Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Summoning a Devil Isn't Free

'Finally time for a class change?'

Looking at the text, a flash of excitement appeared in Ayato's eyes.

In the frustrating browser game from his past life, the real game only began after the class change.

And the Origin Magician he had chosen was known as the strongest class.

Without hesitation, Ayato directly confirmed.

In an instant, the entire virtual panel shone brightly, radiating a dazzling light.

At the same time...

Ayato felt his soul appear in a vast world. Lightning was everywhere, seemingly merging with him.

Before he knew it, time had passed.

When Ayato came to, he felt that his blood vessels, limbs, bones, and even his magic power had undergone earth-shattering changes, as if he had completely become composed of lightning.

The next instant, veins bulged on Ayato's forehead. He felt the cells all over his body continuously tearing apart and then recombining.

For a full ten minutes or more, Ayato was drenched in sweat, breathing heavily.

'So this is the power of the Origin Magician?'

Feeling the changes within himself, Mori Ayato extended a finger. Tiny threads of golden lightning danced upon it, emanating an aura that made even his own heart skip a beat.

No magic circle appeared. It felt as if casting Lightning Magic had become instinctive.

He could sense that even this tiny wisp of lightning could easily annihilate the former version of himself.

He was truly strong now, stronger than ever before.

After acclimating to his new power for a while, Ayato called up the virtual panel.

[Mori Ayato]

[Class: Origin Magician]

[Magic: Origin Lightning Magic LV1 (+)]

[Origin: 182 points]

Lightning Magic had disappeared, replaced by Origin Lightning Magic.

'But I can still cast normal magic.'

Mori Ayato raised his hand. In the light blue magic circle, several bolts of lightning flickered.

However, compared to before, because the nature of his magic power had changed, although the power was inferior to Origin Magic, it was still several times stronger than before.

'Huh?'

Pushing open the library door and stretching, Ayato let out a soft exclamation.

In the depths of his being, he felt a summoning.

'Someone is summoning a Devil?'

'Looks like Koneko passed out my flyers again.'

...

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Heavy knocking echoed through the room.

Kasumigaoka Utaha curled up in her blanket, her teeth chattering.

She looked at the security monitor by the door, but saw no one there.

Yet the knocking continued without pause.

"Could... could it really be a ghost?"

Utaha trembled with fear. She wanted to open the door to check, but simply didn't dare.

Thump!

Thump! Thump!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

As if annoyed by the delay in opening the door, the knocking grew heavier and heavier.

The temperature in the entire room began to drop continuously.

"N-no! This won't do!"

"Whatever is outside will probably break in eventually."

Utaha gritted her teeth. Summoning courage from somewhere, she frantically searched her desk and pulled out a flyer.

The flyer was very ordinary, but it had a precise magic circle drawn on it.

Because of that, and as potential material for her novel, Utaha hadn't thrown it away like garbage.

"Devil or whatever, please, you have to come save me."

Looking at the magic circle, Utaha murmured unconsciously.

Hum!

The moment her words fell, the magic circle on the flyer flashed brightly, emanating a dazzling red light.

Utaha flinched and let go.

The flyer didn't fall to the ground but instead transformed into a magic circle a full yard in diameter.

The next moment...

A figure appeared before her eyes.

"There really... are Devils?"

Utaha stared at the black-haired, red-eyed Ayato, her pupils contracting sharply.

Even though she had summoned him herself, seeing this legendary creature in person was still unbelievable to her.

"As you can see with your own eyes."

As his voice rang out, a pair of wings suddenly unfurled from Ayato's back.

The wings looked like those of a bat, yet exuded a strangely eerie aura.

"..."

Utaha stared blankly at the scene, her worldview being reshaped.

Whoosh!

Ayato retracted his Devil wings and spoke, "Hello, contractor. My name is Mori Ayato. I have come in response to your summon. Please state your wish."

Looking at Utaha, Ayato's eyes flickered slightly.

The moment he saw her appearance, he knew her identity.

'Good grief... Just how many anime had this world merged?'

Hearing Ayato's words, Utaha forced herself to calm down.

Although her worldview hadn't fully finished rebuilding, that didn't matter right now.

She asked cautiously, "Mr. Devil... can you get rid of the ghost outside my door?"

"Of course!"

Ayato agreed immediately.

The thing outside was just a low-level Cursed Spirit, utterly insignificant.

Then...

Ayato quickly stepped forward and pulled open the door.

"You opened the door!"

"You opened the door!"

A Cursed Spirit with a large head, small body, and ten eyes let out an excited roar upon seeing Mori Ayato.

"How ugly."

Ayato frowned.

"What did you say?"

The Cursed Spirit became enraged and was about to open its gaping maw to taste this human's flavor.

A blue bolt of lightning flashed and vanished, completely obliterating it.

"Can't read the room."

Ayato shook his head.

This kind of low-level Cursed Spirit had negligible strength and even a faulty brain.

He wasn't sure which world it had merged from.

Closing the door properly, Ayato turned to look at the somewhat dazed Utaha.

"Now that the problem is solved, shall we discuss payment?"

Utaha's body stiffened. She asked instinctively, "What payment?"

Ayato smiled: "You didn't think you could summon a Devil for free, did you?"

Utaha shrank her neck and asked weakly, "Then what should I give?"

Mori Ayato took out the Queen piece from his Evil Pieces set: "Simple. Become mine."

"Eh?"

Utaha blushed: "You perverted Devil."
