Chapter 82 - The City of Eternal Night

They walked through the door into a city that shouldn't exist.

It was beautiful. Terribly beautiful. Buildings of crystal and shadow rose toward a sky that had no stars only darkness, endless and absolute. Streets of silver wound between gardens filled with flowers that glowed with their own light. Fountains flowed with water that shimmered like liquid moonlight.

And everywhere, people.

Not prisoners. Not slaves. Citizens. They walked the streets with peaceful expressions, their eyes serene, their movements unhurried. They didn't talk to each other they didn't need to. They were connected, somehow, their thoughts and emotions flowing through the city like water through a river.

"What is this place?" Taro whispered.

"The Fallen Kingdom," Ren said. "Amaranth's dream made real. A world without conflict because there are no individuals. Just... parts of a whole."

"It's beautiful," Kira admitted.

"It's horrifying," Inyocha countered. "Look at their eyes. They're not at peace. They're empty."

Lee approached one of the citizens a young man with kind eyes and a gentle smile.

"Hello," Lee said. "What's your name?"

The young man tilted his head. "I don't have a name. I don't need one. I am part of the whole."

"What were you before? Before you came here?"

The young man's smile flickered. "I... I don't remember. I think I was sad. I think I was alone. But I'm not alone anymore. I'm part of something greater."

"Are you happy?"

The young man considered the question for a long moment.

"I don't know," he said finally. "I don't think I feel happiness anymore. Or sadness. Or anything. I just... am."

Lee felt his heart break. "That's not living. That's just existing."

"Perhaps." The young man smiled again that empty, serene smile. "But at least I'm not suffering."

He walked away, disappearing into the silver streets.

Lee turned to his team. "We have to destroy this place."

"How?" Kira asked. "We can't kill an idea."

"Then we replace the idea. We show these people that there's another way. That suffering is worth the risk. That freedom is worth the pain."

Inyocha nodded slowly. "The Pilgrim said something before he died. He said that Amaranth isn't just the Sleeper it's the manifestation of humanity's fear of being alone. If we can show the people in this city that they don't need to be afraid... maybe the city will fall on its own."

"It's worth a try," Ren said.

They walked deeper into the Fallen Kingdom, searching for the heart of Amaranth's power.

And somewhere in the shadows, the Sleeper watched.

And smiled.
