The first thing Cassy noticed about Garcia Enterprises was how cold it felt. Not physically—but emotionally. The building towered above the city like a giant made of glass and steel. Inside, everything was polished, perfect, and quiet. Too quiet.
Cassy clutched her bag as she stepped into the elevator, her heart pounding loudly in her chest. "Relax," she whispered to herself, forcing a small smile. "You can do this."
The elevator doors opened on the top floor. And that's when everything changed. The atmosphere was different here—heavier, sharper, like the air itself demanded perfection.
"Miss Williams?" Cassy turned to see a well-dressed man approaching her. "I'm Adrian Cruz," he said with a friendly grin. "The only nice person you'll meet on this floor."
Cassy blinked, then laughed softly. "That's… comforting."
"Don't worry," Adrian added. "You'll survive. Maybe."
"Maybe?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow.
Before Adrian could answer, the large office doors at the end of the hallway suddenly opened. And he walked out.
Caleb Garcia.
Everything about him commanded attention—the way he moved, the way people instantly went silent, the way his presence alone seemed to lower the temperature of the room.
Cassy froze. He was… breathtaking.
Tall, perfectly dressed in a black suit, his expression unreadable. His sharp eyes scanned the hallway—and then landed on her.
For a moment, time stopped. Cassy felt her heart skip. Not in romance. But in warning. Those eyes held nothing. No warmth. No curiosity. Just cold indifference.
"Who is she?" Caleb asked, his voice low and firm.
Adrian smirked slightly. "Your new secretary."
Caleb's gaze stayed on Cassy for a few seconds longer. Judging. Measuring. Dismissing.
"She won't last."
The words hit harder than they should have. Cassy blinked, her fingers tightening around her bag. But instead of shrinking— She smiled. Bright. Gentle. Unshaken.
"Well," she said softly, meeting his gaze, "I guess we'll find out."
For the first time, something flickered in Caleb's eyes. Not warmth. Not interest. But something unfamiliar. Surprise. He turned away without another word, walking back into his office. The door closed behind him.
And just like that— Cassy Williams stepped into a world where hearts were guarded…
And love was the most dangerous risk of all.
