Chapter 1 - A Disagreement

A conversation recorded between Himeko d'Orien and Bryles d'Kunarak, after STEEM had escaped from the Dreadhold

"Bree, we've known each other for over a decade now, and right now is the closest I've come to punching you in the face."Himeko felt her arcane arm tingle like it always did when she got emotional, her face flushed as she tried to stifle her anger.Bree, a female dwarf of House Kundarak looked up from the massive Khyber crystal she had acquired thanks to Himekos friends and their efforts. The deep blue crystal was... perfect. Himeko had never seen such an immaculate crystal, at least not until she had paid a visit to Bree after she had left STEEM to fend for themselves in the most guarded prison on Khorvaire, the Dreadhold.

"You friends are some of the most powerful adventurer's I've inducted into the Wayfinders guild." Bree replied matter-of-factually, "I had no doubt they would figure out the Dreadhold and continue on their 'noble quest'."

Bree waved her hand dismissively, like what STEEM was doing wasn't of grave import to all of Eberron. While Himekos friends had gone to Bree for a favor, to find someone inside of the Dreadhold, Bree had used them as a distraction to have her own agents steal the dragonshard inside the Dreadhold mines from her own house and closed off the exit STEEM had planned on using. Bree did it to "cover her tracks" but such a back handed way of helping and exploiting STEEM made Himeko feel betrayed by a supposed friend she had for years.

"Bryles," Himeko replied, using her offical Kundarak name, " the Last War has started again, with Sharne and everyone in it wiped out by some monstrosity recreating the Mourning, which is currently flying across Khorvaire. STEEMs 'quest' is to stop that thing. And all the while you only seem to care about your station in House Kundarak!"

"Yes!" Bree snapped, catching Himeko off guard " This isn't the first world ending event Khorvaire has faced, and it won't be the last that some random group of heroes will inevitably rise up and save us all!"

Himekos face nearly matched her crimson hair as sparks dispersed from her arcane arm, it took all of her will power to not switch the arm to its cannon mode.

The two stared daggers at each other, before Bree reached for the amulet across her chest, an amulet Himeko had helped restore and could summon an ancient and powerful Kundarak golem.

"... that Siberys crystal changed you Bree, which I'll remind you STEEM also helped you acquire. The Bree I knew would never use bodies to climb dragonmarked house ladders".

Bree broke her stare with Himeko, hand still on the amulet as the other once again reached for the Khyber dragonshard in the container next to her.

"Himeko, if you only came here to guilt trip me, then our business is concluded. Get out before I force you out."

Himeko stood there for a moment, Bryles not meeting her gaze, before turning around in a huff. As she closed the door, Himeko turned back to her once friend.

"Thank you for providing the mythril plating for the sky rail, I do not foresee any further cooperation in our future... Bryles."

The doors frame was knocked off center as Himeko slammed it with her arcane arm.
