Chapter 102 -  Gigantamax Pokémon, The True Face of Ancient Pokémon

"What is going on here?!"

"Shinji… even if you lost the Gym battle, you don't need to throw a bomb into my Gym, right?!"

Red quickly directed everyone to retreat while staring at the rapidly expanding psychic spoon.

Shinji was completely dumbfounded.

"I—I don't know either!"

"Gym Leader Red, I just bought that spoon from a roadside stall!"

Red's mouth twitched.

"…You bought this from a roadside stall?"

"You're kidding me, right?"

But looking at the enormous spoon—

and the way it kept expanding while emitting purple psychic energy—

Red felt a strange sense of familiarity.

Like he had seen this before.

But there was no time to dwell on it.

After evacuating most people—

Red turned to Marshtomp.

"Use Water Gun. Let's test it first."

Marshtomp nodded.

A low-powered Water Gun struck the spoon—

but did absolutely nothing.

Red suddenly slapped his forehead.

"Wait—this should count as an item, right?"

"If it's an item, the system should be able to scan it."

He activated the system detection.

A panel appeared:

[Psychic Spoon (Blue)]

A tool created by ancient humans to capture Pokémon. More effective on Psychic-types.

Red blinked.

"…Oh!"

"I get it now."

"This is basically… an ancient Poké Ball!"

The moment he connected the dots—

the sudden enlargement—

the purple energy—

everything clicked.

"I remember now!"

"Isn't this basically Dynamax from the Galar region?!"

And the identity of the spoon—

he also recalled.

It was the item used in the anime to seal an ancient Alakazam.

Back then—

giant Pokémon were explained as "ancient Pokémon."

But Red—

as someone familiar with later generations—

immediately realized the truth.

"So-called ancient Pokémon…"

"…are actually a special form of Dynamax Pokémon?!"

He felt like he had uncovered the truth.

The power of Dynamax originated from Eternatus—

and no one could say Eternatus hadn't appeared in ancient times.

If its power had merged with ancient human technology—

it could explain everything.

"These oversized Pokémon…"

"…are products of ancient tech fused with Dynamax energy."

Red couldn't help but marvel.

"Ancient technology… is truly incredible."

Even the petrification device he got from Hunter J—

which had been drained after dealing with Mewtwo—

proved one thing:

Ancient tech far surpasses modern technology.

"Gym Leader! Can you stop spacing out?!"

"What even is this thing?!"

Behind him—

Xiaowen hid behind a metal pillar, shouting nervously.

Red snapped back to reality.

Sure—

Dynamax and ancient Pokémon were fascinating—

but right now—

this thing was basically a ticking time bomb inside the Gym.

He scratched his head.

"…In simple terms, this should be an ancient special Poké Ball."

"The Pokémon inside is likely an ancient Pokémon."

"Or… you could call it a Dynamax Pokémon."

"Master… shouldn't we retreat first?"

"I feel like staying away is safer…"

Ninetales clung to Red's leg.

At this point—

she genuinely couldn't understand—

why ever since she started following him—

they kept running into one insane situation after another.
