Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 The Night Everything change

The hall was filled with bright lights and loud applause.

Lina stood quietly in the corner, her heart full of pride. Tonight was supposed to be the happiest night of her life.

After years of struggle, Daniel, the man she had loved since university, had finally become successful. The company they built together from nothing was now worth millions.

She remembered the nights she stayed awake helping him refine business proposals, typing documents while he rested. The times she used her small savings to support him when investors rejected him one after another. She never complained. She only believed in him.

Because she believed in them.

Everything had finally paid off.

Lina smiled softly as Daniel walked onto the stage to address the guests.

But something felt strange.

He didn't look at her.

Not even once.

"Thank you all for coming tonight," Daniel said confidently into the microphone. "This success would not have been possible without someone very special."

Lina's heart began to race.

Her hands tightened slightly around her dress.

Was he… about to propose to her?

Whispers filled the hall. Guests clapped, smiling in anticipation.

Daniel slowly stretched his hand toward a beautiful woman standing beside him.

"I would like everyone to meet my fiancée," he announced. "Vanessa."

For a moment, Lina thought she had misheard him.

The world seemed to stop.

Fiancée?

That word echoed painfully in her mind.

Vanessa stepped forward gracefully, dressed in an expensive silver gown. She smiled like she belonged there—like she had always belonged there.

She gently wrapped her arm around Daniel.

The two of them looked perfect together.

Rich. Elegant. Powerful.

And Lina suddenly felt like a stranger in her own life.

Her breath grew shallow.

No… this couldn't be real.

Daniel's eyes finally met hers across the room.

But instead of guilt, there was only cold indifference.

"Some people are meant to stay in the past," he said calmly into the microphone. "And some people are meant for the future."

A soft wave of laughter passed through the guests.

Lina felt her chest tighten painfully.

Was he talking about her?

Memories flashed through her mind—starving days, unpaid bills, sleepless nights, all for this man.

And now… she was "the past"?

Her vision blurred slightly as tears gathered in her eyes.

"Daniel…" she whispered, but her voice was lost in the noise.

Vanessa leaned closer to him and smiled smugly, as if she already knew she had won.

Lina took a shaky step backward.

The applause continued.

The celebration continued.

But her world was falling apart.

Slowly, she turned toward the exit.

Every step felt heavier than the last, like she was walking away from her entire life.

As she reached the door, her vision suddenly blurred more intensely.

Her legs weakened.

The sound of laughter and music faded into a distant echo.

The last thing she saw before collapsing was a tall stranger stepping forward from the crowd.

And the way he looked at her was not pity.

It was something far more dangerous.

Interest.

Possession.

Like he had just found something he had been waiting for… for a very long time.
