Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

It's been more than a year since Yna Maria became heartbroken, but she still feels the fresh pain in her heart. She still can't move on. Even after being repeatedly told she's foolish, she still chooses to hope that one day Janus will return to her life.

From her first heartbreak, she changed. The once cheerful, loving, and kind daughter that the Cortes family had was gone. She was replaced by a drunkard and a stubborn child.

She had nothing else on her mind but to be a worthless woman. She often got drunk at her favorite bar. She lost count of how many times she had gotten into fights because drunk men in the bar disrespected her. This was also one of her parents' problems; their names were being tarnished in public, and what her daddy hated most was having to clean up the messes she made.

Jumari is tired of reminding her; all his words make no sense to her. His patience seemed to be wearing thin because instead of his daughter obeying him, nothing good was happening. Yna's rebellion only worsened.

Yna was coming down from her room when her daddy saw her. She hurried to walk so he wouldn't catch her.

"Where are you going, Yna?" he asked her. She stopped walking. She rolled her eyes in extreme annoyance; her father had caught her.

She faced her father. She knew he would be angry again, but she wanted to leave, so he couldn't stop her. "As usual, I want to go somewhere where I can relax, Dad."

"Are you going to the bar again?" he asked, gritting his teeth but trying to remain calm.

She smiled, "You're right, Dad. Can you please excuse me?" She adjusted her sling bag on her shoulder and was about to take a step when her father spoke again. She stopped and shook her head.

"Yna Maria, my daughter, I already told you to stop causing your life a mess. Do I have to repeat myself over and over again?" Her daddy approached her.

"I am not, Dad, I just want to make my day a meaningful one. Besides, I have nothing to do here." She smiled proudly at what she was about to do, as if going to the bar tonight was an achievement.

"Yna, I want you to become a responsible person as before. I want you to manage our company so you can do something right and meaningful. But how? You keep on doing nonsense stuff; instead of being a good person, you're acting like someone from the streets."

She just sneered and turned her back; she didn't want to listen to her Dad's sermons anymore. She didn't want to reach the point where they would argue again about that topic. She hates to have arguments because even she gets secretly hurt, but she pretends not to be affected.

"Yna, why are you doing this? You weren't like this before. Where is the old Yna Maria, my daughter?" Her daddy said sadly.

"The old Yna Maria you knew, Dad, won't be coming back. I'll go," she replied bitterly to her father.

"Please, stop hurting your mom and me, daughter."a

"Don't mind me, Dad, so you won't have any more problems. Bye."

She didn't let him stop her and immediately left the house.

Jumari just clasped his forehead. There was nothing he could do about his daughter's behavior, and it was also his fault. He spoon-fed all her wants; he gave her all luxurious things to spoil Yna. He also failed to limit her from doing things she shouldn't. So now, he blamed himself for his negligence as a father.

Yna went straight to the bar; she hadn't thought of anything else to do today besides arguing with her father. She really avoided talking about inheriting their company. She had no interest in business; her passion was writing novels and articles, but her Daddy didn't approve. She didn't want to jeopardize the business her parents worked hard for due to her potential negligence. She felt that her Business Management degree wasn't enough because she was afraid of doing business.

She immediately looked for an empty table. She chose one at the side, across from the dance floor. She paid for it to be exclusive to her. She didn't want to be disturbed while drinking and wallowing in her emotions.

A moment later, she ordered ten bottles of her favorite alcohol at the bar. She quickly got drunk, as she gulped down the contents of the bottles rapidly. She outdid even the street drunkards. Because of her drunkenness, she returned to her sentimental mood.

She couldn't believe he left her without a reason. She had hoped so much because he promised they would get married within this year, but he vanished like smoke.

She even hired a private investigator but still had no lead. So, she just stopped and started to move on, but it was incredibly difficult for her. Even her parents couldn't do anything to stop her madness.

Every time her dad scolded her, she rebelled even more because she didn't want to look pathetic in their eyes. She tried to go back to her old self, but she couldn't do it anymore. Her heart was always consumed by anger and sorrow.

She also didn't want to be a burden to her parents, but she couldn't do anything about it. She had already changed; all she thought about now was having fun in any way she knew how. She wanted to forget her problems and, most of all, Janus, her ex-boyfriend.

She was drinking too much; she had already consumed more than thirty bottles. She tried to stand up to dance but kept stumbling. She decided to just sit down and order another drink.

Her hair was now all over her face, making her look like a pitiable old woman. She kept wallowing in self-pity as she drank the alcohol in her hand. She couldn't stop herself. She drank more now compared to previous days.

All she thought about now was Janus; she wanted to see and talk to him. To hear his explanations, even if that was all, but there was no Janus to appear in the midst of her drunkenness. Before, he never allowed her to drink even a little, but now he was the reason why alcohol was the answer to all her problems.

She was already slumped over the table, punching it. She was going crazy from drunkenness. Even though there were many people in the bar, no one wanted to approach her because she looked so terrible. Her hair was all over her face, tangled and unkempt. They didn't care; it was her life, so she had a plan for what she wanted.

"Janus, I'm such a fool believing in all your lies," she started to utter. "You tell me I'm the only one who you want to spend the rest of your life with, but why did you choose to leave me?" she continued to mumble.

The people there just stared at her. It was embarrassing, but she still didn't care.

She just wanted to forget the man who ruined her life. The man she thought was the answer to her prayers. Janus was not her first love, but he was the reason for her greatest heartbreak, the person who was killing her heart now.

Why was she foolishly looking for someone who didn't care about her? Why was she going crazy over someone who no longer cared about her life?
