Synopsis
"I didn't just survive the executioner’s light. I ate it." In the Aethelgard Empire, your soul is your currency. Everyone is born with a Core—a source of Divine Light that determines their rank, their power, and their worth. Vespera was born a Null. To the Empire, she was a mistake. To the High Priests, she was a waste of breath. On the day of her execution, Vespera prepares to dissolve into the Pit of Judgment. But as the Divine Strike hits her, something ancient awakens in the hollow space where her heart should be. Her "Null" core isn't empty—it’s a Void. Instead of dying, Vespera devours the High Priest’s magic, shattering the Imperial Seal and accidentally tethering her soul to the world’s most dangerous prisoner: Xylo, the Fallen Star. Once a High Commander of the Heavens, Xylo is a being of pure, lethal starlight. Now, he is shackled to a scavenger girl by a Divine Tether. If they stay together, they are a walking apocalypse. If they move more than ten meters apart, their souls will shatter. [System Notification: Synchronization at 1%] Hunted by the Emperor’s Seekers and forced into a "Ten-Meter Hell," the two must reach the Crystalline Wastes to stabilize their bond. But Vespera isn't just running anymore. Every spell she consumes makes her stronger. Every touch from her Fallen protector feeds the hunger. The Empire called her a void. She’s going to show them that even the stars can be swallowed.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The devourer’s first meal

The silver shackles biting into Vespera's wrists weren't just metal; they were soul-dampeners. They hummed with a low, nauseating frequency designed to keep her "Null" core quiet while the Empire prepared to erase her from existence.

"Vespera of the Gray Wastes," the High Priest intoned, his voice echoing off the obsidian walls of the Execution Square. He stood atop a floating dais, his white robes shimmering with stolen starlight. "For the crime of being born without a Core—for being a void in the weave of the Great Light—the Emperor sentences you to Extraction."

Vespera looked up, her mismatched eyes—one a dull slate, the other a flickering violet—narrowing through the dirt and matted hair covering her face. Below her, the "Pit of Judgment" swirled with liquid Aether, a glowing pool of gold meant to dissolve the unworthy.

"I didn't choose to be empty," Vespera rasped, her voice cracking.

"Precisely," the Priest sneered. "And the Empire has no room for empty vessels."

He raised his staff. The Aether-Quartz at the tip didn't just glow; it screamed. A beam of pure, Divine Light descended from the sky, a concentrated pillar of energy designed to vaporize a soul in less than a second.

The crowd held its breath. The guards turned their eyes away.

Vespera felt the heat. It was an agonizing, blinding white that should have turned her to ash. But as the light touched her skin, something inside her chest—the cold, silent spot where her Core should have been—didn't break.

It opened.

The sound that followed wasn't an explosion; it was a slurp.

To the horror of the High Priest, the Divine Beam didn't incinerate the girl. It began to curve. The light was being pulled into Vespera's chest, swirling into a miniature black hole centered right over her heart.

"What is this?" the Priest shrieked, his dais wobbling as the very magic keeping him afloat began to bleed toward the girl in chains. "Stop it! Guards, kill her!"

Vespera didn't hear him. She was too busy feeling her blood turn into liquid fire. For nineteen years, she had been a hollow shell. Now, for the first time in her life, she felt full.

"More," she whispered, her violet eye snapping into a brilliant, neon glow.

She ripped her hands apart. The silver shackles didn't just break—they shattered into dust, their enchantments swallowed whole by her skin. Vespera stood up, the white execution robes fluttering in the violent gale created by her own vacuum.

She looked at the Priest, and the hunger roared.

"You called me a void," Vespera said, her voice now layered with a terrifying, hollow resonance. "You were right."

She lunged. Not toward the guards, but toward the "Great Seal" at the back of the square—the barrier that held the Empire's most dangerous war criminals. She needed more power to stabilize the riot in her veins, and the Seal was a feast of ancient, forbidden magic.

She slammed her palms against the dark crystal of the Seal.

The explosion leveled the Execution Square. A shockwave of violet-black energy threw the guards like ragdolls and sent the High Priest plummeting into his own Pit.

As the smoke cleared, Vespera knelt in the center of a crater, gasping for air. Her skin was etched with glowing violet runes that pulsed like a heartbeat. But she wasn't alone in the ruins.

From the shattered remains of the high-security cell, a figure emerged.

He was towering, his torso bare and covered in glowing golden scars that looked like chains. His hair was the color of a dying star, and behind him, two massive, tattered black wings unfurled, shaking off the dust of a century of imprisonment.

Xylo. The Fallen Star. The man who had once tried to burn the capital to the ground.

He looked at Vespera, his golden eyes burning with a mix of fury and confusion. He took a step toward her, his hand reaching for her throat. "Who... are you? Why did you wake me?"

Before he could touch her, Vespera's Core let out a final, desperate pulse. The magic she had stolen from the Seal was too much to hold. It needed an anchor. It needed a counter-weight.

A cord of shimmering, violet-gold energy snapped into existence, lashing out from Vespera's chest and burying itself into Xylo's heart.

Xylo let out a guttural roar, stumbling back as the bond took hold. Vespera fell forward, her forehead thudding against his chest.

Xylo looked down at the small, silver-haired girl literally stitched to his soul. He looked at the guards rushing toward them. Then he looked at the sky.

"You've cursed us both, little shadow," Xylo growled, but he didn't push her away. Instead, he scooped her up, his wings snapping shut as he prepared to leap. "I hope you're as hungry as you look. Because the whole world is coming for breakfast."
