Chapter 18 - The Princess and the Double-Light Bird

Once upon a time, in a kingdom surrounded by misty mountains, there lived a Princess named Elara. She was not like other princesses who loved only silk and jewels. Elara loved to walk in the wild places, and she had a heart that was brave and true.

But one year, a strange misfortune fell upon the land. Shadows grew long and cold, crops withered in the fields, and a thick, grey fog covered the sun. The people whispered that evil spirits were creeping in, bringing sickness and sadness with them.

"We are lost," said the King sadly. "No magic seems strong enough to chase them away."

Princess Elara could not bear to see her people suffer. She remembered the oldest book in the royal library, which spoke of a divine creature called the Chongming Bird.

It was written: "It looks like an ordinary chicken, but its eyes are filled with double pupils, shining with a light twice as bright as any other. Its cry is as majestic as the Phoenix's song. Wherever it flies, demons flee, and disasters vanish like morning dew."

"I will go and find it," declared Elara.

And so, wearing her travelling cloak and carrying only a small bag of provisions, she set off into the unknown lands beyond the mountains.

Her journey was long and difficult. She crossed rushing rivers and climbed steep rocks. At night, strange whispers followed her through the woods, but she walked on with courage.

At last, after many days, she arrived at the Valley of Eternal Light. There, perched upon a high stone altar, she saw it.

It was indeed shaped like a chicken, with strong feathers and a proud stance. But its eyes! Oh, they were the most wonderful thing she had ever seen. Each eye held not one, but two pupils, glowing like two golden suns. They radiated a light so pure and powerful that it seemed to see right into your soul.

This was the Chongming Bird.

Elara did not reach out to grab it. Instead, she bowed low.

"Great Spirit," she said softly, "my home is in darkness. I have come to ask for your help."

The bird turned its head. It did not speak words, but its bright eyes seemed to understand everything. Suddenly, it opened its beak.

K-WOOOOOH!

The sound was not like a chicken's cluck, but deep, resonant, and beautiful, like the ringing of golden bells or the song of a great Phoenix. The sound echoed through the valley, and the ground seemed to shake with power.

"I will go with you," the bird seemed to say, spreading its wings.

Elara smiled, and the bird flew down to rest gently upon her shoulder. Together, they began the journey home.

On the way back, many trials awaited them. A dark fog tried to swallow them, and shadowy figures tried to block the path. But every time the evil came near, the Chongming Bird simply opened its eyes wide.

Flash!

A beam of brilliant, double light shot out from its pupils. Where the light touched, the shadows shrieked and dissolved instantly. The bird's very presence was like a shield of divine protection.

When they finally reached the kingdom, the grey mist was thickest around the castle. The people were hiding indoors, afraid to come out.

The Chongming Bird flew from Elara's shoulder high up into the sky. It circled three times above the city, and then let out its mighty cry again.

K-WOOOOOH!

The sound rolled over the hills like thunder.

Immediately, the black clouds tore open. The evil spirits, unable to bear the sacred light and sound, fled away to the ends of the earth, never to return. The sun shone down warmly, the flowers bloomed instantly, and the air became clean and sweet again.

The disaster was over. Peace had returned.

The King and Queen ran to embrace their daughter, and the people cheered for their brave Princess. But everyone knew that it was the magical bird who had saved them.

From that day on, the Chongming Bird made its home in the highest tower of the palace. It did not stay in a cage, but flew freely about the land.

Whenever trouble threatened, its double eyes would glow, and its Phoenix-like cry would ring out, protecting the kingdom for all time.

And Princess Elara and the wonderful bird became the best of friends, teaching everyone that true power lies not in force, but in purity of heart and light.

And they lived happily, and safely, ever after.
