Chapter 1 - The Student Council President

The first thing everyone noticed about the student council president was his silence—and the personality that came with it: quiet, composed, and impossible to read.

No—his silence wasn't ordinary. It was deliberate, calculated, and heavy enough to command attention without a single word. When he walked down the hallways, conversations dimmed, as if the world itself paused. When he entered a room, people straightened their posture instinctively. His presence alone was enough.

Kang Jae-min liked it that way.

Quiet. Peaceful.

And really, who wouldn't?

But of course, not everyone was the same.

Some people preferred silence—kept things orderly, controlled, and still.

Others were the complete opposite.

They didn't create chaos, not exactly… but they filled spaces with noise, laughter, and life. The kind of presence that turned quiet corners into something warm and lively.

To be honest, everyone liked Kang Jae-min—the teachers, the students, the principal, even the school staff. And really, who wouldn't?

He was smart—no, more than that—exceptional. His intelligence was unmatched, and his leadership was so precise and effective that people couldn't help but admire him… and envy him.

He was everything a student should be.

But what no one knew—

was that even Kang Jae-min had someone he couldn't handle.

And that someone was Lee Hyun-woo.

The loudest person in the entire university.

The school's so-called clown—lively, carefree, and impossibly noisy. He was the complete opposite of Jae-min in every way. Where Jae-min was calm, Hyun-woo was chaotic. Where Jae-min was composed, Hyun-woo was unpredictable.

Academically, he wasn't particularly outstanding. He talked too much, laughed too loudly, and had a habit of turning even the quietest spaces into something far too lively.

He didn't create chaos on purpose—

but somehow, chaos always followed him.

Even the teachers and students council officers struggled to keep him in line.

He was always at the student council office—or, more often than not, at the principal's office.

At this point, it wasn't even surprising anymore.

"Oh? You're here. Again."

That was usually how they greeted him, a mix of disbelief and tired amusement in their voices.

But for Hyun-woo?

He was used to it.

In fact, he would just grin, shrug his shoulders, and walk in like he belonged there—completely unfazed, as if being called in again and again was nothing more than part of his daily routine.

One afternoon at the cafeteria.

The space was filled with noise—laughter, chatter, the clatter of trays and utensils. It was nothing unusual. After all, it was a cafeteria, crowded with students enjoying their break.

At one of the long tables, the student council officers were gathered, engaged in what seemed like an important discussion.

Well… probably important.

Or maybe they were just talking about how to deal with Lee Hyun-woo.

…No, not really.

Then, the president arrived.

The moment Kang Jae-min stepped into the cafeteria, everything changed. Conversations gradually softened, laughter faded, and one by one, students straightened in their seats.

As he walked toward the table where the officers were sitting, the once lively atmosphere dimmed into silence.

And honestly, who wouldn't go quiet when the student council president showed up?

…Well.

Not everyone.

Amid the silence, one voice still rang out—loud, bright, and completely unbothered.

Lee Hyun-woo.

He laughed as if nothing had changed, as if the entire cafeteria hadn't just gone still. His presence alone disrupted the tension, careless and free.

One of his friends quickly tried to cover his mouth, whispering harshly, "Hey! Shut up! The president's here!"

Hyun-woo pulled away, frowning slightly before scoffing.

"Why?" he said, loud enough for people nearby to hear. "Are you scared of him?"

He leaned back in his chair, completely relaxed.

"He's not that scary."

Jae-min heard it.

Of course he did.

In a room that had fallen almost completely silent, Hyun-woo's voice stood out like a spark in the dark—impossible to ignore, impossible to miss.

"He's not that scary."

For a brief moment, Jae-min's steps slowed.

Just slightly.

Not enough for most people to notice—but enough.

The student council officers at the table stiffened as he approached, each of them suddenly unsure of where to look. One of them even coughed awkwardly, as if trying to break the tension that had settled over the air.

Jae-min stopped at the head of the table.

His gaze lifted.

And then—

it landed directly on Lee Hyun-woo.

Across the cafeteria, their eyes met.

Hyun-woo blinked.

Then, as if nothing was wrong at all, he grinned.

Jae-min's expression didn't change.

But the air did.

"…Is there a problem?"

His voice was calm. Flat. Controlled.

Yet it carried across the quiet cafeteria with ease.

Several students immediately lowered their heads, pretending to focus on their food. Even Hyun-woo's friends froze, their earlier panic now turning into silent dread.

Hyun-woo, however—

tilted his head.

"A problem?" he repeated, as if genuinely thinking about it.

Then he smiled again, brighter this time.

"None at all, President Kang."

A pause.

Then, without looking away, he added—

"Just saying the truth."

A sharp inhale came from somewhere nearby.

Jae-min watched him for a few seconds longer.

Silent.

Unreadable.

Then—

"Finish your meal quietly," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

It wasn't shouted. It wasn't harsh.

But it was final.

A command.

Most people would've immediately obeyed.

Hyun-woo didn't.

Instead, he rested his chin on his hand, still looking straight at Jae-min.

"Or what?"

The words slipped out lightly, almost playful.

But the effect—

was immediate.

The tension in the room snapped tight.

One of his friends whispered urgently, "Hyun-woo, stop—"

But it was too late.

Jae-min's gaze sharpened, just for a second.

Barely noticeable.

"…Or you'll be asked to leave," he replied.

Still calm.

Still controlled.

Hyun-woo hummed, as if considering it seriously.

Then he shrugged.

"Hmm. That's boring."

A few people at nearby tables looked like they might pass out from secondhand stress.

But Hyun-woo only smiled, pushing his tray aside as he stood up.

"Fine, fine. I'll behave."

He raised both hands in mock surrender—though the grin on his face said otherwise.

As he stepped away from his table, he paused.

Then, leaning just slightly closer as Jae-min passed by—

he spoke again, quieter this time.

"So you can be scary."

Jae-min didn't stop walking.

Didn't look at him.

Didn't react.

"…Go back to your seat," he said.

Hyun-woo chuckled softly.

"See you later, President."

And just like that, he walked off—hands in his pockets, completely unbothered.

Leaving behind a cafeteria that slowly, cautiously, began to breathe again.

Jae-min took his seat at the table.

"President…" one of the officers started carefully, "should we—"

"No."

The answer came immediately.

Short. Firm.

There was nothing more to say after that.

The conversation resumed, quieter than before.

Order returned.

Everything went back to how it should be.

And yet—

for some reason—

Jae-min found himself staring, just for a second, at the direction where Hyun-woo had disappeared.

His expression didn't change.

But his fingers paused briefly against the table.

Annoying.

That was all.

Lee Hyun-woo was nothing more than—

a distraction.

Unfortunately,

it was a distraction he couldn't seem to ignore.

After the break, the student council office had returned to its usual quiet atmosphere. Papers were neatly arranged, officers focused on their tasks.

Then—

the door suddenly burst open.

"President Kang! President Kang!"

A student rushed in, clearly out of breath, his voice strained as he tried to speak.

Jae-min didn't look up immediately. "What is it?"

"Lee Hyun-woo—he's… he's…" the student stammered, struggling to catch his breath.

At the mention of the name, Jae-min's expression darkened slightly.

"Lee Hyun-woo? What about him?"

"He's fighting with another student—in the restroom!"

Silence fell over the room.

This time, Jae-min stood up without hesitation, his chair scraping against the floor. His expression remained calm—but his eyes were cold.

Again.

Without another word, he walked out.

The noise was already echoing from the hallway before he even reached the restroom.

Shouting. Scuffling.

Annoying.

Jae-min pushed the door open.

The scene in front of him was exactly what he expected.

Disorder.

Students crowded around, some trying to intervene, others just watching. In the center, Hyun-woo had another student pinned, his fist raised—

"Lee Hyun-woo."

The voice was low.

But it cut through everything.

Hyun-woo stopped.

Slowly, he turned his head.

"…President Kang?"

There was blood on his lip, his breathing uneven—but his expression didn't look the least bit guilty.

Jae-min's gaze shifted to the other student on the ground.

Pathetic.

"Step away," he ordered.

Hyun-woo clicked his tongue but obeyed, standing up and brushing off his uniform like it was nothing.

Jae-min didn't spare him another glance.

"You," he said to the others, "take him to the clinic. Now."

The students quickly moved, dragging the injured boy out. The crowd scattered soon after, leaving the restroom quiet once again.

Only the two of them remained.

Jae-min finally looked at him.

Cold. Sharp.

"Come to the office."

A pause.

"Now."

The walk back was silent.

Hyun-woo followed behind, hands in his pockets, unusually quiet—but Jae-min didn't care enough to question it.

When they entered the office, all eyes turned toward them.

Jae-min returned to his seat.

"Explain."

Hyun-woo leaned lazily against the wall. "It was nothing."

Jae-min's gaze hardened.

"A student was injured."

"He started it."

"And you decided to handle it like this?" Jae-min's voice dropped slightly. "Are you incapable of thinking before you act?"

Hyun-woo frowned a little at that but didn't answer.

Of course.

Jae-min exhaled slowly, already losing patience.

"You'll write a report. A formal apology. And you'll accept whatever disciplinary action is given."

Hyun-woo scoffed lightly. "That serious?"

Jae-min's eyes turned cold.

"Do you find this amusing?"

Silence.

For once, Hyun-woo didn't joke.

"...No."

"Then act like it."

The room felt tense, no one daring to interrupt.

Jae-min continued, voice firm and unyielding.

"This is not the first time you've caused trouble. If you can't control yourself, then I'll make sure someone does."

Hyun-woo straightened slightly, irritation flashing across his face.

"Whatever you say, President."

Dismissive.

Careless.

Exactly the same.

Jae-min's grip on his pen tightened.

"Get out."

Hyun-woo didn't move immediately.

For a second, it seemed like he was going to say something—

but instead, he just clicked his tongue.

"Fine."

He pushed himself off the wall and walked toward the door.

As he opened it, he paused briefly, glancing back.

"…You really hate me, huh?"

Jae-min didn't even look up.

"Don't flatter yourself."

A beat of silence.

Then—

Hyun-woo chuckled softly.

"Yeah. Figures."

And just like that, he left.

The door closed.

The room remained silent.

Jae-min continued working as if nothing had happened, his expression unchanged, his movements precise.

Everything was back in order.

Everything was as it should be.

Annoying.

That was all Lee Hyun-woo was.

A constant disturbance.

A problem that refused to go away.

Unfortunately,

it didn't look like that problem would be solved anytime soon.
