Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Voice Inside Her

Chapter 1: The Voice Inside Her

Cold.

That was the first thing she felt.

Not pain. Not fear. Just cold.

Feng Ruanxi's eyes opened slowly.

The light above her was too bright. She blinked again and again before her vision cleared.

White ceiling.

White walls.

A hospital.

Her fingers moved slightly under the blanket. Everything felt unfamiliar, as if her body did not belong to her.

"Miss Feng?"

A soft voice came from beside her.

She turned her head slowly. A nurse stood there, relief written all over her face.

"You're awake. Can you hear me?"

Feng Ruanxi looked at her.

Feng.

Was that her name?

Her lips parted, dry and unsure.

"Who am I?"

The nurse paused for a moment, then smiled gently.

"Your name is Feng Ruanxi. You had an accident. You've been unconscious for three days."

Feng Ruanxi.

The name felt distant.

Like it belonged to someone else.

Three days.

An accident.

No memories.

Nothing.

Her gaze dropped to her hands.

They looked normal.

Too normal.

Slowly, her fingers curled.

Something felt wrong.

Not outside.

Inside.

You're awake.

Her breath hitched.

The voice was soft.

But it did not belong to the nurse.

Feng Ruanxi looked around quickly.

"Did you say something?"

The nurse shook her head. "No."

Silence.

Of course she didn't.

Her heart began to race.

"Who's there?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The nurse frowned slightly. "There's no one else here."

Pathetic.

The word struck sharply.

Cold and unfamiliar.

Feng Ruanxi gripped the bedsheet.

"No… someone is here…"

The door opened.

A man walked in.

The atmosphere changed instantly.

He was tall, dressed in black, his presence calm yet heavy. It felt as if the entire room shifted the moment he stepped inside.

The nurse straightened immediately.

"Mr. Feng."

Feng.

Feng Ruanxi lifted her gaze to him.

Their eyes met.

Something inside her stirred.

She could not understand it, but it felt important.

"Leave us," he said.

His voice was low and steady.

The nurse nodded and quickly left the room. The door closed behind her.

Silence filled the space.

He walked toward her.

Slow.

Controlled.

Her heartbeat quickened.

It was not fear.

Not exactly.

He stopped beside her bed and looked down at her, as if searching for something.

"Do you remember me?" he asked.

Feng Ruanxi shook her head slowly.

"No."

A flicker passed through his eyes before disappearing.

"I see."

The silence grew heavier.

"You're my wife," he said.

Her mind went blank.

"What?"

"You are Feng Ruanxi," he continued. "And you are married to me."

Her chest tightened.

It did not feel real.

"Your name?" she asked quietly.

He looked at her carefully.

"Feng Chen."

Her husband.

A stranger.

Something felt wrong.

She could not explain why.

Liar.

Her breath caught.

The voice again.

Sharper this time.

He's lying to you.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

"Why would he lie?" she whispered without thinking.

Feng Chen's gaze sharpened immediately.

"What did you say?"

She froze.

"Nothing."

He continued to watch her closely, as if trying to read something hidden beneath the surface.

Careful, the voice murmured.

He is dangerous.

Feng Ruanxi's heart pounded.

"Who are you?" she asked silently.

A brief pause followed.

Then the answer came.

I'm you.

She stopped breathing for a moment.

The part of you that survived.

Her vision blurred slightly.

"No…" she whispered.

But deep inside, it did not feel like a lie.

Feng Chen reached out and gently lifted her chin.

His touch was soft.

Yet firm.

"Rest," he said quietly.

His thumb brushed lightly against her skin.

"I will take care of everything."

Her heart skipped.

Of course he will, the voice said softly.

Men like him always think they are in control.

Feng Chen turned and walked toward the door. He paused.

"Ruanxi."

She looked at him.

"If anything feels strange," he said, "tell me."

The door opened.

"Everything will be fine."

Then he left.

The room fell silent once more.

But this time, Feng Ruanxi was not alone.

He's lying to you, the voice whispered.

She stared at the closed door, her fear slowly fading.

"Then tell me the truth," she murmured.

Silence.

Then a soft reply came.

You're not just his wife.

Her fingers tightened against the sheets.

You are the reason people like him exist.

Her heart stopped.

And when you remember…

A pause.

Everything will burn.

End of Chapter 1.
