Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Between Hours

The work did not end.

It only paused.

"…That should be everything for now."

Jude leaned back slightly, eyes scanning the now-ordered stacks.

"…Feels strange seeing it this clean."

Lunivara adjusted the edge of the final document.

"…It is only temporary."

Her tone was calm. Certain.

Jude let out a short breath, half amused.

"…I'll take temporary over chaos."

A quiet pause settled between them.

Not awkward.

Just… complete.

Then—

"Dong—"

The bell echoed through the halls.

Jude glanced toward the door.

"…Class."

Lunivara straightened.

"…Understood."

They stepped out together.

Not close.

Not distant.

The hallway was already filling.

Voices layered over each other.

Movement returning all at once.

Jude slowed slightly.

"…You go ahead. I'll return something first."

Lunivara gave a small nod.

"…Then I will proceed."

"…See you later."

A simple phrase.

Casual.

Lunivara paused—just for a moment.

"…Yes."

Then she walked on.

The academy felt different again.

But not like before.

"…She's been going to the sword club…"

"…Is that allowed?"

"…Why her…?"

The whispers remained.

But softer now.

Less certain.

Lunivara passed them without reaction.

[They are no longer sure.]

She entered the classroom.

The noise dimmed slightly.

Not silence—

but awareness.

A chair shifted beside her.

"Slide—"

"…Good afternoon."

Velarisse's voice was gentle, as always.

Lunivara turned slightly.

"…Good afternoon."

A brief pause.

Velarisse's fingers tightened faintly against her sleeve.

"…You've been busy."

"…With assigned tasks."

"…At the sword club?"

Velarisse asked it carefully.

Not accusing.

But attentive.

"…Yes."

Another pause.

This one longer.

Velarisse lowered her gaze for a moment.

"…That place is usually difficult to enter."

"…I was instructed to assist."

Lunivara's tone remained even.

Unchanged.

Velarisse looked at her again.

This time more directly.

"…I see."

But the words felt unfinished.

The lesson began soon after.

Voices shifted into structure.

Order returned.

Time passed.

Quietly.

Until—

"…You've changed."

Velarisse spoke again, softer this time.

Lunivara's hand paused over her notes.

Just slightly.

"…In what way?"

Velarisse hesitated.

Searching.

"…I don't know yet."

She gave a faint, uncertain smile.

"…But it feels different."

Lunivara looked forward again.

[She cannot define it.]

"…Then there is nothing to confirm."

Velarisse didn't argue.

But she didn't agree either.

"…Maybe."

The conversation ended there.

But the feeling did not.

"Dong—"

The bell rang again.

Students began to move.

Chairs shifting.

Voices returning.

Lunivara stood.

Calm.

Composed.

As she stepped into the hallway—

she noticed him immediately.

Leaning lightly against the wall.

"…You're done."

Jude straightened as he saw her.

"…Yes."

"…Good."

He pushed off the wall, adjusting his sleeve.

"…There's another stack waiting."

A small pause—

"…Not as bad as earlier."

Lunivara met his gaze briefly.

"…Understood."

Jude smiled slightly.

Easy.

Unforced.

"…You really don't complain, do you?"

"…There is no reason to."

"…Still sounds like a problem."

A faint pause.

"…Perhaps."

Jude let out a quiet breath, almost a laugh.

"…Alright. Come on."

This time—

they walked together.

Not by chance.

Not by instruction.

But because—

it was starting to feel natural.
