Cherreads

Chapter 1 - 1.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The sound of water droplets pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned off the stove and walked over, twisting the sink faucet shut.

The thin stream stopped, leaving the kitchen in silence.

I returned to the dining table, holding a kettle whose warmth seeped into my palm. Setting it down, I pulled out a chair and sat comfortably. My hand reached for a cup and a small packet of coffee lying on the table.

Screek.

I poured the coffee powder into the cup, then grabbed the kettle and slowly filled it with hot water.

A light, slightly fruity aroma spread through the air. My mind cleared, and without realizing it, my shoulders relaxed.

"Finally… a day off."

Feeling oddly satisfied, I reached for my laptop to play some games and kill time—but paused.

"Hmm… I'm kinda bored of these games. Maybe I should find something new?"

I muttered to myself while scrolling through a search page.

After a while, my eyes caught a game sitting at the very top of the rankings.

[Mɏ †µrñ.]

"The title feels… personal. And kinda ominous. Is this some kind of detective game?"

Curious, I clicked on it and checked the description.

Have you ever dreamed of becoming something else?

Someone different… a character from another world…

Or even a noble, a king… perhaps an emperor?

Welcome to My Turn! An RPG where you can become anything you desire.

Want to be a knight? Fight.

Want to be a merchant? Be cunning.

Want to be an assassin? Be cold.

Elf, Dwarf, Demon—choose your own fate. This world will not limit you.

Anything you wish for, My Turn will grant it.

But remember one thing.

'You are not the main character.'

"So basically… just another RPG?"

I leaned back, staring at the screen.

"No… there's definitely something weird about this."

Below it were several well-known games that had dominated the charts years ago. And yet—this RPG had surpassed even competitive titles?

Yeah. Something was off.

Curious, I opened a forum tab and started scrolling through reviews.

@chengster

"Thought this was a normal RPG… turns out I'm NOT the protagonist 😭 10/10 existential crisis"

@Nayuyuk

"First time playing a game where I genuinely feel unnecessary… kinda hurts but immersive af"

@NandoBool

"Finally a game that represents me: background character 🗿"

@ZixiejuraganMBG

"Died to a random event that wasn't even my quest. Peak design 👍"

@Rikawupolkadot

"I thought I was the chosen one… nope, just collateral damage 💀"

@Rarayuk

"Spent hours making a cool backstory and build… world reset. Everything gone. Nice."

@Jejeon

"Other games: 'You are special'

This game: 'Who do you think you are?'"

@buoloru

"This game is so frustrating… I hate it. 10/10, playing again."

@jukiewp

"Did NOT expect the character customization to go this hard. You can literally import characters from anime, comics, movies—everything."

@OpEuo (replying to @theorhunter)

"Bro I recreated Saber from Fate and she actually had Excalibur mechanics 💀"

@gOonerONE (replying to @jukiewp)

"Hehehe…"

@jukiewp (replying back)

"Yeah nah, I'm not clicking your profile 💀"

@GuluHu

"The more you play, the more it feels like something is controlling the world… creepy but kinda cool"

"Character customization…?"

I paused.

"You're telling me I can import characters from anime…?"

That's insane.

Wait—was it limited to anime? Or could I use characters from manga… comics… even movies?

"Let's find out."

I kept digging through the forums. As expected, there were countless posts—characters from everywhere. Anime, comics, films—you name it.

The top post even showed a streamer laughing hysterically after successfully importing a character from… something extremely questionable.

"…What the hell."

The more I scrolled, the more intrigued I became.

Without hesitation, I went back to the main page and started downloading the game.

"Wait—720GB?! Just how massive is this game…?"

Thankfully, I still had enough storage.

While waiting, I picked up my phone and continued reading Jujutsu Kaisen. The Shinjuku Arc was currently ongoing.

Honestly, I already had a rough idea of how it would end.

Like most shounen series—the protagonist overcomes everything in the end.

Still… a small part of me hoped for something different. Something unexpected.

"Yeah… wishful thinking."

After a while, I put my phone down.

"…As expected."

Sigh.

"What was I even hoping for?"

It's not like I completely hated the ending—well, maybe a little.

I mean, watching your favorite character lose? Yeah… that stings.

"Feels like my ego just took a hit. Damn."

Ting!

"Hm? Oh—it's done. Nice."

I pulled my chair closer and leaned forward, clicking Launch.

The screen flickered, turning blue.

A large message appeared.

"Welcome to Mɏ †µrñ, Player!"

Below it was a worn-out map showing seven continents, each labeled with different races—humans, elves, dwarves, demons… even dragons—

—Flicker.

"…Huh?"

The screen glitched.

The map changed. Every continent label turned into question marks.

And the UI text above shifted into—

"Welcome, Outsider."

"…Is this a bug?"

"Or some kind of developer interaction?"

"No way a top-ranked game has bugs right at the start… must be intentional."

"I'll ask about it later. For now… where do I start?"

I searched for a "Start" button.

Nothing.

Just the map. And question marks.

"…Don't tell me I have to pick a continent."

I moved my cursor and clicked a random spot.

The screen flickered again.

Two options appeared.

"Gotcha."

…Wait.

I clicked randomly.

What if I spawn in some cursed location? A high-level zone? Somewhere impossible to survive?

"…Wouldn't that make it more fun?"

"It's just a game, after all."

Convincing myself, I selected the option.

The screen changed again.

Gacha

Character Customization

Without hesitation, I chose Customization.

Another set of options appeared.

New Character

Import Character

"…Yeah, I'm not building from scratch."

I selected Import Character.

The screen loaded a massive list—99+ pages.

Naruto. Goku. Luffy. Jojo. Eren. Thanos.

"…Kazuma? Gintoki?"

"…Are they serious?"

I chuckled.

Then my eyes landed on the search bar.

"…I think I know exactly who I want."

I typed:

Ryomen Sukuna.

Ting!

Ryomen Sukuna — The King of Curses from the Heian Era

Race: Curse/Demon

Trait: Destructive Terminator

[Are you sure you want to select this race?]

[Yes] [No]

[ERROR]

[EROR]

[̶E̶R̶R̶O̶R̶]

"…Huh?"

Bzzzt.

[Selection confirmed. Cannot be changed.]

[ERROR—]

Bzzt.

Bzt.

[Welcome—]

Click.

"What? Why did it—why did my screen turn off?!"

Panic surged through me.

"Did I just download a virus or something?! That makes no—"

"Ugh—"

A sudden headache hit.

No—this wasn't normal.

It felt like my brain was being crushed under immense pressure.

My head slammed onto the table.

Through my fading consciousness, the laptop screen flickered back to life.

A woman appeared.

Clad in blood-soaked knight armor, standing in a ruined world.

"…W-what?"

For a split second—

She turned.

And looked straight at me.

A hollow gaze.

A crooked smile.

"…Finally found you."

Darkness swallowed everything.
