Under heavy police lockdown, dozens of transport trucks sealed off the Gyosei Building right in the heart of Tokyo. All the detection machines were set up and running.

Armored tactical units poured out of the trucks, rifles in one hand, riot shields in the other, moving in tight, disciplined formation to surround the entire structure.

Inside the building, office workers watched the scene unfold and started muttering in shock.

"What the hell is this? Somebody staging a coup?"

While they were busy gossiping, the building's intercom crackled to life.

"Attention, this is an important announcement. Listen carefully. I'm Mizushima from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigations Division. A man armed with a shotgun has broken into the Gyosei Building and is believed to be hiding near the roof. All personnel, proceed immediately to the main lobby on the first floor."

The cops kept looping the message while tactical teams moved in to lock down every exit, making sure nobody slipped out.

Under Inspector Hirama's command, the heavily geared special units began clearing floor after floor.

Soon, a flood of civilians rode the elevators down to the lobby. The second they spotted the fully armed riot cops, every complaint died in their throats.

"This is the moment that counts," Fujita said inside the monitoring room, standing beside Shinichi Izumi and Ivan Greevs. "The fox in disguise is finally getting dragged into the hunting ground. Time to rip off the last of that mask."

Fujita looked cocky as hell, but Shinichi's face stayed dead serious. These elite tactical teams should handle regular parasites just fine. The only thing twisting his gut was Goto, that five-in-one freak.

He'd tangled with the bastard before. He knew exactly how fucking terrifying it was.

"Can't tell shit from the monitors alone," said the skinny criminal lounging in a chair. Uragami had a gaunt face, narrow eyes, and massive dark circles that made him look like he hadn't slept since birth.

There was a nasty, sleazy edge to every word that came out of his mouth. "Gotta say, you guys went all out. This shit looks like a goddamn war."

He glanced back at Shinichi and Ivan with a mocking sneer. "Not only calling in the army, but dragging in a murderer and some underage kid too. Real classy operation you got here."

"If all he's gonna do is spout useless bullshit, Officer Fujita, why don't we just put a bullet in his head and save everyone the headache," Ivan said flatly.

Fujita grabbed Uragami by the collar and yanked him back hard. "Shut your mouth. Not another word."

They brought Shinichi and Ivan over to the monitors next.

"See anything?" Fujita asked.

Ivan shook his head. "Nothing obvious."

Down in the building, groups of seven people at a time walked past the scanners under the watchful eyes of the security teams.

It didn't take long for Fujita to spot the problem. One of the women had a head that just wasn't sitting right.

"Got it. It's this one."

At Fujita's sharp order, several tactical officers yanked the woman out of the line. Her eyes darted around, panic flashing across her face. Right as she tensed to make a move, one cop pulled the trigger.

Not a pistol. An AA-12 full-auto combat shotgun with zero recoil.

The blast punched straight through her chest, blowing a fist-sized hole where her heart used to be. Blood sprayed out hot and dark, soaking the front of her clothes in seconds.

She stared down at the gaping wound, then her head twisted violently, bones cracking as it morphed into a jagged spike aimed straight at the cop. But with her heart shredded, the tentacles that whipped out had no real power behind them.

Blood gushed from her mouth in thick ropes. Her legs buckled and she staggered like a drunk, barely able to stand.

Bang!

Another officer fired. The woman's head exploded in a wet red mess. She dropped dead on the spot.

"Target neutralized," said the man watching from the tactical command room, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. A thick scar ran across his forehead. He was the overall commander of this fox-hunt operation, sitting higher than Fujita and with direct control over the entire security detail and tactical units.

"They don't die like normal people. They're machines run by devils. To stop the machine, you just wreck the motor. For a clean kill on the heart, area damage beats pinpoint penetration every time. That's why I issued the special lead slugs."

He spoke calmly, laying out the parasite's weakness like he was explaining the weather. "Toxins are still too slow."

He hadn't bothered taking Ivan' earlier suggestion.

The screening continued. More and more people filed through the detectors, but none of them set off any alarms.

"They all hiding now?" Fujita muttered, narrowing his eyes.

"Check on Mr. Hirokawa," Shinichi Izumi said suddenly. Tamiya Ryouko had mentioned the guy; odds were high he was one of them too.

"You sure about that intel?"

Shinichi shook his head, but Uragami leaned in with a lazy smirk. "Oh, he's definitely a parasite. No normal person stays that calm in this shitshow."

"I'll relay it upstairs right away."

Moments later, a squad of tactical officers marched straight up to Hirokawa Koushi and moved to pull him out of the crowd.

Hirokawa Koushi flat-out refused their order. That single move screamed he was wrong.

"Stall them. Don't let anyone leave." The scarred man lifted his phone and called Fujita. "Bring Uragami down here. Now."

Uragami's wrists were cuffed tight. He walked up to the detection machines at the Gyosei Building entrance, flanked by Fujita and the others.

Suddenly he jabbed a finger toward the crowd and roared, "There's a bunch of them right there!"

One guy bolted from the group the second he heard it.

He didn't make it two steps before a shotgun blast tore him apart.

"That guy…" Ivan narrowed his eyes. He could sense the parasites scattered in the crowd, but the poor bastard who just got turned into red mist wasn't one of them.

"Oopsie. Looks like you boys just smoked an innocent. One hundred percent dead now," Uragami said with a nasty little grin, clearly enjoying the fuck-up.

A middle-aged man stepped forward and started yelling at the tactical team.

"Kill him," Shinichi growled through clenched teeth.

The cops at the scanner hesitated after the wrong kill.

Big mistake.

The middle-aged man's head snapped sideways. A thick tentacle shot out like a whip, slicing clean across a cop's throat and smashing the detection machine to pieces in the same motion.

"Fuck! Waste him!"

The scarred commander in the command room snarled the order.

The parasite got hit by a full-auto burst and flew backward through the glass wall like a ragdoll, crashing outside in front of the crowd.

Pure panic exploded. Screams ripped through the lobby as the hidden parasites finally made their move.

Some of them immediately started tearing into the civilians to draw the cops' fire, while the rest broke toward the second floor.

Bang bang bang!

The incoming tactical units opened up on the ceiling first.

"Humans, get the fuck down!"

At the shout, every normal person dropped flat. The parasites still standing in the crowd didn't have time to react before the bullets turned them into bloody sieves.

"Listen up!" the scarred man barked, stepping forward with an assault rifle raised high. "If you think you're human, you stay flat on the ground and do exactly what we say."

Ivan stood there, "Putain… here we fucking go."
