Present Day - Kingdom of Virell, City of Alquess
Gifted people are so fucking annoying. Even in the relatively small city of Alquess, there are a couple of people with Kyora abilities (unique powers that only they have) and all of them at least are Bearers (able to use magic).
They always gather at the same spot in the mornings, for no reason, just to be seen.
The courtyard fills before the bell even rings. Cloaks, polished boots, little flashes of magic for no reason other than showing off. Sparks of fire. Threads of wind. Someone freezing a statue just for the fun of it.
Somehow losers seem to be more pathetic than a homeless guy standing outside the school for hours a day.
I lean against the far wall, half in shadow, where the stone's still cold from the night.
No one stands here. Too out of the way. Too unimportant.
Perfect. They don't look at me.
They never do. It's almost cheating at this point; how easy this is.
I could hear them talk clearly because even their voices are so fucking loud and wanting for attention.
"Did you hear? He's transferring in today." Ho? Now who's this 'he'?
"Yeah, from the capital. Some kind of prodigy"
"Of course he is"
A mixture of laughter and excitement but also curiosity.
I crane my neck just to see them properly.
Ah I see it now. It's subtle, but really obvious if you know what to look for. They're nervous. You can see it just from their scared eyes and quivering lips.
That's interesting.
A prodigy from the capital means one thing. Someone important. Someone strong.
Someone everyone will orbit around like idiots. He'll be used to it too.
All the more predictable.
The bell rings signalling the start of the day. I also stroll out of the courtyard amongst the thousands of students.
Time to get to work.
