Chapter 2 - 2 Awakening of Power

The creature's roar echoed through the ruined streets below like rolling thunder, shaking the shattered windows of Aetherion District-9.

Kael's heart pounded against his ribs, each beat in sync with the pulsing energy still coursing through his veins. His body felt alive in a way he had never experienced charged, raw, and terrifyingly unstable.

He crouched low on the rooftop, eyes locked on the monstrous figure that was now circling the street like a predator studying prey.

Its jagged form glowed faintly with a deep crimson light, veins like molten magma running across its body. Kael realized that this wasn't just an animal it was something far beyond natural. Something born of the change that had rippled through the world just hours ago.

This is the new reality… Kael thought grimly. And I have no choice but to adapt.

"Alright… let's test this." He closed his eyes and focused on the flow of the energy he had felt moments ago. It wasn't like breathing or movement.

It was a vibration deep in the bones, a pulse that hummed through the air and into him. He had no name for it yet "Heaven and Earth Origin Energy," the system called it but that didn't matter. He just needed to control it.

Kael extended his hand, feeling the invisible current twist around his fingers. The energy wasn't passive; it was reactive. As soon as he reached for it, it surged toward him like liquid metal, filling his arms and chest with warmth and strength.

He opened his eyes and glanced at the creature below. Its glowing eyes tracked his movement. It was intelligent, not mindless. And it recognized him as a threat.

I have to move… faster.

The creature leapt again, this time aiming directly for the rooftop where Kael stood. Its claw smashed into the concrete beneath him, shattering the surface with a thunderous crack. Dust and debris shot into the air, forcing Kael to stumble back.

"Not enough…" he muttered under his breath.

The energy in his body flared as if responding to his frustration. It twisted through him like fire, filling his muscles, bending the air around him, giving him clarity.

He felt it shift, forming patterns in his mind pathways, directions, possibilities. The system had called this "cultivation," but to Kael, it was instinct now.

He jumped forward, twisting his body midair to dodge the creature's second swipe. The energy surged outward, his momentum increased, and for the first time, Kael realized he was moving faster than normal human reaction.

The creature's claw slammed into the building next to him, cracking the structure. Dust rained down. Kael landed, rolling to stabilize himself. He looked down at his hands, astonished at how steady they were, how precise.

I'm… fighting.

Below, the streets had become a battlefield. Fires flickered along shattered roadways. Smoke and dust mixed with the faint golden glow of the energy Kael still couldn't fully comprehend. People had fled, but some remained, frozen in terror or injured by the chaos. He had no time to think about them now survival was all that mattered.

Kael inhaled sharply, centering himself. His pulse synced with the rhythm of the energy. He could feel the creature's movement now, the slight shifts in air, the vibration of its muscle as it prepared to strike. He raised his hand.

Focus… trust the flow… trust the energy…

As the creature lunged again, Kael released a concentrated wave from his palm. The energy moved almost as if alive, wrapping around the claw, throwing it off balance, and sending a shockwave through the air. The creature stumbled mid-leap, crashing into a broken lamppost.

Kael exhaled sharply, feeling the energy in his chest stabilize.

"…I can control this."

The system's interface flickered into view again, transparent and hovering in front of him:

[Host has successfully utilized Heaven and Earth Origin Energy.]

[Experience gained: 1,220 units.]

[Cultivation Stage: Initiate Realm – 2nd Layer.]

Kael stared at the floating text. Units. Layers. He didn't fully understand it yet, but he felt it every increase was tangible. His body had already improved, his senses sharper, his reflexes heightened.

He turned his gaze back to the creature. It was struggling to regain balance, its glowing veins pulsing erratically. Kael's lips curled into a grim smile.

"Looks like we're just getting started," he said under his breath.

Suddenly, movement from the shadows of a nearby street caught his attention. Figures human, armed, and clearly not ordinary civilians were approaching. They moved in coordinated patterns, weapons aimed, scanning the area with a trained precision.

Kael's brow furrowed. "Who… are they?"

Before he could react, one of the figures shouted, voice amplified with a strange device:

"Stay back! That thing isn't human don't engage directly!"

Kael hesitated. He wanted to warn them, but there was no time. The creature, sensing new movement, pivoted sharply and launched toward the newcomers.

The humans fired, energy blasts striking the creature, but it barely flinched. Kael realized something crucial these weren't ordinary humans either. They wielded energy similar to his, though weaker and unrefined.

He had stumbled into a warzone he didn't yet understand.

Kael's instincts screamed. He could either flee and hide, or fight and if he fought, he could push his limits further.

The creature attacked again. Kael leapt into the street, positioning himself between the newcomers and the monster.

"Back off!" he shouted. "I've got this!"

The humans paused, confusion evident. The creature snarled, claws raised. Kael's body was ready.

He inhaled sharply. Energy surged through him, faster, stronger, and purer than before. He closed his eyes briefly, letting the flow settle into rhythm.

This is more than just survival… this is awakening.

He extended both hands. The energy coalesced, forming sharp arcs of light that danced like living serpents around his arms. His eyes glowed faintly as the energy answered him completely.

The creature charged. Kael didn't flinch.

He unleashed the energy.

A blinding explosion of golden light erupted, the force so powerful it threw debris in every direction. The creature screamed a deep, resonant sound that shook the very ground and was thrown back, skidding across the street.

Kael's knees buckled from the recoil, sweat and blood mixing on his face. When he opened his eyes, the creature struggled to rise. But now… it was wary. Careful. Respectful.

Kael realized something chilling.

This wasn't a random attack. The creature wasn't weak it had tested him.

And now, it had learned his strength.

The humans approached cautiously, weapons still ready. One stepped forward, bowing slightly.

"Who… who are you?" he asked. His voice was cautious, almost reverent.

Kael wiped blood from his mouth and shook his head. "Kael… Kael Adam. And you should leave. It's not safe here."

The human frowned. "You… control energy? You're not like the others…"

Kael's gaze drifted to the horizon, where the city's destruction stretched endlessly. He knew this was only the beginning.

If one creature like that exists… how many more are out there?

A strange thrill ran through him not fear, but anticipation. The system's interface flickered again.

[Host has survived first combat. Initial adaptation confirmed.]

[Recommended: Continue cultivation to increase survival probability.]

Kael took a deep breath, letting the energy calm him. His hands still pulsed with the golden light of the power now awakening within him.

He clenched his fists.

"This… is just the beginning," he whispered. "I'm going to get stronger. I have to. Or nothing will survive."

And somewhere high above the ruins of Aetherion, the faint flicker in the sky pulsed again. Something had observed him. Something ancient, patient, and waiting.

Kael didn't know it yet but his awakening had drawn attention.

And the world was about to take notice.
