Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Another One-on-One Save! As Long as I'm Here, the Goal Will Not Fall!

"Unbelievable!"

"How did he do that!"

On the touchline, head coach Burke Abel celebrated as if his side had just scored.

Leon Feng's save from that one-on-one was worth every bit as much as a goal.

"Bloody hell! He actually saved it?"

"How did he manage that? He was already down on the ground!"

Every home supporter in the stands was stunned into silence.

The Copa del Rey match was being broadcast, but Sarria Stadium was a modest ground with no big screen for replays.

So the home supporters had no way of working out what had just happened.

'So this is what "One-on-One Dive" does.'

Leon pressed the ball firmly beneath him and then stood up with it in his arms.

After Leon had gone down, there was no way under normal circumstances that he could have done anything to interfere with Mari Dongou's attempt on goal.

But the "One-on-One Dive" ability had caused Leon to explode in that instant with a burst of physical output far beyond his current limits.

His body lurched forward again out of nowhere, and he scooped up the ball just as Mari Dongou was about to push it on.

One-on-One Dive!

The fully maxed-out "One-on-One" stat the system had awarded at half-time had played its part as well.

It had given Leon an uncannily accurate read on the direction Mari Dongou would push the ball.

"Over here!"

Hachim Mastour's voice reached Leon's ears.

Leon collected himself, glanced back at Mari Dongou to make sure he would not try to steal the ball, but Mari Dongou was still standing there in a daze, beside himself with frustration.

Leon rolled the ball out by hand to Hachim Mastour.

Hachim Mastour took it and began driving forward to build the attack.

At this point, Leon's "Long Kick" ability was still extremely weak, sitting at just 5.

If he had tried to hoof the ball long into the final third, there was every chance it would have gone straight out for a throw-in.

Hachim Mastour's run back to receive at that moment was perfectly timed.

'Not bad. Good read of the situation.'

'Dropping back to receive right then was exactly the right call.'

'And he seems to have a real understanding with that goalkeeper from the East.'

Up in the stands, Watson still could not figure out how Leon had managed to make the save.

He would have to watch the replay over and over after the match to find out the truth.

His attention, as always, remained entirely fixed on Hachim Mastour.

Barcelona B's one-on-one chance had brought Leoia's momentum to an abrupt halt, and their defensive line dropped back considerably.

Barcelona B made no rash attempt to push forward either. Sitting on their lead, they controlled the tempo of the match without any sense of urgency.

"This won't do."

With the clock ticking past seventy minutes and Leoia still unable to break Barcelona B down, Burke Abel could see that pulling the formation back had killed any threat they posed going forward.

"We have to gamble."

Head coach Burke Abel made up his mind.

Attack.

Attack without restraint.

Push everyone forward.

Burke Abel made two substitutions in quick succession, bringing on two forwards and withdrawing a midfielder and a defender.

At this point, losing by one or losing by ten made no difference whatsoever.

Under the manager's instructions, Leoia committed to a true all-out attack, with every player except Leon pushing past the halfway line.

As for defending, that was Leon's problem alone.

In the 78th minute, Hachim Mastour's strike slid just past the post.

In the 84th minute, Leoia's relentless pressure finally paid off.

Forward Yure Baso got his head to the ball in the chaos following a corner and powered it into the Barcelona B net.

After the goal, Leoia attacked with even greater ferocity.

And then Barcelona B won another one-on-one opportunity.

It was Mari Dongou again.

As Barcelona B's spearhead, Mari Dongou was always the first to lead the charge.

"It's over! It's finished!"

"Leon! Do you dare save this one too? If you do, I'll call you a man!"

"You have to save it! If you save it, the team still has a chance to level!"

Mari Dongou bore down on the penalty area once more.

This time, he was visibly more focused.

Watching Leon charge out quickly, Mari Dongou did not bother with any fancy tricks to go around the goalkeeper.

Instead, he struck a curling ball with the outside of his boot.

The quality of the strike was exceptional.

The moment Mari Dongou's foot made contact, Leon went entirely on instinct and dived to his right.

"Bloody hell!"

"That's insane!"

"Is this real? Am I dreaming?"

The home stands erupted.

Watson shot to his feet, his face etched with disbelief.

The Leoia home supporters watched in stunned disbelief as Leon took off in a full-stretch dive and plucked the ball clean out of the air.

When Mari Dongou had just curled that exceptional strike from the stands, they had already given up in their hearts.

But now, Leon Feng stood in front of his goal with the ball in his hands, telling them that as long as he was there, the goal would not fall.

A sharp intake of breath swept through the stands.

"Unbelievable!"

"Absolutely unbelievable!"

Defender Xio, who had only just scrambled back into position, shoved Leon in excitement and ruffled his hair vigorously.

At 31 years old, Xio had never witnessed a goalkeeping performance this extraordinary.

If the team had not still been trailing, Xio would have hoisted Leon onto his back and carried him around the pitch.

"Captain! We've still got a chance!"

Leon did not let the emotion get the better of him. He simply clenched his fist tightly.

"That's right. We've still got a chance."

"Leon! Keep it up!"

"We can level this!"

Xio, the captain, looked at Leon with a trace of surprise.

Leon had always been the quietest presence at the club.

This seemed to be the first time Xio had ever heard Leon speak to him without being spoken to first.

Even so, those two one-on-one saves Leon had produced in the second half alone were enough for Xio to have complete respect for him.

The bond between teammates on the pitch could sometimes be that simple.
