Chapter 217 - Chapter 217: Kneel and Advance

The ruined square of Seireitei lay steeped in the smell of blood and scorched stone.

Broken ground, shattered walls, and fallen captains formed a silent testament to overwhelming defeat.

At the center of it all stood Uchiha Tobirama.

Nearby, Soi Fon knelt motionless, her posture rigid and unnatural, eyes empty yet obedient. The sight alone sent a chill through every remaining onlooker.

In the distance, Kyoraku Shunsui and Hitsugaya Toshiro stared in disbelief, hands trembling around their swords. Their confidence—no, their understanding of the world—had been utterly crushed.

Shunpo cracked through the air.

Two figures arrived at last, landing amid the devastation.

Vice-Captain Matsumoto Rangiku and Vice-Captain Hinamori Momo.

The moment their feet touched the ground, both froze.

Rangiku's breath hitched.

Momo's mind went blank.

Around them lay scenes no nightmare could have prepared them for—fallen captains, obliterated bodies, and spiritual pressure so dense it felt like the world itself was pressing down on their chests.

And then—

Their eyes found Soi Fon.

The unyielding commander of the Onmitsukidō, kneeling.

"Captain… Soi Fon…?" Momo whispered, disbelief shattering her voice.

Something inside her snapped.

Tears streamed down her face as she drew her Zanpakutō.

"You monster!" she screamed, reason consumed by grief and terror. "What did you do to them?!"

Before anyone could stop her, Momo charged.

"Bloom—Tobiume!"

Pink flames surged forward, carrying her despair and rage straight toward Tobirama.

"Momo, stop! Come back!" Rangiku and Hitsugaya shouted in unison.

Too late.

Tobirama did not move.

His gaze alone fell upon her.

"Insignificant."

A crushing force descended.

The flames were erased instantly, snuffed out as if they had never existed. Momo was slammed from the air and driven into the stone with terrifying force.

The ground cracked.

When the pressure lifted, she lay broken and bleeding, barely conscious, her spiritual energy in chaos.

"Momo!" Rangiku cried out, collapsing to her knees beside her.

Despair wrapped tightly around her heart.

Tobirama's attention shifted.

His eyes settled on Rangiku.

"Do you want her to live?" he asked calmly.

Rangiku looked up sharply, hope and terror colliding in her eyes.

"You… you can save her?"

"There is nothing beyond my capability."

Light gathered in Tobirama's hand—pure vitality, steady and overwhelming. At its mere presence, Momo's ragged breathing eased.

"Please," Rangiku begged, tears spilling freely. "Save her. I'll do anything."

"Anything?"

The light faded as Tobirama lowered his hand.

"Then discard your weapon," he said. "And advance."

Rangiku trembled.

She glanced at Momo—pale, broken, clinging to life by a thread.

Her decision was made.

With shaking hands, she removed Haineko and let it fall to the ground.

Under Hitsugaya's horrified gaze, Rangiku lowered herself to her knees and moved forward, each motion heavy with humiliation and resolve.

She stopped before Tobirama and bowed her head.

"I'm here," she said, voice unsteady. "Please… keep your word."

For a brief moment, Tobirama studied her.

"Your resolve is accepted."

He turned, extending his power toward Momo.

But before the life force could be released—

The sky changed.

The heavens burned crimson.

An unbearable heat erupted across Seireitei, warping the air itself. Ruins ignited. Moisture vanished in an instant.

Kyoraku looked up, awe and relief crashing over him.

"That pressure… that heat…"

Tread.

Tread.

Tread.

An old figure emerged through the flames.

The Captain-Commander.

Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni.

Bare-chested, scarred, eyes blazing with fury older than the Soul Society itself.

He surveyed the battlefield—fallen captains, shattered bodies, kneeling subordinates.

And then his gaze locked onto Tobirama.

"Unforgivable," Yamamoto roared, his voice shaking the heavens.

He cast aside his cane.

Steel rang as his Zanpakutō was drawn.

"All things in the universe," he intoned, flames surging to life, "turn to ashes."

"Ryūjin Jakka."

The strongest fire of the Shinigami erupted skyward, igniting the heavens as the final battle was about to begin.
