BRIAN~
Ten Years Ago
I was assigned to Audrey right after she got into college—just after the quiet settlement surrounding the Gerald incident. She was seventeen years old.
Calm and collected, she kept entirely to herself. To the rest of the campus, she seemed like any ordinary student who preferred her own company. She did basketball on Wednesdays and Fridays, attended extra art classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and hit the gym every single day for an hour.
On Mondays and Sundays, however, she either stayed indoors or ventured into places no teenager had any business being.
My team and I compiled weekly reports, sending every detail directly to the president, her grandfather.
It took a full year before she became hyper-aware of our presence. She'd glance our way, but she never dared approach us. And we kept our distance.
Until one Thursday.
