Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Memories from a Distant Homeland

The dining area grew quiet as the last traces of spice and coconut lingered in the air. Shuna sat with perfect posture, her hands folded in her lap, while Rimuru, Ramiris, and Gobta leaned forward with gentle interest. Veldora remained calm and attentive, his golden eyes steady. The meal had already created a feeling of closeness, yet something deeper now stirred within the bond between Veldora and Takumi.

Veldora spoke in a measured, warm voice so that every word reached the others clearly. "Takumi wishes to share his memories of Malaysia, the land from which he came in his former life. The dishes you prepared, Shuna, have opened a window to his past. He asks if we would like to hear."

Shuna's eyes softened with quiet emotion. "Yes, please. I would be honored to listen and learn more about the place these recipes truly belong to."

Rimuru gave a small, encouraging nod. "We are all family here, Takumi. Speak freely."

Gobta wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and grinned. "I want to know everything! Especially the food parts."

Ramiris floated closer, her small wings fluttering. "Tell us stories! I love hearing about faraway places."

Veldora closed his eyes for a brief moment, allowing Takumi's calm presence to flow through their shared soul. The words came steadily, relayed with Veldora's mature tone yet carrying Takumi's own gentle sincerity.

"In my old world, I lived in Malaysia, a beautiful country filled with green hills, warm seas, and people from many backgrounds living side by side. I grew up in Ipoh, a town known for its old buildings and delicious street food. Every morning, the air carried the scent of fresh Nasi Lemak wrapped in banana leaves. I would buy one from a small stall near my home, sit on a wooden bench, and eat while watching the town wake up. The coconut rice was soft, the sambal spicy but comforting. It made even ordinary days feel special."

Shuna listened with rapt attention, her gentle smile growing. "So the recipe I followed today was part of your daily life. I feel even happier knowing that."

Takumi continued through Veldora. "Later, when I worked as a programmer, I moved between Ipoh and the bigger city of Kuala Lumpur. The nights there were alive with light. I remember walking through night markets where the smell of grilling Satay mixed with the sound of laughter. Families gathered around tables, sharing plates of Char Kway Teow and Roti Canai. I would finish long hours of coding, then join friends at a simple open-air stall for Beef Rendang and Nasi Kandar. The spices reminded me that hard work deserved good food and good company."

Gobta's eyes widened with delight. "That sounds like our own festivals! But with different tastes. I want to visit that market one day, even if it is only in a story."

Ramiris clapped her hands. "Night markets! Were there lights everywhere? Did people sell toys and games too?"

Takumi's voice grew softer, filled with quiet fondness. "Yes, there were colorful lights and stalls selling all kinds of things. I was an otaku even then. After work, I would visit small cafes that showed anime on big screens. We gathered to watch new episodes together, discussing the plots late into the night. During festivals like Merdeka, the whole country lit up with fireworks and parades. I felt proud to belong to a place that mixed old traditions with new ideas."

Rimuru's expression turned thoughtful and kind. "It sounds like a land full of warmth and harmony. Your memories carry the same peaceful strength we try to build here in Tempest."

Veldora paused, letting the words settle. Then Takumi added something more personal. "There were quiet moments too. I missed my family when work kept me away. We would call each other and share meals over video, even if we were far apart. Malaysia taught me that home is not only a place but the people and flavors that connect you. Yet now, sitting here with all of you, I realize Tempest has become my true home. The bond we share feels even stronger than anything from my past."

A gentle silence followed. Shuna reached out and lightly touched the table as if to steady her emotions. "Takumi, thank you for trusting us with these memories. I will study more recipes and make them exactly as you remember. Perhaps we can create a small Malaysian corner in our kitchen so everyone in Tempest can taste a piece of your old world."

Gobta nodded eagerly. "Yes! I will help taste everything. For research!"

Ramiris laughed brightly. "And I will help decorate it with pretty lights like the night markets!"

Rimuru looked at Veldora with deep understanding. "Takumi, your words remind me of my own journey. We all carry pieces of where we came from. Sharing them makes us stronger together."

At that moment, Takumi focused his will through the evolved skill. A soft glow appeared above the table. Using Otaku Art Creation Techniques and the infinite energy of Faust, he shaped a gentle, living image. It was not a full illusion but a warm, sensory memory made visible: a quiet Malaysian street at dusk, with the golden light of street lamps, the faint sound of laughter, and the aroma of fresh Satay drifting through the air. The group could feel the gentle evening breeze and hear the distant call of evening prayers mixed with cheerful voices.

"See?" Takumi said through Veldora. "This is one evening I remember clearly. Simple, yet full of life."

The vision lasted only a minute, yet it left everyone touched. Veldora opened his eyes and smiled with quiet pride. "Takumi's power allows us to experience his past without leaving Tempest. This is the beauty of our partnership."

Shuna's eyes shone with happy tears she quickly blinked away. "It feels real. The love you put into these memories is beautiful. We will honor them by making more dishes and perhaps even a small festival one day."

The group lingered a while longer, asking gentle questions and sharing their own small stories. Gobta wanted to know about the games Takumi played late at night. Ramiris asked about the bright towers in the city. Rimuru listened with the wisdom of one who understood the weight of leaving one world for another.

As the shared vision faded, Takumi spoke once more. "Thank you for listening. These memories no longer feel distant. They feel like gifts I can now give to all of you."

Veldora placed a steady hand on the table, his mature voice warm with brotherly affection. "And we receive them gladly, my friend. Together, we weave the best of every world into our own."

Outside the window, the federation continued its peaceful rhythm. Yet inside this room, a deeper bond had formed. Takumi's Malaysian memories had crossed the divide between lives, bringing color, flavor, and quiet joy to Tempest. The political challenges in the west remained, but moments like this reminded everyone why they fought to protect their home.
