The clearing was no longer a swamp; it was a localized tundra of absolute, unforgiving death.
Dozens of jagged, crystalline spears hovered in the air behind Princess Valeria, perfectly tracking Seraphina's every microscopic movement. The Frost Empress's silver eyes were blown wide, devoid of sanity, radiating a suffocating aura of pure, possessive murder.
Seraphina was entirely out of mana. Her red aura was gone, and her muscles were screaming in agony from the fight with the A-Rank beast. But her Affection rating had just crossed eighty percent. She didn't hesitate. She didn't cower.
She stepped directly in front of Kaiser, raising her mythril broadsword to shield him.
"You are insane, Princess," Seraphina gritted her teeth, her breath misting violently in the freezing air. "He just killed an A-Rank anomaly to save us. If you want to throw a royal tantrum, you'll have to go through me."
Valeria's expression didn't change, but the temperature dropped another five degrees.
"Gladly," the Princess whispered.
With a flick of her elegant, white-gloved wrist, three absolute-zero spears launched forward at supersonic speed, aimed flawlessly at Seraphina's chest, legs, and throat.

Kaiser didn't try to use Abyssal Devour. His core was groaning, overtaxed from swallowing the Mire-Drake's breath attack. Instead, he relied on the +30 Agility and +30 Strength he had just acquired.
He moved in a blur.
He sidestepped Seraphina, stepping directly into the path of the incoming spears. He didn't draw a weapon. He raised his right hand, channeling the very last dregs of his heavy, dense Abyssal mana into his palm to act as a physical shield.
CRASH!
The ice spears slammed into his palm. The impact was like catching a speeding locomotive. Kaiser grunted, his boots sliding back an inch on the frozen mud, but the heavy gravity of the Abyss shattered the absolute-zero ice into thousands of harmless, glittering snowflakes.
The clearing fell deathly silent.
Valeria froze. The remaining spears hovering behind her wavered, their perfect alignment breaking as shock rippled through her SS-Rank core. He had intercepted her attack. He had protected the red-haired nuisance.
"Kaiser!" Seraphina gasped, grabbing his arm.
"Stay behind me," Kaiser ordered her softly, before turning his full, undivided attention to the Frost Empress.
He didn't yell. He didn't summon his weapon. He simply walked forward, his boots crunching steadily against the permafrost, closing the distance between him and the most dangerous woman in the Empire.
"K-Keep away," Valeria stammered, her voice losing its terrifying calm. She took a half-step back, her silver eyes darting wildly between his face and the shattered ice at his feet. "You... you protected her. From me."
"Valeria," Kaiser spoke. His voice wasn't cold; it was incredibly warm, deep, and resonant.
He stopped less than a foot away from her. The remaining ice spears behind her instantly dissolved into mist, unable to maintain their form under the sheer, magnetic weight of his presence.
He reached out. Valeria flinched, expecting retaliation.
Instead, Kaiser gently took her trembling, white-gloved hand in his. He lifted it, pressing his lips softly against her knuckles.
"I protected her because she's my vanguard, and we are in the middle of an exam," Kaiser murmured, his sapphire eyes locking onto hers, letting the faintest flicker of the terrifying, beautiful black void bleed through his disguise just for her. "But more importantly... I intercepted your magic because I couldn't bear the thought of my beautiful Princess getting disqualified and expelled for murdering another student."
Valeria's breath caught in her throat. The violent, homicidal rage that had consumed her mind short-circuited entirely, replaced by a sudden, overwhelming rush of intoxicating validation.
He wasn't rejecting her. He was protecting her from the consequences of her own obsession.
"You..." Valeria whispered, her silver eyes dilating as a heavy, furious blush rushed to her porcelain cheeks. "You are bleeding."
She reached up with her free hand, her fingertips lightly touching his upper lip, coming away with a smear of crimson from when he had overtaxed his core against the Drake. Her expression instantly shifted from lethal jealousy to frantic, desperate concern.
"I told you not to overexert yourself," she breathed, entirely forgetting that Seraphina was standing ten feet away. She stepped completely into his personal space, her hands coming up to cup his face. Her freezing aura vanished, replaced by a desperate need to soothe him. "Who did this? The beast? I will freeze its corpse into dust."
"The beast is dead, Valeria," Kaiser smiled, resting his hands lightly on her waist. "And I'm perfectly fine. I'm just a little tired. But I must admit... the fact that you froze half the swamp just to come find me? It's incredibly flattering."

"I... I merely happened to be in the area," Valeria lied terribly, completely melting into his touch, her icy facade entirely shattered by his smooth, devastating charm.
"Of course," Kaiser chuckled softly.
Behind them, a loud, incredibly awkward clearing of a throat echoed across the ice.
Seraphina was standing near the dead Mire-Drake, her arms crossed, glaring at the two of them with an expression that could curdle milk. She was at eighty percent affection; she wasn't about to let the Princess monopolize him, even if he had just saved her life.
"If the Royal reunion is over," Seraphina called out, her voice dripping with irritation, "we still need to harvest the A-Rank core before the beast's corrosive blood melts it."
Valeria stiffened, her head snapping toward Seraphina. The deadly silver light began to return to her eyes. "You dare interrupt—"
"She's right," Kaiser smoothly interrupted, gently turning Valeria's face back toward his. "Business first, Princess. We have an exam to pass."
Reluctantly, Valeria stepped back, though she kept a firm grip on the sleeve of his uniform jacket. "I will harvest it. Your core is exhausted. Stand here and do not move."
With a flick of her wrist, a blade of condensed, absolute-zero ice formed in her hand. She glided over to the frozen corpse of the Mire-Drake. With horrifying, surgical precision, she cleaved straight through the frozen scales of the beast's chest, reaching in and extracting a massive, pulsing green mana core the size of a melon.
She walked back, completely ignoring Seraphina, and handed the glowing A-Rank core directly to Kaiser.
"Thank you, Your Highness," Kaiser smiled, slipping the massive core into his satchel.
At that moment, the sound of frantic, slipping footsteps echoed through the frozen trees. Julian, the terrified Rank 8 Elite, finally came skidding into the clearing, wrapped in his thermal cloaks and panting heavily.
"P-Princess!" Julian wheezed, falling to his knees on the ice. "Please... you can't just... leave me behind in a frozen swamp..."
Valeria didn't even look at him. She was staring intently at the tear in Kaiser's uniform.
"Julian," Valeria commanded coldly. "You will escort Knight-Candidate Warborn back to the extraction portal. I will be taking Kaiser to the medical wing."
"What?!" Seraphina exploded, marching forward, her golden eyes blazing. "Absolutely not! We are a Duo! The rules state we have to return through the portal together. And I am perfectly capable of escorting him myself!"
"You are covered in mud, exhausted, and lack the mana to properly defend him if we encounter another beast," Valeria countered, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I am SS-Rank. He is safest with me. Do not test my patience again, Warborn."
The two women glared at each other, the air between them practically sparking with a lethal mixture of fire and ice.
Kaiser sighed internally. The Seducing Survival Odyssey: Harem Management Edition.
"Ladies," Kaiser stepped smoothly between them, putting a hand on both of their shoulders. "There's a very simple solution to this. We all walk back together. Julian, you take point. Seraphina, you watch our flanks. Valeria, you stay in the center with me to ensure my... frail condition doesn't worsen."
He flashed them both a brilliant, perfectly balanced smile. "Teamwork makes the dream work, right?"
Neither of them looked happy about sharing, but neither could argue with the logic without appearing unreasonable in front of him.
"Fine," Seraphina muttered, turning her head away to hide her blush as his hand lingered on her shoulder.
"Acceptable," Valeria agreed softly, immediately linking her arm through Kaiser's free arm and pressing herself firmly against his side, casting a victorious, entirely petty smirk at Seraphina.
Seraphina's eye twitched, but she bit her tongue.
The walk back to the deployment portal was the most tense, absurdly awkward journey of Kaiser's life. Valeria clung to his right arm like a possessive limpet, continuously radiating a soothing, cool aura. Seraphina walked on his left, violently hacking away at any stray vines or unfortunate low-tier beasts with far more force than necessary, constantly throwing jealous glances at the Princess.
Julian led the way, whimpering every time he heard a twig snap.

I'm going to need a lot more than ten percent, Kaiser thought, wincing slightly as Valeria tightened her grip on his arm.
Two Days Later. Friday Evening.
The Mid-Term wilderness trial had concluded. The Academy was buzzing with the shocking news: the "parasite" Rank 300 and his sister had not only survived the deep mire, but they had returned with the only A-Rank core in the entire first-year class, shattering the grading curve entirely.
Kaiser, however, had no time to revel in his newfound infamy.
The glowing clock tower in the center of the campus struck 10:00 PM.
Kaiser stood in his dorm room, adjusting the collar of a fresh, crisp white shirt. He wasn't wearing his uniform. He had received a mental ping through his collarbone tether exactly an hour ago.
It is Friday, little void-walker, the Arch-Witch's voice had purred in his mind. My office. Do not keep me waiting.
Kaiser looked at himself in the mirror. He activated his [Aura Cloak], suppressing the violent, expanded power of his core back down to a harmless E-Rank hum.
He was walking into the den of an immortal being whose Affection was strictly tied to her predatory curiosity and terrifying lust for the unknown. Seraphina and Valeria were dangerous, but they were bound by mortal emotions. Principal Morgana Thorne was a completely different game.
"Let's see what the Arch-Witch wants to study today," Kaiser smirked, his sapphire eyes gleaming with anticipation.
He slipped out of the Omega dorms, blending seamlessly into the night shadows, and began the long ascent up the central black spire.
The real test of his survival was about to begin.
