Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Return to Shimotsuki Village

The sea felt quieter near East Blue's edge.

Not peaceful.

Just familiar in a way that made silence heavier.

"…It's been five years," Carina muttered, leaning on the railing. "If my memory is correct, that's long enough for people to forget we exist."

Kuina didn't look away from the horizon.

"Some people don't forget."

Tashigi adjusted her glasses slightly, staring at the approaching coastline.

"…I don't think he will."

Kevin stood at the front of the ship.

Quiet.

Not distant like before.

Just… focused.

"…Coordinates match," he said after a moment. "Shimotsuki Village is ahead."

Carina squinted at him.

"…You said that like you're about to walk into a lab."

Kevin blinked.

Then, after a pause—

"…No. It feels more like… returning something."

That made Kuina glance at him.

Longer than usual.

The ship touched shore without ceremony.

No fanfare.

No announcement.

Just wood scraping against quiet land.

Shimotsuki Village hadn't changed much.

But they had.

The moment Kuina stepped off the ship, the wind felt different.

Not stronger.

Just… remembered.

"…Smells the same," she said softly.

Tashigi followed behind her, looking around carefully.

"…So this is where you grew up…"

Her voice was quieter than usual.

Almost careful.

Carina stretched her arms.

"Great. A calm place usually means someone strong is about to ruin it."

Kevin stepped onto the dock last.

He stopped.

For a second.

Just looking.

"…This place…"

Then softly:

"…Feels important."

They walked.

The path to the dojo was the same dirt road.

Same trees.

Same quiet pressure in the air, like the village itself was watching them pass.

And then—

The dojo.

Wooden structure.

Simple.

Strong.

Kuina stopped at the entrance.

Her hand tightened slightly on her sword.

"…We're home."

But it didn't sound like relief.

It sounded like confrontation.

The door slid open.

And the man inside looked up.

Koshiro Shimotsuki

For a moment—

Silence.

His eyes moved across them slowly.

Kuina.

Carina.

Kevin.

Then—

Tashigi.

He paused slightly longer on her.

"…I don't recognize you," he said calmly.

Tashigi stepped forward half a step and bowed.

"…Tashigi. I've been traveling with Kuina for five years."

Koshiro studied her.

Not unkindly.

Just deeply.

"…Your stance is disciplined."

Tashigi blinked slightly.

"…Thank you, sir."

Kuina glanced at her.

Same expression.

Same moment of recognition forming quietly between them.

Tashigi and Kuina both had the same subtle reaction:

He's… strong.

Not aggressive.

Not loud.

Just undeniable.

Carina leaned toward Kuina.

"…Okay I don't like that both of you just did the same serious face at the same time."

Kuina didn't answer.

Tashigi didn't either.

Same posture.

Same focus.

Same quiet respect forming instantly.

Koshiro's gaze moved on.

To Kevin.

"…You are different."

Kevin didn't deny it.

"…Yes."

A pause.

"…But I'm still me."

Carina immediately leaned toward Kuina again.

"…That's new. That sounded like a person."

Kuina ignored her.

Koshiro stepped back slightly.

"…Come inside."

No hesitation.

No resistance.

Just acceptance.

Inside the dojo, the air felt heavier.

Not oppressive.

Just meaningful.

Koshiro turned slightly toward Tashigi.

"…Show me your stance."

Tashigi hesitated only for a moment.

Then she drew a wooden practice sword.

Her posture settled instantly.

Clean.

Controlled.

Precise.

Kuina watched her.

Same reaction again.

Same quiet approval forming between them.

Koshiro nodded once.

"…Good foundation."

Tashigi exhaled softly.

"…Thank you."

Kuina added quietly, almost identical tone:

"…You improved."

They paused after speaking.

Looked at each other for a second.

Same thought again:

We really trained under the same idea…

Koshiro's attention shifted again.

"…And you?" he asked Kevin.

Kevin looked at the floor.

Then the weapons on the wall.

Then at them.

"…I learned that strength without direction becomes waste."

A pause.

"…Now I try to choose direction first."

Silence.

Kuina's grip tightened slightly—but not in tension.

In understanding.

Tashigi mirrored it.

Same reaction.

Same calm acceptance.

Koshiro closed his eyes briefly.

"…Then you are no longer wandering."

He opened them again.

"…You are becoming something."

Outside, the wind moved through Shimotsuki Village.

But something had changed.

Not the place.

Them.

Kevin stepped out later, looking at the sky.

Carina followed.

"…So?"

He thought for a moment.

Then:

"…This place feels like a beginning."

Carina smirked.

"…That's dangerously poetic. Are you okay?"

Kevin glanced at her.

"…I think so."

Behind them, Kuina and Tashigi stood near the dojo entrance.

Same posture.

Same direction.

Same expression.

Kuina spoke first.

"…He's strong."

Tashigi nodded.

"…Yes."

A pause.

Kuina added:

"…But not someone to fear."

Tashigi agreed softly:

"…Someone to learn from."

They looked at each other again.

Same silent conclusion.

Same understanding.

And for the first time in five years—

Shimotsuki Village wasn't their destination.

It was proof.

That they had already become something else.

Something real.

Something ready.
