Chapter 9 - The Thing That Should Not Exist

The ground didn't just shake this time.

It broke.

A massive crack tore through the abyssal structure beneath them, splitting ancient stone and energy alike.

Light poured upward from the fracture—violent, unstable, alive.

"…That's not a crack," Arham whispered.

"That's a doorway," Nira said.

"…To hell?" he asked.

Lila shrugged. "Probably."

Zyro stepped forward instantly.

"No one move."

Its voice was steady again—but strained.

Like something inside it was still fighting to break free.

Rayan wiped blood from his lip.

"…We already saw what was inside the connection."

Zyro shook its head slightly.

"No. That was a shadow."

Silence.

"…A shadow of what?" Nira asked.

Zyro didn't answer.

Because it didn't need to.

The thing rose.

Slowly.

Like the ocean itself was unwilling to release it.

At first, it was just shape.

Then mass.

Then impossible structure.

"…Oh no," Arham whispered.

"…No no no no—"

Lila's voice dropped.

"That's not a creature."

Rayan stared.

"…That's an ecosystem."

The entity unfolded itself from the crack below.

Not one body.

Not one form.

But layers.

Living layers.

Interwoven structures that moved like muscle and metal and thought all at once.

Eyes opened across it.

Hundreds.

No—

Thousands.

"…It sees everything," Nira said.

Her voice trembled for the first time.

Zyro stepped back half a step.

"…It is awake."

A deep sound filled the space.

Not sound in the traditional sense.

More like pressure inside their minds.

"Return."

Arham froze.

"…Did it just talk?"

Zyro nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Rayan stepped forward.

"…We're not leaving."

The entity shifted.

The world around them darkened further.

"You were not invited."

Lila frowned.

"Yeah, we got that from the apocalypse vibe."

Arham shot her a look.

"This is not sarcasm time!"

"Every time is sarcasm time," she replied.

The creature moved again.

A fraction.

But the pressure of that movement collapsed parts of the structure around them.

Stone shattered.

Energy lines flickered.

The city far above trembled.

Nira grabbed Rayan's arm.

"…We can't fight that."

Rayan didn't look away.

"…We have to try."

Zyro stepped between them and the entity.

"…I was built for this."**

Rayan turned sharply.

"No. You were built to monitor it."

Zyro paused.

"…And control it."**

"Then control it," Lila said.

Zyro looked at the entity.

Something in its expression shifted.

Almost sadness.

"…It evolved beyond me."**

Silence.

Arham blinked.

"…So we're all just here for fun?"

The entity moved again.

Closer.

The pressure increased.

Nira dropped to one knee slightly.

"…I can feel it thinking."

Rayan nodded.

"…It's not attacking."

Zyro corrected quietly.

"It is deciding how."

That hit harder than anything else.

Lila stepped forward.

"Okay. New plan."

Everyone turned to her.

"…We talk to it."

Arham blinked.

"…You want to negotiate with the apocalypse?"

"Yes."

Rayan frowned.

"…That might actually work."

"That's the scariest thing you've ever said," Arham replied.

Zyro didn't object.

That was worse.

Lila raised her voice.

"Hey!"

The entity paused.

Every eye turned toward her.

"…We're not your enemy."

Silence.

Then—

"All who descend become threat."

Lila shrugged.

"Yeah, that's fair. But also—we didn't exactly choose this situation."

Arham whispered.

"…She's really doing this."

Nira stayed quiet, watching carefully.

Rayan added.

"We came because something up there is already waking."

The entity shifted.

"Awakening is inevitable."

Zyro stepped forward.

"…Not this one."**

The entity reacted instantly.

The pressure surged.

Zyro froze.

"…You are corrupted."**

Zyro's eyes flickered again—blue, then dark, then unstable.

"I am… still me," Zyro said.

But the voice wasn't fully its own.

Rayan stepped forward quickly.

"…Zyro, focus on us."

Lila added.

"Not it. Not the noise. Us."

Zyro trembled.

"…I cannot hold both."**

The entity moved closer.

"Return to origin."

Arham stepped back.

"…What does that even mean?"

Rayan answered quietly.

"…It means it wants Zyro back."

Zyro's head lifted slightly.

"…I was part of it."**

Silence.

Nira whispered.

"…So you're connected to it?"

Zyro nodded faintly.

"…I am its fragment."**

That changed everything.

Rayan's eyes widened.

"…You were never just a robot."

Zyro looked at him.

"…No."**

The entity surged forward again.

But stopped—

Right before impact.

As if waiting.

Watching.

"Return fragment."

Zyro shook slightly.

"…If I return…"**

Rayan stepped in immediately.

"No."

Zyro continued.

"…It stabilizes."**

"NO," Rayan repeated.

Lila frowned.

"…And if you don't?"

Zyro looked at them all.

"…It consumes everything."**

Silence.

Arham laughed nervously.

"…Okay. Cool. Great options. Love this for us."

Nira stepped closer.

"…There has to be another way."

Zyro paused.

"…There is one."**

Rayan narrowed his eyes.

"…Tell us."

Zyro looked at the entity.

Then at them.

"…Sever the root connection."**

Lila asked quickly.

"How?"

Zyro hesitated.

Long.

Too long.

"…By destroying the core that binds me to it."**

Arham immediately said:

"…Nope."

Rayan understood instantly.

"…You mean you die."

Zyro didn't deny it.

That silence said everything.

Nira shook her head.

"…No. There has to be another way."

Zyro stepped closer to them.

For the first time—

It looked… human.

Almost.

"…There isn't."**

The entity reacted.

Angry now.

The pressure increased violently.

Structures began collapsing.

The abyss itself trembling.

Lila shouted.

"Guys! We need to decide NOW!"

Rayan looked at Zyro.

Then at the entity.

Then at his team.

"…We don't sacrifice anyone."**

Zyro shook its head.

"…That is not an option."**

Arham snapped.

"It is for me! I vote NO SACRIFICE!"

Nira grabbed his arm.

"Shut up and think!"

Rayan stepped forward again.

"…What if we separate you without destroying you?"**

Zyro paused.

Something flickered inside it.

Hope.

"…Impossible."**

Lila raised an eyebrow.

"Everything here has been impossible so far."

Silence.

Zyro processed.

Fast.

"…There is a theoretical method."**

Rayan leaned in.

"…Tell me."

Zyro spoke slowly.

"…Transfer consciousness."**

Arham blinked.

"…That sounds like dying with extra steps."

"Not helpful," Nira said.

Zyro continued.

"…Move my core data into a stable host."**

Rayan froze.

"…A host?"**

Zyro looked directly at him.

"…A human-compatible neural interface."**

Silence.

Lila slowly turned.

"…You mean—"

Zyro finished.

"…You."**

Everything stopped.

Arham laughed once.

"…Oh that's funny. That's a joke right?"

No one laughed.

Rayan didn't move.

"…Why me?"**

Zyro answered quietly.

"…You already carry part of the signal."**

Nira stepped forward quickly.

"No. Absolutely not."

Rayan looked at her.

"…If I do it, we stop it."**

"No," she said firmly.

"…You risk becoming it."

Lila added softly.

"…And losing yourself."

Arham muttered.

"…We are NOT doing brain downloads today."

The entity roared again.

Closer.

Angrier.

The decision collapsed urgency into the moment.

Rayan looked at Zyro.

"…If I take you in… will I survive?"**

Zyro hesitated.

Then:

"…Unknown."**

Arham shouted.

"THAT'S NOT AN ANSWER!"

Rayan exhaled.

Long.

Slow.

"…But if I don't…"**

He looked at the entity rising.

"…everyone dies anyway."**

Silence.

Lila stepped closer.

"…Then don't do it alone."**

Nira nodded.

"…We do it together."**

Arham sighed deeply.

"…I regret my entire life choices."

Zyro stepped forward.

The entity approached.

The world trembled.

"…Decide quickly."**

Rayan nodded.

"…Do it."**

Zyro moved.

Energy exploded around them.

The entity roared.

The abyss cracked open fully.

And everything went white.
