Chapter 22 - Chapter 21:The Afterimage of Silence

The Holy Sanctuary did not collapse with a roar. It dissolved with the sound of a sigh.

In the wake of the erasure, a heavy, unnatural mist began to roll off the silver sea or what remained of it. The mist was not composed of water vapor, but of Ethereal Energy and the fragmented memories of the three thousand experts who had occupied the space moments before. It was a Phantasm born from the sudden vacancy in the Collective Unconscious state.

Xuan Ye sat upon the throne of the High Priestess, but he did not feel like a conqueror. He felt like a reader who had skipped to the end of a volume only to find the last few pages were missing.

His Ink-Wash Heart was loud.

[Ink-Wash Heart: 65% Progress]

[Status: Excessive Data Overflow]

[Unwritten Library: Cataloging The Hall of Mercy..]

The sheer volume of Qi Essence he had consumed was staggering. An Ascension Realm expert was not just a person they were a localized Actual World. By absorbing seven of them, Xuan Ye had effectively swallowed seven different sets of universal axioms. His internal world, the Unwritten Library, was currently a chaotic storm of black ink as it struggled to absorb the Laws of Life, Rebirth,Radiant Sun,time and other laws.

He looked down at his hands. The obsidian luster of his skin was fading, returning to the pale, fragile look of a twelve year old boy. The Purple Ink Core within him had retracted, hiding its Proto-World density deep behind the veil of his Transcendent Mortal Physique.

The world cannot know yet, Xuan Ye thought, his mind working with the cold precision of a machine. If the Northern Emperor or the Sage of the Twin Towers feels the full weight of a 65% Ink-Wash Heart, they will not send armies. They will send sovereigns.

He stood up. The throne beneath him turned to grey dust.

He needed to maintain the mystery. In the style of the ancient players, he could not be the monster in the light he had to be the shadow that people suspected but could never prove.

"Library," he whispered.

"Generate a Residual Script. Make it look like a Demonic Catastrophe. Leave traces of Abyssal Energy and Ghost-Wail Path logic. The world must believe the Demonic Kingdom launched a suicidal strike to claim the Shard of Genesis."

[Initiating Forgery of Fate...]

Black ink bled from his feet, staining the white coral floors. But as the ink spread, it changed. It began to take on the foul, sulfuric scent of Demonic Energy. It manifested the jagged, cruel runes of the six demonic holy sects. He was overwriting the truth with a plausible lie.

Xuan Ye walked toward the edge of the First Petal. The silver sea was now a dark, stagnant marsh.

He felt a ripple in the air. Someone was watching. Not through physical eyes, and not through a Domain. It was a gaze from the Sunyata the Empty space that existed as a much deeper layers above the Finite World.

He didn't look up. Instead, he pulled the tattered blue robes of a page back over his shoulders. He slumped his posture, let his eyes grow watery, and allowed his breathing to become shallow.

"Xuan... Ye..."

A voice echoed from the wreckage.

He turned. Emerging from a pile of white silk and broken jade was Zhao Ling. The Third Princess of the North was alive, but her Heavenly Eyes were bleeding. She had been shielded by the High Priestess's final act of Life Energy, but the sight of the absorption had scorched her soul.

"Your Highness!" Xuan Ye cried out, his voice cracking with terror. He rushed toward her, stumbling over the debris. "You're alive! The darkness... the black fire... it ate everyone!"

Zhao Ling looked at him, her vision blurred. She saw a boy in rags, covered in soot and grey dust.

"The Priestess... the Sect Leaders..." she wheezed, her hand clutching at her chest. "They are... gone. I felt their life force go out. What happened, Xuan Ye? What did you see?"

Xuan Ye knelt beside her, his hands shaking. "I saw a hole in the sky, Your Highness. A giant shadow with a thousand mouths. It spoke in a language that made my ears bleed. It said it came from the Kingdom of Silence. Then...then everything just vanished."

Zhao Ling's breath hitched. The Kingdom of Silence. The hidden seventh demonic sect? Or something deeper? She didn't suspect the boy. To her Heavenly Eyes, he was still a Void a mortal with broken meridians. Even now,his concealment logic was so advanced that it treated her gaze as Fantasy and presented her with the Reality she expected to see.

"We have to... leave," Zhao Ling whispered. "The Northern Emperor... my father... he will be here soon. The resonance of a dead Ascension master can be felt across the entire the entire universes."

Xuan Ye nodded, helping her stand. "Yes, Your Highness. We must go. But the Pillar... the Pillar of Absolute Infinity... it's gone black."

Zhao Ling looked at the dark spire. A cold dread filled her. The Pillar was a place beyond scientific definition, a bridge to the Kabbalah hierarchies. If it had turned black, it meant the connection to the Absolute had been severed.

The Finite World was now drifting.

"The world is changing, Xuan Ye," she said, leaning heavily on him. "The script we knew... it's been torn."

As they began their slow, agonizing trek back toward the outskirts of the Sanctuary, Xuan Ye felt the Book of Fate turn a page in the dark.

Deep in the Vast Space, far above all realms, something stirred. A pair of eyes that viewed the entire Finite World as a mere allegory flickered for a microsecond.

An error had occurred. A character had stopped following the lines.

Xuan Ye felt the gaze for a fleeting moment. He didn't flinch. He just kept walking, a mortal boy supporting a broken Princess, leaving behind the ruins of a divinity he had just finished eating.

The blood war was over, but the investigation was just beginning. And in the game of shadows, Xuan Ye was the only one who knew that the detective and the murderer were the same person.
