It was a key.
"Hah~ Rich people. Their eccentricity is nothing but a disease." Allen mockingly said as he inserted the key and twisted it, unlocking the door.
He was about to open the door and enter when he thought of something.
'I probably should buy that Steel Dagger. It will allow me to react faster if a zombie were to lunge at me the moment I enter, something which will be difficult with the axe. Moreover, I have a 10% discount right now which means it's going to be 90 SP. I will be saving 10 SP if I were to buy it now.' Allen thought, deciding to buy the Steel Dagger.
'I've decided. I will buy it. System.' Allen called out in his head.
[Yes, Host?]
'I wish to buy the Steel Dagger.'
[Alright.] The System said before going silent.
Wheesh
A black-blue light appeared over Allen's right hand before taking on the shape of a dagger. Slowly, the light faded away and what remained behind was a steel dagger with a sharp black blade that resembled a fang.
"Woah, it looks cool." Allen said, holding it with his right hand.
"The grip is quite good as well." He said.
Swish Swish Swish Swish
Allen swung the dagger a few times, trying to get a hang of it.
"Nice. It felt as if I cleaved the wind itself." Allen said, clearly impressed by his first purchase from The Super Market System.
He then turned to the door and opened it slightly. He peeked inside with his eyes and saw that there was no one before fully opening the door and stepping inside.
"Hmm, there really doesn't seem to be anyone." Allen said, looking around the garden that seemed to be well-maintained.
"The garden also seems to be well-maintained with no random wild plants in sight. Weird. All of this would indicate someone to be living here. What do you think, System?"
[From how the Host describes it, it could be the owners have someone clean up the place every week.] The System replied.
"Hmm, what you say also makes sense." Allen nodded.
"It could be that the day of cleaning was yesterday and hence the place looks like this." He said, coming up with an hypothesis.
'However, I can't be sure without checking the inside of the mansion. So, let's get that done with.' He thought, walking towards the mansion.
"Well, there was nothing out of the ordinary and I've confirmed there is no one living inside." Allen said, as he exited the mansion.
The entire place was clean and orderly with nothing that caught his eye other than the large size of the mansion and its various amenities which included a gym, an indoor pool among others.
"But, I did find some good things." A smile blossomed on Allen's face as he looked at his hand.
He was holding what seemed to be a machine gun in his hands.
"It seems the original owner was a gun enthusiast considering the sheer number of them I saw inside." Allen said, recalling the number of guns he saw inside a secret room.
There was even an underground shooting range where Allen tried out a few before settling for this one.
Now, Allen was in no way a professional shooter but for some reason he didn't miss a single target.
'It's because of that.' He thought and as if knowing his thoughts, the system displayed a translucent screen.
[You were gifted the following:
1.Weapons Mastery- Makes you an expert at handling or using any weapons.
Vehicle Mastery- Makes you an expert at driving, controlling or flying any vehicles. Cooking Mastery- Makes you an expert in cooking with any and all ingredients. Combat Mastery- Makes you an expert in combat as physical capabilities are enhanced. Inventory- A space connected to the System with an area of 150,000 sq km. !#$%^&]
These were the 6 rewards he had been given when he awakened the system.
"..."
Allen once again read through the entire list and was honestly shocked at the overpowered abilities he received.
'The inventory has enough space to fit a small country inside…' He was speechless.
'But… What is this No.6? Why is it all blurb?' He thought, confused.
"Hey, System. What is the sixth gift that I received?" He asked, hoping the System would give him an answer.
[You'll know soon.] The System said cryptically.
"Huh? What do you mean by soon? Just what is it?" He asked, awaiting a response.
However, the system remained tight-lipped as it didn't say a word.
"Hmph. Fine, I'll figure it out later myself." Allen said with a snort, clearly annoyed by the System's refusal to explain further.
However, he still had another question he wanted an answer too more than anything else.
"Why…"
"But why give me these gifts in the first place? More importantly, why choose me, someone who does odd jobs to make a living, to be the Host of The Super Market System? Why me of all the billions of people in the world? Why me?" Allen asked, genuinely wanting to know.
[...]
The System stayed silent for a while before answering.
[The gifts were given to increase your chances of survival. As for your second question, I don't have an answer to that.] The System replied, as disappointment filled Allen at not being able to find the answer.
[I wasn't done yet.]
"..."
Hope returned to Allen as he heard the System say that.
[To find the answer as to why you were chosen, you must defeat the zombies, you must win against them. Then and only then, perhaps you will receive the answers you're seeking.] The System said.
"..."
Allen, who heard that, was going through many things in his head. He didn't say anything for a while before a smirk spread across his lips.
"Hah~ so I will find the answers that I want after dealing with the zombies? Then, so be it. I will reclaim the planet back from those corpses and then finally have my answers. I swear upon my name of Allen Cross that I won't rest until I have killed every single last one of these creatures." He said, confidence exuding from him as he did.
