Chapter 20 - /////

The next few days felt… empty.

Not completely.

But something was missing.

Jimin didn't text.

Didn't call.

Didn't wait after class.

And for the first time—

you noticed how much space he actually filled in your life.

Taehyung was still there.

Same classes.

Same project.

Same calm presence.

But even that felt… different.

He didn't come closer.

Didn't push.

Didn't ask.

Just stayed where he was.

Giving you exactly what he said—

space.

And somehow—

that made everything louder in your head.

You sat alone in the café.

The same one.

The same table.

But this time—

no one was across from you.

You stirred your drink absentmindedly.

Memories came back.

Jimin laughing.

Teasing.

Talking non-stop.

Then—

Taehyung.

Calm.

Observing.

Understanding without asking.

Two different feelings.

Both real.

But not the same.

Your phone buzzed.

You looked down.

A message.

Not from either of them.

Jungkook:"Hey. It's been a while. Are you okay?"

You stared at the screen.

For a moment—

everything paused.

Past.

Present.

Everything.

You opened the chat.

Scrolled up.

Old messages.

Old memories.

A different version of you.

A different kind of love.

Soft.

Familiar.

Safe.

But…

You exhaled.

Something felt distant.

Not gone.

But not the same either.

You typed slowly.

"I'm okay."

Then paused.

Then added—

"I think I've changed."

You stared at that message for a second.

Then—

sent it.

And with that—

something inside you settled.

Not completely.

But enough.

That evening—

you walked back to campus.

You didn't rush.

Didn't overthink.

Just… walked.

And then—

you saw him.

Jimin.

Sitting alone on the steps.

Your heart skipped.

You stopped.

For a second—

you thought of walking away.

But you didn't.

You walked toward him.

"…Hey."

He looked up.

Surprised.

"Hey."

Silence.

You sat beside him.

Not too close.

Not too far.

"I didn't know if you wanted to talk," you said.

"I didn't know what to say," he replied.

That was honest.

You looked ahead.

"I miss this," you said quietly.

He didn't reply immediately.

"…Me too."

That hurt.

But also—

felt right.

"I figured something out," you said.

He looked at you.

"…What?"

You took a breath.

"When I'm with you… I feel light."

His expression shifted slightly.

"And I don't want to lose that."

Silence.

"But…" you continued.

That one word—

changed everything.

"When I'm with him… it's different."

Jimin looked away.

"…Of course it is."

"It's not better," you said quickly.

He looked back at you.

"…Then what is it?"

You struggled for words.

"It's… heavier. But not in a bad way."

Silence.

"He understands things I don't even say."

That truth—

hung in the air.

Jimin nodded slowly.

"…Yeah. That sounds like him."

No anger.

No sarcasm.

Just… acceptance starting to form.

"I don't think I still love Jungkook," you said softly.

That part—

finally clear.

Jimin didn't react much.

Because that wasn't the real issue anymore.

"I tried to hold everything together," you admitted.

"But I can't."

Your voice dropped.

"And it's not fair to you."

Silence.

He looked at you.

Really looked.

"…So what are you saying?"

Your heart started racing.

Because now—

this was it.

The moment.

"I think…" you paused.

Then finally—

"I've already leaned somewhere."

His breath stilled.

"…Where?" he asked quietly.

You looked at him.

And for a second—

everything in you hurt.

Because no matter what you said—

you would lose something.

Before you could answer—

a voice behind you—

"Y/N."

You turned.

Taehyung.

Standing there.

You hadn't noticed him.

Did he hear?

Did he not?

You couldn't tell.

Now—

both of them were there.

Again.

Like always.

But this time—

👉 you couldn't stay in between anymore.
