"Four hundred and ninety-seven!"

"Four hundred and ninety-eight!"

"Four hundred and ninety-nine!"

"Five hundred!"

Shirokami counted silently. Upon reaching five hundred, his body gave a slight jolt. A wave of white light rose from his back, lifting the massive boulder off him and gently setting it down on the ground.

Crack! Pop!

Shirokami stood up and stretched his arms wide. Instantly, a series of crisp, rhythmic popping sounds erupted from his joints, echoing like a well-composed symphony.

"My physical constitution has definitely gotten stronger, but it's a shame I still lack the techniques to use it properly!"

"Though, if I join the Marines, I could learn the Rokushiki (Six Powers). Now that is some good stuff!"

"And then there's the hallmark of this world's true powerhouses—the three types of Haki! I really want to learn them, but unfortunately, practically no one in the first half of the Grand Line knows how to use them."

And right now, it seems I don't possess the strength to brave the New World. A random natural disaster there could easily take my life! Shirokami thought to himself.

"Whatever, what's the point of overthinking it? I should focus on developing my current abilities first."

"The Energy-Energy Fruit is a fantastic power. If I develop it properly, the results should be pretty amazing!"

"I've already roughly determined my path of development: amplifying my speed and physical power, much like Kizaru's light-speed kicks. As for my energy cannons and light wave attacks, those are mimicking that lone wolf from Bleach [Starrk's Cero]. It's my most frequently used method of attack so far!"

"And then there's my energy-wing flight mode. In a world completely covered by oceans, being able to fly is absolutely badass!"

"Phew. I'll just keep developing in this direction. The light cannons and energy waves, in particular, need to be my main focus!"

"If I keep at it, reaching Kizaru's level from the original story isn't just a pipe dream!"

As he spoke, pure white tentacles of energy suddenly sprouted from his back, lashing out and beginning to carve into the ground.

He figured that whenever he reached the point where carving intricate words into the solid earth felt as effortless and fluid as writing with a calligraphy brush, he would consider his training a success.

Screech!

Screech!

Screech!

Immediately, a series of sharp, ear-piercing shrieks rang out from the friction, causing Aki, who was standing a short distance behind him, to cover her ears and cry out in pain.

The sound instantly snapped Shirokami out of his focus, and he ceased his training.

"Sorry about that! Did I disturb you?"

Shirokami stood up, turning to give Aki an apologetic look.

"It's fine. It's my fault for interrupting your training!" Aki replied, her pretty face flushing red as she lowered her head.

"Uh..."

Seeing her shy reaction, Shirokami suddenly found himself at a complete loss for words. An awkward silence instantly fell over the air.

"Young hero, good morning!"

Just then, a somewhat aged voice called out from behind Shirokami, breaking the uncomfortable tension between him and Aki.

Shirokami quickly turned around to see the town's mayor strolling toward them.

"Morning, Mayor!" Shirokami greeted with a bright smile, secretly breathing a massive sigh of relief. The old man's timing was absolutely perfect.

"Forgive my presumptuousness in coming to see you so early in the morning, young hero. I have an unreasonable request, and I hope you might consider it!"

The mayor first offered a polite apology, his weathered face filled with a pleading expression.

Seeing the mayor's look, Shirokami could pretty much guess exactly what the old man was about to ask.

"Listen, Mayor... you should know that I can't stay here for long."

The moment those words left Shirokami's mouth, the hopeful light in the mayor's eyes dimmed significantly, replaced by a resigned expression of I knew it.
