer of reality—

an enormous sealed door slowly trembled.

Ancient chains cracked.

Something behind it laughed.

A low...

patient...

terrifying laugh.

A forgotten voice whispered through the darkness.

"The game has begun again."

Neither Arjun...

nor the Overseers...

realized they had just awakened an enemy older than both of them.
