The Stars Beyond Her Eyes
They say he waits there even now—watching the endless night sky, searching the stars for the return of the wife he lost long ago.
Some believe it is nothing more than a fairytale told to children.
Others say the stars themselves still remember.
Little me stared at my mother in disbelief.
The story sounded impossible to me—like a distant dream that could never exist in the real world.
"And thus, the story is yet to be finished— Did u like the story,Zephyra?"
My mom said with a soft spoken tone.
I tilted my head slightly, curiosity burning in my chest.
"Mom… did King Hkxilen really love Xephe that much?"
I hesitated before asking the next question.
"And… did the Five Gods really exist?"
My mother smiled softly, though there was something
thoughtful in her eyes as she looked up toward the night sky outside the window.
"Who knows?" she said gently.
Then she shrugged with a quiet laugh.
"But personally…"
She looked back at me.
"I think they did."
Years later, I turned seventeen,I became one of the top students in the lunar academy of knowledge.Along with my best friend Solmira.
In the academy we studied magic that allowed us to sense distant stars and hidden celestial energy.
Each lesson where we had to demonstrate our skills on unsealing ancient texts and translating magical circles I usually struggled with— but not Solmira.
She was excellent at it,dealing with them all as if it were a piece of cake.this time was no exception.
Professor Aetherion entered the class room and raised his staff.
''Good morning class, today I want you all to try and translate a few very ancient scripted texts—which in actual truth are of the few that the ancient god phfyro wrote.
He said with a mysterious cat-like grin on his face.
''Of course it's just a copy but I'm sure you'll get a hang of it"
He said with a smile slightly tilting his head.
" Anyways, you shall begin"
Solmira got a hang of all three scripts within ten minutes—while I got stuck with the first letters for nearly twenty minutes.
"Times over, I shall pick niw each one of you one by one"
Said professor Aethereon.
"Zephyra ur first"
I was surprised and started feeling anxious since I only managed to translate one.
I stood up and went to the desk to show the one that I translated—then professor asked what the text meant.
'' it means,O' great fire— head my words and obey my orders"
It may seem short and easy, however, these texts are usually written in very old letters and in case to translate them it needs careful observation and research.
" great job zephyra, you get 4 points to ur score since you only done one."
I returned to my seat—and the teachers calls out for Solmira.
She takes all three texts and puts them in order and starts spelling out the words.
''O' great fire, head my words, and obey my orders, for shall I guide you—show u your path, and the endless path u shall follow."
As always, she was excellent in every way in this class.
"Amazing work solmira,I give you 10 points"
Solmira goes back to her sit and grins at me laughingly.
The bell rings for break time. Me and solmira pack our stuff and go outside to walk around the school. As we were walking we were passsing by the statue of the all loving moon goddess Xephe.
Solmira ran to walk in front of me—she looks at me with a mysterious grin.
''Did you know?" Solmira said.
"they say she was a student here,in our school."
The sun moved slightly lighting behind the statue.
"The legend says that she sacrificed herself for her people. Leaving her husband behind. She And the other 4 gods performed a ritual to save this world from demons"
"Don't you think that's kinda…selfish? Sacrificing urself for some mortal land that will eventually forget about ur existence?".
She said while looking at the statue with a stone-resting face.
I thought to myself that Solmira sounded very poetic that moment.
"My mother used to tell me that she had no other choice,it's not like she wanted to abandon the king".
I responded with slight grief.
"Maybe.."
She replied with a cold voice, as she was turning around.
The wind moving through the statue courtyard.
I felt something strange while looking at the statue.
"Why did I feel like I felt this before?—probably just my imagination." I thought to myself.
