After typing away on the computer for a while, Darren reached his conclusion. "Director, I didn't find any anti-piracy program in the game files."
"So there really isn't one? Is New World Studio really this bold?" The director was somewhat stunned. He didn't doubt Darren's words.
Because Darren was one of the top technical experts in the company. Before joining Valve, he had once been a notorious hacker.
In terms of computer technology, the director had never seen any problem that Darren couldn't handle!
Forget it. If he couldn't figure it out, then he wouldn't think about it anymore. New World Studio being this naive actually made things more convenient for them.
"Alright then, copy the game." The director waved his hand.
"Okay."
Darren began the operation.
Then, as he did so, a dialog box suddenly popped up on the computer screen in front of Darren:
['Kid, I'm very disappointed in you.']
Seeing this message, Darren's heart sank. He had a bad feeling!
But before he could take any effective measures, the screen flashed again.
Then, Darren discovered to his horror that the Subnautica game files were gone?!
Darren's face turned green instantly!
"D-Director..." he stammered.
"What is it?" The director looked up.
"The game files have disappeared."
"What?!"
The director panicked as well. He rushed to the computer, grabbed the mouse, and clicked around frantically.
They were really gone!
"WTF! What the hell is going on?" The director turned his head and glared angrily at Darren.
"There must have been a Trojan hidden in the game files. The moment we tried to operate on the files, it automatically deleted everything!" Darren said with a miserable expression.
"A Trojan? Didn't you say the game didn't have anything like that hidden inside?" The director exploded at Darren.
"This isn't my fault!" Darren immediately defended himself.
"It was hidden way too well. It must have gone through multiple layers of disguise. I've never seen this kind of camouflage before, so I didn't detect it."
"You didn't detect it? You think saying you didn't detect it lets you avoid responsibility?" The director's face turned red with anger. "You useless piece of trash!"
"Give me one more chance. Let me see if I can recover the game!" Darren said in a panic as he quickly sat back down in front of the computer and got to work.
After another round of furious typing, Darren was now completely on the verge of tears. "I'm sorry, Director. My skills aren't good enough. I can't recover it."
"What about the cloud drive? Check if the files are still in the cloud drive!" The director shouted again.
Darren checked once more. "No good. The files in the cloud drive are gone too!"
The director nearly fainted from anger. The people beside him quickly held him up.
Just great. They had finally gotten their hands on the game, but before even a few minutes had passed, the game had completely vanished!
They hadn't even started playing it properly yet!
How infuriating!!!
"I didn't expect this. Microsoft's methods are getting more and more sophisticated!!" After calming down for a while, the director sighed again.
"Microsoft? This doesn't seem related to Microsoft, does it?" One employee said weakly.
"You believe that?" The director sneered.
"Being able to develop a game with this level of graphics quality, and even adding such a well-hidden Trojan program into it. If it's not Microsoft, I'll cut off my own head and let you use it as a toilet!"
Hearing the director make such a heavy vow, that employee immediately shut up.
For a moment, the entire atmosphere in the room became incredibly heavy.
After a long while, John's weak voice finally sounded out.
"Um... Director, even though the game is gone, the bonus should still be paid, right?"
At this moment, it wasn't just Valve. Other major internet companies were also eyeing Subnautica.
Unfortunately for them, none of their employees had made it into the top fifty. However, they had all thought of the same solution: buy it!
Take Benjamin for example. He was still in the middle of downloading the game when his phone suddenly received a call from NetEase.
The person in charge from NetEase hoped that Benjamin could make an extra copy of Subnautica for them. Of course, they wouldn't ask for it for free. They would pay.
Benjamin directly refused this request and quickly hung up the phone.
And that wasn't the end of it. After NetEase, calls from Tencent, Zhu Long, Hami Games, and many others came one after another.
Their goal was the same: they wanted a copy of Subnautica.
Benjamin rejected every single one!
Just as he had said, after playing Silent Hill, he had truly become a die-hard fan of New World Studio.
The big shot from New World Studio had specifically told him not to spread it. If he still went and did it anyway, would he even be human anymore!
He absolutely would not do anything that harmed New World Studio!
