Chapter 9 - Chapter: 8 The Full Moon

Night had already settled over the city, but the tall glass tower of Zhen Group still glowed with lights. Most of the employees had gone home, leaving only a few people finishing their work.

Mei Lin sat at her desk outside the CEO's office, typing quietly on her laptop.

She glanced at the clock on the wall.

9:45 PM.

She sighed softly.

"Why does he work this late every day…" she murmured.

Inside the office, Liang Zhen was still reviewing documents. The room was silent except for the sound of pages turning.

Suddenly he stopped.

His hand tightened around the paper.

Something felt wrong.

A strange heat spread through his body, making his breathing heavier.

He stood up slowly.

Not today.

It was too early.

But the feeling kept growing stronger.

He walked toward the window and looked outside. The night sky was clear, and the moon hung bright and full above the city.

The full moon.

Liang Zhen closed his eyes briefly.

"Damn it…"

Outside, Mei Lin finished her last report and stretched her arms slightly.

She looked toward the office door.

Maybe she should leave now.

She stood up and gently knocked on the door.

"President Liang?"

No response.

She pushed the door open slightly.

"President Liang, I finished the—"

Her words stopped.

Liang Zhen was standing near the window, his back facing her. His posture was tense, almost rigid.

"President Liang…?"

He didn't turn around.

"Leave," he said quietly.

His voice sounded different.

Lower.

Rougher.

Mei Lin frowned.

"Are you alright?"

"I said leave."

But instead of leaving, she stepped inside.

"Do you need help? You don't look well."

Suddenly Liang Zhen turned around.

For a moment, Mei Lin froze.

His eyes looked… different.

Darker.

Almost glowing under the dim office lights.

He stared at her as if struggling to control something inside himself.

"Why are you still here?" he asked.

His voice sounded strained.

Mei Lin took a small step back.

"I was just worried…"

The tension in the room grew heavier.

Liang Zhen ran a hand through his hair, breathing harder now.

"You shouldn't be here tonight."

"Why?"

He didn't answer.

Instead he suddenly walked past her toward the door.

"Go home."

Before she could say anything else, he left the office.

Mei Lin stood there, confused.

Something about his behavior felt strange.

Very strange.

A few minutes later she packed her bag and finally left the building.

Outside, the night air was cool.

The street was almost empty as Mei Lin walked toward the bus stop.

But as she reached the corner of the street, she heard a sound.

A low, painful groan.

She stopped walking.

The sound came from a small alley nearby.

At first she thought it might be a stray animal.

But something made her curious.

She slowly stepped closer.

The alley was dark, lit only by the pale moonlight above.

Then she saw him.

Liang Zhen.

He was leaning against the wall, his head lowered as if fighting something.

"President Liang?"

He looked up instantly.

"Mei Lin?!"

His expression changed immediately.

"What are you doing here?"

"I heard a sound," she said nervously.

"Are you hurt?"

"Go home."

His voice was sharper this time.

But Mei Lin noticed something that made her heart skip.

His eyes.

Under the moonlight, they briefly flashed with a faint golden glow.

She blinked.

Did she imagine that?

"Your eyes…" she whispered.

Liang Zhen froze.

For a moment neither of them moved.

Then the wind shifted, carrying the scent of the night air.

And something else.

Liang Zhen's instincts suddenly reacted.

His wolf stirred inside him.

The scent coming from Mei Lin felt strangely familiar.

Dangerously familiar.

He stepped back quickly.

"You shouldn't be here."

Mei Lin felt a strange tension in the air.

"What's going on with you?"

"Nothing."

But his voice sounded anything but calm.

Suddenly another low growl escaped his throat before he could stop it.

Mei Lin's eyes widened.

"Did you just—"

"Enough."

His voice cut through the air sharply.

For a second, the golden glow returned to his eyes.

Mei Lin's heart started beating faster.

Something was very wrong.

She took another step back.

"I think… I should go."

"Yes."

Liang Zhen didn't stop her this time.

She quickly turned and walked away, her mind filled with confusion.

As she disappeared down the street, Liang Zhen remained standing in the alley.

His breathing slowly returned to normal.

The golden glow faded from his eyes.

But his thoughts were still restless.

Why had her scent affected him like that?

Why did it feel so familiar?

Far away, Mei Lin was still walking home.

But one thought kept repeating in her mind.

His eyes were glowing.

And for the first time since joining Zhen Group, she began to wonder.

Who exactly was Liang Zhen?
