After being frightened, no matter what Andrew said, Scarlett refused to come down and walk by herself.
However, holding Scarlett like this made it difficult for Andrew to walk either. After much persuasion and repeatedly assuring Scarlett that the surroundings were safe, he finally got her to come down briefly, switching to carrying her on his back to continue forward.
