Chapter 5 - "ERROR THAT SHOULDN’T EXIST”

The system wasn't supposed to hesitate.

But it did.

---

Tony stared at the floating screen in front of him.

The red text glitched.

Flickered.

Then broke.

---

[ERROR: ENTITY DOES NOT EXIST]

[ERROR: TARGET CLASSIFICATION FAILED]

[WARNING: SYSTEM INCONSISTENCY DETECTED]

---

"…What?" Tony whispered.

Behind him, Emily took a step back.

"Why is the system… failing?"

Chris's eyes sharpened instantly. "That's not normal. Systems don't fail—they override."

John shook his head. "Yeah, no. I don't like that. I really don't like that."

Bruce, however—

Smiled.

"Good."

---

The thing in front of them didn't move.

It stood in the middle of the broken street.

Still.

Silent.

Watching.

---

At first glance, it looked human.

Same height.

Same shape.

Same presence.

---

But something was… off.

Not wrong.

Not twisted.

Not monstrous.

---

Just…

Missing.

---

Tony tried to focus on it again.

His system reacted immediately—

---

[SCAN FAILED]

[ENTITY NOT REGISTERED IN SYSTEM DATABASE]

---

That had never happened before.

Not once.

---

"…It doesn't exist," Tony said quietly.

Chris nodded slowly. "Or worse."

Emily swallowed. "What's worse than not existing?"

Chris didn't answer.

---

The thing tilted its head slightly.

Like it was listening.

---

Then—

It spoke.

---

"…You can see me."

---

Everyone froze.

---

John immediately pointed. "Nope. That's it. I'm done. I'm officially done."

Emily whispered, "It's talking…"

Bruce stepped forward.

"Then talk back."

---

Tony didn't move.

His instincts were screaming.

Louder than ever before.

---

This wasn't like the guardian.

This wasn't like the reflections.

This wasn't even like the void trial.

---

This was something else entirely.

---

"You're not supposed to be here," the entity continued.

Its voice wasn't loud.

But it felt… close.

Too close.

Like it wasn't coming from outside.

---

Like it was speaking directly inside their heads.

---

Chris reacted instantly. "Don't listen too closely. It's not using sound."

John panicked. "What does that even mean?!"

---

Tony stepped forward.

Slowly.

Carefully.

---

"No," he said. "You're the one who shouldn't be here."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

The entity smiled.

---

Not wide.

Not creepy.

Just… knowing.

---

"…Interesting."

---

The world shifted.

---

The ground beneath them cracked.

Not physically—

Visually.

Like reality itself was glitching.

---

Buildings flickered.

The sky distorted.

The air twisted.

---

Emily grabbed Tony's arm. "What's happening?!"

Chris's voice dropped. "It's not attacking us."

Bruce's grin widened. "It's changing the field."

---

The entity took one step forward.

---

And everything broke.

---

The city disappeared.

---

Replaced by something else.

---

A void.

But not empty.

---

Fragments of scenes floated around them.

Broken memories.

Distorted places.

Pieces of something unfinished.

---

Tony's breath slowed.

"…This again."

---

But no.

It wasn't the same.

---

This wasn't his mind.

---

This felt like—

Everyone's.

---

John looked around in panic. "Why does that look like my school?!"

Emily froze. "That… that's my house…"

Chris's expression darkened. "It's pulling from all of us."

---

The entity raised its hand.

---

The fragments moved.

Shifted.

Merged.

---

Then—

They formed something.

---

Figures.

---

Multiple.

---

Standing around them.

---

Familiar.

---

Too familiar.

---

Tony's heart dropped.

---

"Not again…" he muttered.

---

But this time—

They weren't reflections.

---

They weren't copies.

---

They were…

Incomplete.

---

Faces blurred.

Bodies unstable.

Voices overlapping.

---

"…help…"

"…why did you leave…"

"…you failed…"

"…too late…"

---

Emily covered her ears. "Stop—stop it!"

John stumbled back. "This is worse—this is way worse—"

Chris gritted his teeth. "It's not just memories. It's distortions."

---

Tony stared at the entity.

"You're using us."

---

It tilted its head again.

---

"Of course."

---

The figures moved.

---

Slow at first.

Then faster.

---

Reaching.

Grabbing.

Pulling.

---

Bruce stepped forward instantly.

"Enough."

---

He punched one.

---

His fist passed through it.

---

But the figure didn't disappear.

---

Instead—

It grabbed his arm.

---

And pulled.

---

Hard.

---

Bruce's expression changed.

Just slightly.

---

"…That's new."

---

Chris shouted, "Don't let them touch you!"

---

Too late.

---

More figures rushed forward.

---

Chaos exploded.

---

Emily tried to push them away—

But they kept coming.

---

John panicked, swinging wildly.

"WHY ARE THERE SO MANY?!"

---

Tony moved.

---

Fast.

Precise.

---

He dodged one—

Then another—

---

But something felt wrong.

---

They weren't attacking randomly.

---

They were targeting.

---

Specific.

---

Intentional.

---

Chris realized it too.

"They're not going for damage—!"

---

"—They're going for control!" Tony finished.

---

The moment he said it—

Everything clicked.

---

Tony stopped moving.

---

Completely.

---

"Tony?!" Emily shouted.

"What are you doing?!"

---

He didn't answer.

---

Because now—

He understood.

---

"They're not real," Tony said.

---

The figures paused.

---

Just for a second.

---

Chris saw it.

"Say that again."

---

Tony stepped forward.

Calm.

Focused.

---

"You're not real."

---

The entity watched him.

Silently.

---

Tony pointed at the figures.

"You're fragments. Broken data. Nothing more."

---

The void trembled.

---

The figures flickered.

---

Unstable.

---

John blinked. "Wait… that's working?!"

---

Emily whispered, "He's rejecting them…"

---

Chris's eyes sharpened. "Not rejecting—overriding."

---

Tony took another step.

---

His presence changed.

---

Subtle.

But clear.

---

Authority.

---

"You exist because we allow it," Tony said.

---

The entity's smile faded slightly.

---

"And I don't."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

Everything broke.

---

The figures shattered.

---

Fragments dissolving into nothing.

---

The void collapsed.

---

The world reformed.

---

Back to the broken city.

---

The entity stood where it was.

Unmoved.

---

But now—

It was different.

---

Its form flickered.

---

For the first time—

Unstable.

---

"…You're learning," it said quietly.

---

Tony didn't relax.

---

"No," he replied.

"I'm remembering."

---

The entity's eyes sharpened.

---

Then—

It attacked.

---

No warning.

---

No buildup.

---

Just—

Gone.

---

And suddenly—

Right in front of Tony.

---

Too fast.

---

Too close.

---

Tony reacted instantly.

---

He didn't think.

---

Didn't hesitate.

---

He moved.

---

Perfect timing.

---

Their clash shook the air.

---

For the first time—

They touched.

---

And Tony felt it.

---

Cold.

Empty.

---

Like hitting something that wasn't fully there.

---

The entity pulled back.

---

"…Interesting," it repeated.

---

Bruce stepped in next.

Then Chris.

---

This time—

They fought.

---

Not chaos.

---

Not panic.

---

But control.

---

Clean.

Sharp.

---

The entity adapted instantly.

---

Every move countered.

Every attack predicted.

---

Chris gritted his teeth. "It's faster than us—!"

---

Tony stepped forward again.

---

"No," he said.

---

His eyes sharpened.

---

"It's ahead of us."

---

The difference mattered.

---

Because if it was ahead—

---

It could be caught.

---

Tony moved again.

---

Faster.

---

Different.

---

Not following patterns.

---

Not reacting.

---

Leading.

---

The entity hesitated.

---

Just for a second.

---

That was enough.

---

Tony struck.

---

Direct.

---

Clean.

---

The entity staggered.

---

For the first time—

It reacted.

---

"…Impossible."

---

Tony didn't stop.

---

"Nothing here is impossible."

---

The system exploded.

---

[Hidden Condition Met]

[Authority Sync Increased: 12% → 21%]

---

Power surged.

---

Not wild.

---

Controlled.

---

Tony stepped forward one last time.

---

And spoke.

---

"Disappear."

---

The word hit.

---

Not like sound.

---

Like a command.

---

The entity froze.

---

Its body cracked.

---

Flickered.

---

Then—

Shattered.

---

Gone.

---

Silence.

---

Complete.

---

No movement.

No distortion.

No presence.

---

Just…

Stillness.

---

John dropped to the ground. "I… hate… this place…"

---

Emily exhaled slowly. "That wasn't a normal fight…"

---

Chris looked at Tony.

Carefully.

---

"You didn't defeat it."

---

Tony nodded.

---

"I know."

---

Bruce smirked.

---

"Then what was that?"

---

Tony looked at where the entity had stood.

---

"…A test."

---

The system activated again.

---

[Trial Complete]

[New Phase Unlocked]

---

The ground trembled.

---

The city cracked.

---

And beneath it—

---

Something opened.

---

A path.

---

Leading down.

---

Deeper.

---

Darker.

---

Older.

---

John groaned. "Why is it always down…"

---

Emily whispered, "Because that's where everything is leading…"

---

Chris looked at Tony.

---

"This is different now."

---

Tony nodded.

---

"Yeah."

---

Then stepped forward.

---

"Let's go."

---

But as they moved—

---

Tony felt it again.

---

That presence.

---

Not behind.

---

Not above.

---

---

Below.

---

Waiting.

---

Watching.

---

And then—

---

For the first time—

---

It spoke.

---

Not to his mind.

---

Not as a whisper.

---

But as something real.

---

Ancient.

---

Cold.

---

Final.

---

"You've finally reached the layer… where even the system cannot protect you."

---

Tony's steps slowed.

---

His eyes narrowed.

---

Because for the first time—

---

His system didn't react.

---

No warning.

---

No message.

---

Nothing.

---

Only silence.

---

And one question echoed in his mind—

---

If the system couldn't protect him anymore…

---

Then what exactly had he been relying on this whole time?
