Chapter 3 - How to be a Hero

Lucas hadn't fully grasped everything the system was saying, but he had figured out what he had to do to survive in this new world.

"How do I become a hero?" he asked.

[You have to be the strongest, but first we have to evaluate your potential]

[Status]

[Name: Lucas Saint]

[Legacy: Harem King]

[Rank: Iron Rank]

[Talent: Sex and Seduction ]

[Skills (1/1)]

Passive Effect: You appear more attractive to others than you truly are.

Active Effect: You can weaken a target's mental resistance, making them more susceptible to your influence.

[Stats]

Stamina (lvl 2), Strength (lvl 1), Agility (lvl 1), Durability (lvl 1), Innate Karma (lvl 1)

[Active Karma Points (10)]

[Target 0/1000]

*Reach the target to upgrade rank*

It was the first time Lucas was seeing any of this. He read every line carefully, trying his best to understand what they were referring to.

[You possess a 'Legacy', very few people do. That means you have the potential to be a hero, you just just have to work hard and think smart]

Lucas's face brightened up immediately, his eyes locking on the word.

"What is a legacy?"

[That one is hard to explain, but putting it the simplest term I'll say your 'destiny'. It is a mark given from birth that would force you along a path to greatness or ruin. The most powerful beings in all worlds possess very powerful 'Legacy']

"Sweet!" He yelled out, pumping his fist into the air. "and my talent is sex and Seduction…?"

He continued to read excitedly, "This is freaking great!"

For the first time in his life it felt like he had won something, no not even that, like he finally had a fighting chance.

[It's not so bad, it comes with a special 'charm' skill. Skills that affect the mind are also another very rare thing to acquire so early on. You really are gifted]

Lucas chuckled proudly, "I guess all my hard work finally pays off, I'm going to be the best,"

"So what do I do next?"

[Now you acquire Karma points and grow stronger. There would be rewards for killing monsters and for carrying out special missions. You would have to rely on your wits and your strength.]

"My wits and strength…"

He said the words with a bit of uncertainty.

He had always aimed for the top, but luck was never on his side. He struggled all his life because of his bold choices, and often wondered if he was going the right way, still he trusted his guts and powered through to the end.

A part of him was worried that it might end up exactly the same, but he forced it out of his mind. There was never room for doubt on the road to success

….

Other than 'Legacy' everything else was fairly easy to understand. When it finally came to the skill, he immediately knew how to activate it after reading. He just had to test it out to confirm it.

He could also feel the innate Karma circulating inside his body. Everything felt so new yet so natural.

But now that he had a better understanding of things he felt his excitement slowly faded away. His only skill was 'Charm'. That kind of skill was obviously meant to be used on women so it was useless against monsters.

"How do I defeat monsters and get stronger when this is my only skill?"

It made no sense.

[There are other ways to get Karma Points, one of them is by completing missions handed out to everyone or simply just receiving from others.]

"What kind of missions are they?" Lucas inquired.

[Why don't you see for yourself…]

[Missions]

*Acquire freshly killed meat (+1 Karma Points per pound)

*Acquire Healthy potatoes (+1 Karma Points for 10 pieces)

*Acquire live ammunition and guns (+10 Karma Points for every set)

*Acquire…

The list just kept on going for a little bit more, and it was random items including perfumes and even sanitary pads.

[If you acquire any of these items, you would be rewarded with Karma Points]

"Okay…" he replied absent minded, his voice rising as he asked the real question in his mind.

"Why these items though?"

Most of them were things that could have been bought from a convenience store, so he was curious why acquiring such items would deserve a reward.

[Because these are very valuable in other worlds. Due to the war, some places have been reduced to the extent that these items can barely be found there. Their lands have become barren and their food sources have all run out.

These items that are very common in your world would save lives in a different world]

"So that means the Multi-dimensional gods are the ones providing the reward and the missions?"

[Yes, they do it to help speed up growth and at the same time support the starving worlds. The missions would advance as you increase in rank and so would the rewards]

"So by just—"

Lucas was cut short by a sudden knock on the front door. He didn't move from where he was seated and stared at it blankly.

"You don't have to open it, you are that guy that works at the convenience store right? It's me the guy from the house right below you, Alex"

He went silent and waited for Lucas to confirm his voice, but he just remained quiet.

"Everyone in the building is meeting at my place tonight by 9, we would like to see how we can work together to survive. You don't have to come if you don't want to,"

After delivering his message, Lucas heard his footsteps along with a few others walk to the next door and knock on it.

The mere fact that they were doing this means that they've already started banding together. It's barely been a week and they were already adapting to the situation.

"We're just like cockroaches," he murmured.

Even if it was mostly due to the system's assistance, it was still commendable that they were trying to coordinate themselves.
